oh, in that case do what we did - remove ceiling fan and install a ceiling light that sits somewhat flush with the ceiling. Our light also has a timer function so that it will come on and go off when programed so we don't have to be home to put birdy's to bed all the time. Birds don't like drafts anyways so the ceiling fan is pretty useless in their room anyway.

I'm assuming you're referring to a fan in the workout room. I would get the carpet blower type fan that directs the air onto you. In our living areas we have converted to the monster slow-moving ceiling fans to avoid any injuries.

Alex, my rescued 18 years old African Grey
SRSeedBurners replied to samansad's topic in Rescue Bird Haven
For some reason I thought you lived in the middle east. I'm getting my forum members confused! Since you live in TN, you might contact Project Perry and see if they have any advice. They usually take in birds permanently but I don't think yours has reached that point. Your bird just needs someone with some serious CAG know-how and TIME. Also, I wouldn't put the bird out on the deck unsupervised during the day while you're at work. Something will eventually figure out how to prey on him. -

Actually, if you're on Facebook, go to Project Perry's page and listen to some of their videos. Your bird is making wild African Grey noises. Perfectly normal for them. I wish you were stateside, I would direct you to them in placing him. -
What is it about putting these Greys to bed? My Caique and Jardines go to be willingly. Our Caique actually will ask me in his own little way that he wants to go. However when it comes to putting GreycieMae to bed, it's a battle. It used to be worse. First she'll fly off my shoulder where she's been perched for as many hours as I've been home when it's getting close. Then when I try to go get her, I have to chase her through the living room kitchen. Then when I get her, if she manages to get back on my shoulder she hangs off my back where it's impossible to reach her. I have to use a wall to get her to the point where I can reach her. Then when I'm bending over to put her in after giving her lots of snuggles and kisses, she will try and get inside my shirt. It's cute and all but after three years I started to get irritated with it. She seems to have settled a bit with it in the last few months though. It doesn't take as long as it used to.

I don't think I've ever seen a Grey retrieve like that. He's a real cutie.

OMG....these guys are just too funny. So cute!

Did I hear some beat-boxing there? Watching all these talking Greys makes me jealous. I'm going to have to go home and discuss this with GreycieMae. Timbersmom, Greycie absolutely hates it when I'm on my cell phone when she's on my shoulder. She will give me a few warnings to get off of it and then if I don't heed, she will attack it and bite the crap out of my fingers. Respect the birdy!!!

I guess most birds are cinnamon junkies. All three of mine love it too. Never thought about sprinkling on veggies. Up next - cinnamon veggies!!!

This sounds like something that would be right at the top of GreycieMae's ordering menu. What is flax-seed bread? Is it made from flax seed or just have flax seed on the crust?

....and more vidoes/pictures of Isaac...dagblast-it

This sounds like something everybirdy needs!

Issues with vet wrap over time
SRSeedBurners replied to reptoman's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
That's common for vet wrap. You might try tennis racket tape. The stuff they wrap around the handles. Bow hunters use that on their bows specifically because it does not get tacky and leave residue. -
One of my co-workers has an Echo and I told him about this. He said that was ironic because just "last night" he and his wife were talking about if Sterling could train one of his birds to use the Echo what would they be doing with it. Now they know I guess.

I didn't realize you had a conure. That changes things considerably. Are they in the same room during the day when you're gone (caged of course). I always thought Isaac was completely alone which always bothers me. Another bird in the same room to yack it up with all day makes a big difference. Our three make it sound like a rain forest in their room for the first few hours until they pass out around 1-2pm. Then they fire it up again around 3pm. They all seem to rip through their toys at the same time too.
-
In your situation, where it's just you and Isaac, I'm totally for it. If there was a way to find out if they like each other and can form a birdy friendship, I truly believe it will be in Isaac's best interest. Maybe you can birdy-sit the Grey for a few days and see what happens? Going from one to two Greys I don't think is too much of a leap. We noticed a big jump when we went to three. And I'm not sure how I'm going to handle a fourth when my Aunt decides to return my Grey from 25 years ago.

Yeah, we thought we had the problem taken care of too when we caught the first one....then the second one....then we got more and they kept digging holes in other places of the foundation. That's when I went scorched earth policy on the bastards. The dead one that stunk the place up for 6 months straight to the point we could never have visitors is when I decided I would eventually burn the house down if it came to that.

Oh boy. Story time: We had foundation work. They left huge cavities under our house and guess what moved in. I tried trapping, filling holes, laying down wire, nothing worked. Finally one died under the center of the house and we could smell it for over 6 months. That's when I got serious. What worked for us was mothballs OR I had cut up our dogs blankets and was putting that in the holes. The skunks moved out and came back a year or so later. I did both again immediately and they left again. I'm not sure which one worked but it was either the mothballs or the predator (my dogs) smell in the blankets. My dogs kept getting sprayed too during this time. On two occasions I saw where my dogs scored a kill but they weren't scoring fast enough to stop the chaos under the house. This was before I had parrots.

Get some vet wrap and wrap it so he has better grip. Greycie sleeps on her play swing and I'm amazed she can sleep there all night. They're in another room so I'm not sure if she's ever fallen off. I have come in the next morning and she's on her food dish a couple of times. Probably what happened.

You might get in contact with the folks at 'Parrot problem solving 101'. They are most active on their facebook site but they also have a website if you don't use facebook. Oneta M. Carter is the one you will need to speak with and tell her of your situation.

I would say that one is a little on the small side for a Grey. I've also found those seed gaurds to be absolutely useless and they just take up real estate. I think one of the real popular cages you see a lot has an interior dimension of 30x30. That's the cage we have but my Grey is out most of the time.
-
Hi Jara! You have an extremely cute baby there. Do you have plans for a bigger cage? That one is alright for baby as you don't want them falling etc but when she's bigger, she'll need lots of play room.

Here's the hard link: Now if word gets out that tough birdy Rio has a baby blankie, don't be surprised if a lil green thug shows up on your doorstep
-
It is Rio's baby blanket. He has to snuggle in it with mama holding him in the evenings.
