  1. That looks like a Pervue Hendryx rope ladder. My safe bird store sells those and probably used by lots of birds. I'm leaning towards safe. There are bird safe glues.
  2. Good thing she has reading material. That's a lot of almonds in one sitting. Such a happy looking birdy.
  3. When I first contemplated getting another Grey, we were worried about the possibility that the Grey I got would eventually chose someone and be a one-person bird. I of course wanted that someone to be me. I mean that's all you read about Greys. My first Grey was not a one-person bird, but that was before Grey's invented the internets and put forth that silly little rumor about Greys. Now a days, my Grey, Miss GreycieMae, spends most of her free time, the time not spent being the Sterling-Ranch aviary warden, sitting on Daddy's shoulder and working on Daddy's bike, Daddy's computer, Daddy's whatever he's doing. I have two 'other' girls in my house, wife, daughter. I have noticed increasingly that as they walk by and I'm sitting in my chair, my Grey gets softly snatched off my shoulder and carried to wherever the girl see's fit to take my Grey. This post was prompted by just such an occasion. I'm sitting here at my computer watching a video on how to solder a sensor battery back into a power control unit before I head back into the garage, and all of a sudden, my Grey is missing. Snatched and taken away, now singing happily in the shower with Mommy, and tossing hangers from the shower curtain rod. I do believe I have a well adjusted Grey.
  4. She looks so cute "on the road again..."!
  5. Got nailed less than 6 days ago from this post, on my upper lip and it started a minor infection that that I could feel through one of my teeth and in my left eye. I consider getting nailed to always be my fault since I assume the risk of letting her near my face.
  6. I hope Dorian caught whomever did that mess.
  7. I expect to see pictures of her being spoiled completely rotten on her special day!
  8. I love conures. A conure was my first bird. There's something so cute and ornery about them.
  9. Our Jardines hates shoes. He will get on the floor and go after anyone's shoes. There's just something about shoes that really pisses him off. On the other talon, he's totally in love with mommy's feet.
  10. Maybe she's a bird whisperer. I took GraycieMae to a race venue once and people were wanting to hold her etc. She was a little snappy and bitey with everyone except this one lady whom she'd never met before. The lady showed absolutely no fear and told Greycie to step-up like she knew what she was doing. She could practically do anything I could do with her. I think they can sense fear and use it to their advantage.
  11. Same here - 1st link. Although I really really like the first one that comes up in the fourth link. That's the one I'd go for. My problem is getting the out the birdroom door and down the hallway to take them outside and wash them. I have to take doors off hinges and that's a pain in the butt.
  12. 2nd link posted. That's a ferret or chinchilla cage.
  13. Definitely not the 4th one listed. Birds like Caiques will utilize the lower level but a naturally paranoid Grey will confine themselves to the tall narrow section. I don't like the ferret cage either. So that leaves the other two options
  14. Echo the sentiment about loving these birds. I regularly hear comments "he loves his bird more than me" from the wife when she's talking on the phone. Well, she loves her birds too so... It feels closest to the love for a child to me, only they're more appreciative.
  15. There is. You can never replace what was lost but the memory will always be with you. These are pictures of our little girl we lost we lost to PPD over the course of 7 months. It was a long and painful journey for us to watch her slowly deteriorate. She's not a Grey but she was super special to us. It's been three years and I can't believe that seeing her picture still makes me tear up. She's buried in a special place behind our bedroom window with a bird of paradise planted over her. We got another Jardines to fill the hole she left. He's nothing like her although they share some Jardine specific traits. We love him but we still miss her and always will.
  16. We use a cheapazz 'cobra' misters from HD. Stuffed it in front of that drum fan and seriously cools off. GreycieMae was scared of the whole dealio last season and would sit in the far 'hot' no-shade corner of the aviary. This year she sits on the hanging perch that sits directly in front of the mist and air and gets the added benefit of a slow free push to go round and round. I really want to put a line of misters along the support and hang my drum fan so it blow all the way across the lenght of the aviary but I need someone to come do some projects so I can get to that one. By the way, i google imaged searched 'mister'. I did not need to see half naked dudes wearing sashes. I will now be suing google for PTSD. However I have a co-worker who said I have to get in line behind his lawsuit over 'Dicks sporting goods'.
  17. Cutie. My favorite stage is when those cute little tail feathers start to pop out.
  18. Our Grey learned to do an ear-piercing shrill that drove everyone in the house bonkers. We tried every damn thing and probably made it worse till we learned to just wear ear plugs and completely ignore the behavior. She finally quit after six months. It may be a long haul.
  19. Is it because they are older birds? Mine are outside in 101 the last couple days and doing just fine. Shade tree, mister and blower and it makes me want to hang out in there. The mister is what makes the huge difference.
  20. Its apparent you're attempting to poison poor Maalik.
  21. The great thing about encouragement and the words from our Greys is you know they are genuine. I don't think Greys know, or for that matter care to know, how to fake it like so many humans. We have three pak-o-birds. I ordered two small size for our Caique and our Jardine and went ahead with the medium 'African Grey' version for GreycieMae. It is huge and cumbersome to take anywhere. I've taken to throwing Greycie into one of the smalls for short rides and she's a big 'ol heifer at nearly 490 grams. She fits in the small just fine. The one thing I don't like about the pak-o-birds is they can still destroy them no matter what Celltei will tell you. Even with the stainless mesh upgrade, GreycieMae figure out how to chew a hole in it. She literally destroyed the inside of hers in just a few short stays in it. So she's back to sitting in a metal cage while the other two get the pak-o-birds. If HRH Inara isn't a big chewer she'll be fine in one. I'd still suggest the stainless mesh upgrade though.
  22. Throw that tanning bed on craigslist. There's always someone that wants what you have to sell. Can't wait to see pics of the paint job.
