I went back and found his baby pic. He's grown into a strapping young man
-
I can't believe my little baby grey is 10 years old today. We always joke that GreycieMae replaced my daughter, because I got Greycie when I was having a real hard time with empty-nest syndrome before my daughter was about to fledge. I've become so attached to my Grey that I can't imagine life without her. It used to drive my wife nuts the bond I have with my Grey but then Huey came into our lives and now he's head-over-talons for her and they have as strong a bond or more. Huey gets a little obsessive-compulsive over my wife 😁. Some pics of the birthday girl: Greycie the baby. Pics from the care sheet that was delivered with the bundle of feathers. She was originally named 'Mystery': The day she came home, look at those adorable grey baby eyes A copy of the flyer I wall-papered the town with when my idiot sister-in-law left three doors open in our house and let Greycie fly out. I think Greycie was only a year or two old at this point. One of the worst days of my life. I had the strangest dream the night after her first day missing. I dreamed very lucid that she was sitting on a pipe fence somewhere calling to me from the light at the end of a dark tunnel, very similar to what people who return from near-death describe. It disturbed me to no end and I don't know if I could have lived it down if we didn't finally locate her at the end of day 2. We finally found her in the dark sitting in a tree alongside a bicycle path that I regularly took her on. She heard our voices and started calling to us just like I had dreamt. It was at the end of a very long second-day of searching for her. I get goose-bumps just re-living the ordeal in my head writing about it. And some pics from this morning. Not sure she was ready for the smothering she got. She's like my wife, hard to roost out of bed. P.S. she sleeps on a ladder right next to my side of the bed. Every single night she coo's to me in the dark. She is the absolute sweetest thing ever. She regularly sits with me in my office as I work. She wouldn't have it any other way. Huey in the background on his 'office' perch. Greycie just getting up. Sometimes I swear you can see the bags under her eyes 😆 Before her got her makeup on and her hair did. 🤣

Huey started his career in the destructionings... err... constructionings business as a young apprentice. Over his long and storied 20+ year career of tearing stuffs up... errr...building elaborate structures, he has risen to owning and operating his very own Constructionings business. Current projects include building a nestbox for mommy to lay an egg in so he can sit on it. She never seems interested so the project continues indefinitely under her bathroom sink. Huey's latest projects include enclosing his exposed covered patio so he has something similar to the last home before he made a change of address. He also has his workerbee (me) working hard to get his outdoor aviary up - no easy task. It's been two long years since Huey has had an outdoor aviary but Huey is starting the project, and let's hope it's not a year from now when I finally post about it being finished. Hueys new patio using 1" industrial-grade store front glass - BEFORE: After: You can clearly see in this video that Huey must approve all building artifacts. Without Huey's vast knowledge of contructionings, there's no telling what would get built if anything at all. 20221002_160953.mp4

I attempted to do that same training with Greycie, chopstick and clicker too. The one that really stuck was the spin. She now spins whenever I have something she wants. And she'll keep doing it until she gets it. Training gone awry.

ahhh....Happy Hatchday!

I'm sure they are just amazed at how stupid and inept we can be. That combined with their complete lack of patience 🤣

Mine will get bits of chocolate on occasion. I don't really want to find out the hard way if excess chocolate is really bad for them so I don't risk it. I however don't believe all the bs spouted out there by the FB karens that look for anything to reprimand. E.g. My GreycieMae has been giving me wet sloppy birdy kisses for 9 years now without issue. Another no no no no blah blah blah.....

Huey loves a good video to dance to and this one is currently at the top of his charts: GreyDanceVideo.mp4

whoops....12-1400 is what I meant to write! She's worth every penny of 14K though....what are you try'na say hrmmmm?
-
Wow. Greycie is going to be 10 on Halloween (can't believe it) and I think I paid 12-14K for her. I used to worry about her being in our outdoor aviary in Allen but now that I'm out here in the boonies it's more about the critters around and not the more dangerous two-footed menace. Greycie has a 24/7 guard though

Have you ever seen 'Cairo the Grey' on youtube? If not, you really need to go check out some of his videos. He has several where he tells off the cat. Warning though, he has a foul mouth as he was homed in a drug house before coming to the lady he currently resides with. One of the best talking Greys I've seen video of. Kasey has learned quickly that Greys are the most selfish of masters 🤣

Love the floppy ear. I've given up on Huey changing. He's a momma's boy and I'm his man-servant. Attacks me on a daily basis but uses me all the time. He's an ahole but I still love him.

Huey came to us with a foot chewing disorder. He was on Haliperidol 2x/day - 24/7. I instantly wanted him off of that stuff. It went well for a while but I found that something will trigger him and he's back to losing his mind and butchering his feet. His vet is in Dallas, over two hours from my current location. His craycray birdy med is well expired so I had to book an appt and get down there yesterday. I walked in the door and the front desk lady checked us in, then put us in a waiting room. The Vet tech comes in and "OMG IT IS HUEY!!!!". She was over the moon to see Huey. She told me they saw Huey's name on the docket that morning but didn't recognize the owner name so they figured it wasn't THE Huey. She asked about how I came to have Huey, and we went over his footy issue which she was well aware of. Alone again, we're waiting and then DR TATE enters. Dr. Tate's eyes light up and you can tell these two know each other. I told her the same, how I got Huey, still in touch with Huey's previous daddy, send him pics and vids regularly and occasional visits. Dr. Tate then told me the history of Huey. Mike brought him to her with a severe foot chewing issue most like initiated from being abused by his first owner (Huey hates men, so there is something behind that). Mike & Dr. Tate went through all kinds of medications to try and find one that worked. She also said he used to have 'hamburger feet'. She would regularly wrap his feet so that he couldn't tear them up. I'm getting the picture Mike spent a fortune on Huey's mental condition. Dr. Tate told me that Huey has never looked better. I told her that Huey is a very demanding birdy and things have to be almost 100% his way or you're in for a fight. I explained how Huey has relayed to us that he will sleep on the shower door, not in a cage. Check. Huey needs pellets at night, not the yuck healthy birdy food that he eats all day. He must have a drink before bed time. I also told her how I started flying him and that makes a huge difference in calming his butt down. He also now gets regular sun. She said his feather used to be really bad too but that's all gone now. I think that was due to the diet change. Last thing I told her he rarely has to have his craycray birdy meds. Usually just twice a year he will lose his head, normally around the time allergens are hitting the air and then we can get it under control in a week or three and we're good. I had no idea I was taking a local celebirdy into the clinic. It made me happy to see that Huey has been so loved by so many. He's a very lucky birdy. Huey and Dr. Tate - thrilled to see Huey doing so well.

GreycieMae is around 480. She watches her 'figger' by eating salad (and anything else she gets her beak on).
-
Those timnehs are super cute. I've never seen one in real life.

Could possibly have something to do with the spring rut (assuming you live in the northern hemisphere). Our Huey is a different bird right now although I haven't noticed a smell difference. I can't get my nose close enough to him if I want to keep my face arranged in it's current state.
-
Spring time? Huey just started his ritual of biting his feet and acting like a crazed bat.

Foreman Alfie inspects progress in the living room

He has that 'what the hecks' look. 🤣 -
So cute when they sleep like that. Hard working tired Alfie.

Wow, dredging up old dead threads. I don't even really recall writing the replies I left here!

I get to hear how I talk to my wife. Huey talks to her the exact same way I do including the stern "BELLE!" that I use. He also grumbles with her name mixed in. She's always telling me "you see how you talk to me?"

We are hoping to find a bird sitter for our CAG, Corey

Dorian - you ungrateful sod you. 🤣 -
Sukei sounds like our Huey. Loves Mommy, hates me: Mommy: And here's the super-annoyed look I get whenever I go near the Huey.
