  1. I'll bet he was pretty clumsy! Huey crash-landed into everything for a couple months before he got his muscles and skills built up. He can now turn around in the hallway like GreycieMae. He's not as talented as her but he gets around.
  2. Great pictures. Love seeing the progress, and so fast too. He knows he bought a winning ticket.
  3. I have around 40 pigeons, high-flyer and homing, plus around 60 chickens. Have no idea what a bird mite is. Maybe one of those mythical bs fake news critters. with my pigeons, canker is the problem. my chickens, coccidiossis (sp?). no mites whatsoever.
  4. We're convinced our Huey worked in a call center prior to coming to live here. He has the most business sounding polite "Hello?" I've ever heard. And he only does it when the phone rings.
  5. That's one way to get a pet. I'll have to try it myself 🤣
  6. I'd give a couple or three weeks on the nail trim.
  7. Looks like you have a nice setup for him. I would say he's asking to slow things down a little with his new situation. They always settle down, it just may take a while. It took our Huey about 6 months to come out of his shell.
  8. May have to try this. I have a few bags of old pellets that have been in the freezer for a while waiting to become a nice birdy bread.
  9. GreycieMae wants to know if you ship?
  10. That's a great photo. Looks like he's digging in! What did the bowl look like after? ❤️❤️❤️
  11. Not sure what set off the "I'm outta here post" but I'd still like to know what your vet prescribed as I am looking for alternatives to Haliperidol. I looked back a few messages to see if I could find what triggered you. Not sure. If you think you'll find a more welcoming group elsewhere have at it. This is a very well-meaning tame forum. You'll be leaving them all if you can't handle this one with 0-5% of the traffic of the others.
  12. Well, he's out of that shithole. Let's rehab and see what happens. If you lived here I'd probably entertain the idea. That's funny you say you're up to 11. In my pea-brain I think I'm still at three, but when I count beaks, I count 8. How the hell does this happen? 🤣
  13. Seeing as how you are in the U.K., you can easily get the chain fly screens over there. They work wonders to stop a bird from flying through an open door. This is what we used on the back door where I lost Tinkerbell twice. Once I put the chain screen up, she won't fly through the door. In case you're wondering, she flew through the door trying to find me. Once I was in the back yard cleaning cages with the door open and she managed to pull her bird room door open and flew out of the house looking for me. Fortunately I was about 50 feet outside and she flew right to me. The second time I was going through the door and had no idea she was in the living room. She landed on me as I was exiting the door.
  14. I usually buy toys to get the parts, like the one you see in the pic. Then it's simply cutting wood blocks or whatever to refill. Since my Greybie is a wood block chipper, I refill with wood. I have another one that loves to chip cardboard. As you can imagine, she's easy to make toys for out of a plain old cardboard box.
  15. Wow. If I rescued that bird, he'd be here permanently. He deserves the best. I hate that they end up in conditions like this. I can't wait to see the 'after' pictures a few months down the road. Get lots of pics to compare. Birdy hit the jackpot.
  16. Would like to know what the vet prescribed. Our Huey is on Haliperidol. I've tried multiple times to wean him off it but 2-3 days after the last dose, he starts to butcher his feet.
  17. Mandatory: a nice stainless bell (bird safe type). Maybe some stainless hanging spoons. My GreycieMae's favorite toy is one I use a miter saw to refill all the time. She can destroy it in a day. It's made from wood blocks and straws on a stainless skewer rod. I don't have many toys in their cages as my birds are rarely caged but here's a shot of the toy I make for her and the little nibblets she leaves behind 🤣:
  18. Sounds like this was meant to be. Yay for the rat for getting things done! 🤣 Rats are actually pretty clean lil varmits. I have rats all over in my chicken and pigeon loft and my pigeons never contract anything from them. Canker is all I deal with and that's a common pigeon disease that they don't get from anything else. You know pictures are mandatory now! I can't wait to hear how this story ends, sweet I hope. Is Isaac's Dad still in the picture?
  19. Looks like you have approval there.
  20. Their personality will take months to come out. We thought we knew our Huey but he keeps surprising us with things his old owner told us he did and is just now starting to do for us over 6 months later.
  21. Well, I'd love to see a video of that sleep talking business
  22. Are you going to finish raising the baby or is the breeder going to finish it out? That pic is an awful young one! Cute.
  23. Well, check the other thread, the timing couldn't be more perfect: Possible rescue situation
  24. Wow, I hope your son is able to get hold of the poor thing.
  25. Welcome back Elvenking! I am 100% for you getting another Grey. Search through my threads and read about our Huey. He was brought to us on Dec 1 to stay here for 7 days. His owner decided that his bird was a hell of a lot better off with another bird of his own kind after watching how he interacts with our GreycieMae. So Huey's Daddy asked if we wouldn't mind keeping Huey. His Daddy still comes over every couple of weeks to visit Huey but absolutely does not want to take him back home to lock him up in a cage to be by himself all day. I thought it would add more strain to bring in another Grey but it actually made things easier because I can now put GreycieMae in the aviary/birdroom etc with a buddy. They get along pretty well even though they have their little stabby fights every now and then. Since Huey is another Grey, he has no problems handling Greycie. We have to keep her separate from our other birds which are all smaller as she can hurt and kill them. However with Huey, he has no problems putting her in her place. He's BOSS birdy! GreycieMae on the left. Sir Huey on the right.
