the cherry head that sits in the window in the towns physio office ....she thinks he would be happier here than in a window, she is probably correct
-
So wait ti; he stops to acknowldge or feed him? How long to wait for after he does stop?
-
if he is anything like Echo, he will have me whipped into his slave by the end of the week lol he is doing again now, but much much quieter, I just put them to bed so he is probably protesting it as he hates bedtime and the first time he did it today, I had left the room to get dinner....so am now convinced he is telling me I need to return to him immediately lol

he is in fact a babe, he will be 5 months old next week. he is still on 2 feeds a day but he started eating up everything in sight yesterday so I think it probably won't be long now til he refuses. I typically fill him up for the night about 7-8pm and then he gets a morning feed when the kids go off to school about 8:30, he really has no interest in eating when the kids (I do daycare) are all her, he seems to much enjoy watching them and getting loved on by the oldest ones and my own daughter....so he was hungry you think? I gave him some applesauce mixed in with cut apples, broccoli, carrots and snap peas about 30 mins before he started this noise and since he ate it all it never occurred to me that he could have been asking for more. I feel awful if thats the case. poor wee guy was trying to tell me something and I couldn't figure out what it was......is this a noise that goes away with age? if he is genuinely hungry I will feed him obviously but if its a noise that they continue to use for other things ....I wish there was a site that I could go to and listen to all teh baby sounds so I can commit them to memory and learn so this never happens again. Echo just hollers for what he wants and if you bring him the wrong thing he will tell "no want ____" ...its usually an apple he is after much of the time though lol.

it kinda sounded like beeping but more in a honky type way, he kinda sounded like a pissed off goose. He started it when I went into the kitchen to make dinner. At any rate he IS fine and seems none worse for wear, I just worry that I may have missed something really important. I called the handfeeder and asked her, but since she is deaf, she has no clue what it means b/c she has never heard it before and playing it over the phone b/c the teletype phone can't mimic it. If anyone knows what it is please tell me what and how to stop it, serioulsy after 15 mins it was really nerve grating, but wouldn't have been if I understood squeeks, beeps and honk language lol. I tried to google "baby african grey sounds" but no sound file came up.

what is this noise? why is he doing it and what does it mean? I have heard him do it before but never for as long as he did this time...anyone know and can tell me? It gets really annoying after 15 mins or so especially when I don't know what it means.... http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y298/beaniebabysmommy/?action=view¤t=whatisthisnoise001.mp4

Storm is 325G at 1 week shy of 5 months. Is that a good weight? Last evening he started eating everything in sight...he ate pretty good before that but he seems to be packing it away. Last Tuesday when I brought him home he weighed 316G so he is gaining well. After holding Storm than Echo, it feels like Echo must be starving to death he just seems so light and little and he is little but I never realize just how little he was, he packs a lot of attitude in his 124G lol.

These are the boys...see how handsome they are...I am so excited that the 2 parrots get along, of course this is probably a honey moon phase and next week at this time they will be killing each other lol. Echo has done an entire personality change, he obliges his steps ups with me and anyone who asks (he is a momma's boy and usually hates everyone but me, this is a welcome change) So here is Echo, trying to get the last drop of my orange juice. This is storm and his favorite foot toy the day he came home last week, he is such a handsome boy My daughter with our hairless Chinese crested boy. And the last one is Echo checking out Storm's and deciding whether or not he likes that toy, sadly Echo doesn't play much, I offer tons of toys but he much prefers food and paper shredding. And that's our crew. My family is complete, though my 10 year old iss already asking for another parrot, she wants a conure.

Echo is a quaker, Storm is a TAG. Just so you know what species I am referring to since this post includes both of my boys. When I brought Storm home I realized that the BIG cage I had for him was much to big so I ordered a new one for him. It arrived Thursday. I liked it so much and since Echo needed a new one I ordered his and it came on Friday. I was rather shocked and surprised when Echo started moving in before it was even fully built, For cage territorial Echo this was a big deal. However, he insists on sharing Storms cage, as soon as I open cages in the morning he is gone and can be found on Storms cage. Both are the same with loads of toys but different ones, he doesn't seem interested in anything Storm has, he just wants to be with Storm. I gave up replacing him on his own cage because he just goes back to Storm. At night I lock them in, in their own cages because I feel they each need their own bed. Is this ok for them to share through the day and be in their own at night? Echo who has always been quite a snobby Quaker has really taken to Storm and vice versa however Storm was raised with Quakers so I can understand him liking Echo. Storm still has those sweet black baby eyes, and I wonder how long or about what age will he get his "adult" eyes his hatch date is July 3rd of this year. he doesn't much like crunchy food and much prefers his pellets soaked with water and other softer foods...I worry about this causing diarreah b/c he is taking in so much more water then he would be if he ate the pellets dry, should I stop soaking them or leave him alone? As well he is still on 2 hand feeds a day so he is getting a lot of water. I also worry about the dye in the coloured pellets as I have heard that they can be very hard on the kidneys, is this true? Once he is eating on his own 100% should I try to switch him or is the dye thing a non issue? One final q....how do I post pics, if I upload them to photobucket do I want the IMG code or the HTML code?

clipping his wings won't help him get the bird in the cage but is she is clipped she isn't going to fly the way he is describing. No I hadn't noticed that most don't clip..is there a reason not to? I have kids in and out all day long and I would be devastated if he flew out an open door. Now he can still fly sort of, he pretty much just glides to the ground and I pick him up and replace him back on his cage top.

Wow I admit I am not understanding what you are asking other than you want to trap your female grey, but the above response was uncalled for, not everyone speaks english. I think you are saying that your hen refuses to go into her cage at night time or any time you are wanting her to and she keeps flying away, thus you want to make a trap for her?? If this is correct than my answer is this: you do not trap her, she will not take kindly to that and it will only cause fear. I would suggest clipping her wings so she can't fly away. I am hoping that your cage size is a mistype as it seems awfully small for even 1 grey let alone 2. I may have totally misunderstood your post though.

he is 4.5 months old. He did finally settle down and I didn't hear anything from him until after I was awake this morning when he tipped his food dish over lol.
-
lol wait til you see the holes he has on each side of his head, those are ears and there is no reason to call the vet in a panic like I did many years ago with my first parrot LOL< pretty sure the vet thought I should be committed ...and yes that bald patch is normal...called the vet about that as well years ago thinking he was pulling out feathers,,,DUH impossible for him to reach that part but i my state of panic I didn't think about that part lol.
-
LOL he's so funny, he is making a beeping sound and when he gets tired of that he taps on the cage door with his beak. He just does not want to go to bed. But I am up at 5am and cannot keep him up til midnight like his handfeeder did.....how long til he adjusts to a new bedtime?

So we brought our TAG home today. We are so in love with him, but Echo our quaker I think is wishing we would send the new stranger back to the egg he came from. We had intended to call him Skip, but after meeting him, he just doesn't look like a Skip, after throwing names out there we finally came up with "Stormy Grey Sky" but we are calling him Storm for short. He has been home about 3.5 hrs now and has been and out of his cage, checked out his new toys, had a power nap and a handfeed. He isn't shy at all but everytime I go to him he kinda like honks, so I fed him, he is now sitting on top of his cage preening himself. He was less than impressed with being stuck in a carrier for the 2hr ride home, and tried without success to get himself out. So far I can see his stubborn streak but OMG he is so sweet. he kissses so gently and even when he bit me it wasn't hard harder the Echo obviously but in all the years I have owned birds, it isn't a question of "IF they bite you" its more of WHEN they bite you and let's face it, they all will bite at least once and usually more lol. My 9 yr old is excited, finally she has a bird that will step up to her and let her touch him, Echo used to but hasn't for quite a while, he is very much a mamma's bird and I don't expect that will change. I am hoping that Storm will be this tolerable for life but I expect he will go through stages. So our first few hrs have been great and it's love.

Hi, Tommorow I am picking up my new baby TAG, Skip. He is about 4.5 months old and not quite weaned but I will be taking over the feeds. No problem as I have done this before, just not with a grey. Currently we have a quaker parrot Echo, a hairless chinese crested dog. I am not new to grey's as we did have a CAG before but he was a breeder bird whose mate had died and he just didn't adjust to being my pet, ate holes in my drywall etc etc so we rehomed him to a breeding family and he has done very well. They sent me pic of his new bride and clutch and offered me one of the baby's but it just wasn't the right time to be bringing in a new baby. 4 years later and now IS the right time. So I looked everywhere to find a TAG but man they are hard to find in Canada and I had pretty much given up any hope, until a woman called me one night with the most amazing news. Tomorrow he comes home!! My 9 year old and I are super excited and not sure how we will make it through today. It's crawling by at a snails pace. However, I am a bit worried about how Echo will feel, he has always been my baby since we adopted him at 2 months old. He has always been the only bird. I am sure he will go through a stage where he is totally jealous and may throw a tantrum or 2. How is the best way to make sure he knows he will ALWAYS have a place in my heart, he will always be my #1 bird, and that I can love 2 of them just as easily as one. Any ideas?? Echo is an awesome bird, knows about 100 words and some of his colours and can count to 6, he is super smart and most of the time will answer a question with an appropriate answer. I am really excited to hear the 2 chattering to each other from across the room and hope that one day will tolerate supervised playtime together. Skippy isn't talking yet and to be honest I don't really care if he never does, I love grey's talking or not. What do I do with him the first few days? I typically have never locked up my parrots unless I am not home or am in bed, I open the door in the morning and they have always been free to come and go as they please, will this be ok to do with skip or should I leave him locked up for a few days?
