  1. Storm is a busy body, he LOVES to sit on his perch and people watch, he is fascinated with squirrels and certain people that walk by. He is just to nosy. Echo like to people watch but only in a very sunny window.
  2. Both the boys are out from the time i get up in the morning, til they go to bed about 8 or 8:30. I work at home so it's much easier to do this. The only time they are locked up is if i have to go out or sleeping.
  3. GSE will also help to remove dried formula. Water to soften it up and then gently clean him off.
  4. oh I am not upset about the bite at all, i know why he did it and I think if i had been him I would have bitten as well, Not worth taking pics of as it is so tiny, about the size of a crayon tip just out of a fresh box. I once had a chihuahua who bit a hole right through my thumb. She jumped off teh couch and as soon as she landed I heard the bone break, I went to grab her b/c she was shrieking and she bit me lol.....her bite was way worse then storms lol. trust me when I get bitten good I will post it lol, just so I can am worthy of the bite club lol,.
  5. Thats what we just did with Storm, I took him in my shower put him on his perch and he sat there, he didn't fight it, but I don't think he loved it either. My 10 yr old took Echo the quaker in with her and he wasn't sure at first but I heard the 2 of them laughing and playing so he liked it all better. She called me when she was ready to get out and he stepped up to me and said "shower"lol, he's so funny and for a quaker he is pretty precise with words and meaning,
  6. How do you do it? I have a shower perch and have been using it on windows since both the boys love to stare outside and see whats happening in the world outside the giant box they live in called a house. I am kinda thinking i might actually use it for it's intended purpose, but am unsure how. is the water we use not to hot for them? what the smells of soaps and shampoos, is that not to strong for them? when you open the bathroom door the cold air comes in, would they not catch a chill from leaving the bathroom to the colder air? So if you shower with your fids, how do you do this? I'm not even sure if they would like it, Echo might because he loves water but storm so far really has little interest in being clean lol.
  7. this is one of the reasons i decided on a TAG, after researching and talking to various breeders most of which suggested TAGS for families with young/small children. CAGS can be a bit more wound up and more neurotic, TAGS apparently have a more relaxed personality, and tolerated an active household much better. This is what they told me, I don't know if it's true for all greys. I'm sure personalities can be as different as black and white. We had Mango a CAG who lost his mate, thinking i could turn him into a pet. He was a great bird with me most times, but he hated little people, he was so stressed all the time, he ate holes in my walls etc etc, we had to rehome him to a breeder home and since he was a breeder before this was the best thing for him. He is very happy there and he has a new "wife". Storm is a TAG and he IS pretty relaxed, he doesn't seem to mind that little people are always in my house and he will willingly go to them IF I put him on them. He used to step up for everyone but in the last 2 weeks this has changed, no he steps up to me only but will allow others to play with him and hold him. He seems to generally have a better temperment than Mango did, however that may be a baby thing and I imagine that as he gets older his behaviours might change as to what he tolerates and doesn't. I think some people suggest a tiel for a family with kids because while they do bite, they are less likely to bite to cause harm, not that a grey means to cause harm b/c i don't think they do, but they sure do have more power in their beaks than a tiel. That being said Echo is a quaker and he bites sometimes, and his bites hurt way worse than Storms do. Echo goes for blood, Storm has only bitten me twoce, the first time was because I startled him and he was trying to fight back, in his defense the room was fairly dark and I didn't say anything, so totally 100% my fault. He bit again yesterday but more in fear b/c his toes were stuck, so he was afraid, and that bite I didn't even feel until hours after when i lay in bed. When Echo bites he doesn't want to let go ntil he is sure he has inflicted you with enough pain. Bottom line is a parrot is a wild animal, they may be domesticated in the future but very far into it. As any wild animal they can bit, I have learned that with parrots it isn't a matter of IF they bite but WHEN they bite and they all will.
  8. i decided yesterday that we were going to St clements to exotic wings and things, the parrot store. So i called a friend and we went. Storm did great on the way there. He got his nails taken care of and was a good bird while I exchanged some food and he helped us to pick out some new toys for him. On the way home he decided to climb the carrier's top which is barred. Well started screeching that god awful screech where you know your baby is going to die if you don't do something. I panicked when I saw his 2 toes were caught in the barring. I tried pushing is toes back through but no luck. I put my hand in the carrier to hold his body up and try to get him to stop thrashing...finally got his toe out and checked him all over, he seemed fine and no worse for the wear, than I saw all this blood, like a lot of blood. Thinking it came from him I started to look for the wound, he didn't have a single bit of blood on him. Turns out he must have bitten me while i was trying to free him, I didn't feel him bite me but I was so panicked and afraid he was gonna rip off his toes, i can see how i missed being bitten. Turns out he really did a number on my finger both sides have a hole right through, it actually looks like his beak went through one side and out the other. not possible b/c i have bones there but holy crap, i didn't know my finger could bleed so much so fast. Carried on our way and made it home, he was thrilled to be home and started whistling and making noise as soon as he was back on top of his cage. As for me, my finger is fine, i felt it pulsing last night night and it hurt quite a bit, but is fine this morning, it's pretty bruised and the actual bite is really tiny, smaller than a single stitch would be. On a good note he is really experimenting with his sounds, he does say a few words i think but nothing that is very clear and understandable. He seems to have noisy time of the day, first thing in the morning, early in the afternoon and evening, he isn't noisy like screaming noisy he is just vocal and we love listening to his sounds. I bought the boys a boing this week and i now wonder why i never had one for echo, he loves it. Storm likes it but not as much as Echo does. I actually ordered 2 more so by the end of the week will have 4...the 8 ft one is hanging from the kitchen ceiling, the other 2 will be above each cage. Echo has discovered that he is a climber, and is now loving climbing the plastic chain i have above his cage, he hangs out there a good chunk of the day, i imagine he will do the same with a boing. Don't mind my messy kitchen, i was trying to get dinner ready at the same time. And of course I have pics.: Here you can hear storm playing with sounds, I think when he does talk i might have issues getting him to be quiet Echo hanging out on his chains bouncy bouncy birdies and another http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y298/beaniebabysmommy/?action=view&current=baoing1.jpg
  9. I don't understand, right now Storm eats zupreem fruit blend pellets. Not exactly what I want him on but anyway....he loves these pellets and will eat every colour but red and orange, well he will eat some orange but not all. I thought pellets were all the same despite the colour of them are they not all supposed to stay the same? Why will he not eat red ones?? I am tempted to eat some just so I can see if they taste different then the others but I jut don't have that much courage. I am thinking its a waste to have to throw away the reds and some orange...
  10. toos are loud, but I would much prefer them over lovebirds....they are the only bird that is able to annoy me with their calls lol.
  11. YES HE TALKS!! I have no clue what he is saying at this point b/c it isn't very clear...but he has this robotic tone to his voice and he talks in a man voice....he was raised by a female and he lives with females, so shouldn't he speak like a girl??? LOL thats actually a funny thought, a male speaking in a female tone lmao. But yes he really does talk. Not often just yet but 2ce today I heard that robotic tone and a word but not clear enough to hear it kwim?? not even 6 months old and talking. Clearly I have a genius TAG !!!
  12. I love your accent!! My boy gives so much trouble going to bed, one day perhaps he will go in just like Jellybean does.
  13. well this video is a month old now, he is now almost 6 months old. No he wasn't weaned fully when I got him, he is now but I still feed him at night b/c we both enjoy it. I will probably feed him at night for his lifetime as I have done for My quaker parrot. It's my favorite time of day
  14. aww poor girl. That splint doesn't look very comfortable. I hope she heals up quick
  15. yesterday I had an extra child due to a winter storm, so my house was a bit crazy with her wanting to go home and me wishing she could. I went outside to have a smoke and heard my daughter screaming about something so I flew in the house to hear her yelling "Storm talked, Storm talked" she said he said hello. I hope she is lying because if he really did I missed it ...he isn't quite 6 months old (jan 3 he will be) is it even possible he did this? I tried to get him to do it again but the cheeky bum won't
  16. well that's the thing, had shipping not been as much as it was, I would have ordered 2 more. $40 is a great price and she uses it for her macaws so absolutely safe for the weight of a grey. I would recommend this for anyone with a larger bird. I love the portability of if as well...I just hate moving them around the house, so want more lol.
  17. When I first got Storm I ordered him "the percher" bc I do most of my shopping online it's hard to see and feel the weight of an object. It was clear that the percher would be great for Echo but not Storm, it's just to light and to flimsy for a bigger bird. I didn't trust it not to tip so I made my own, I posted pics of that when I did it. Well I didn't like that one either because the perch itself was square and Storm didn't seem to like it much, so I went on another search. I was reading about cages on here and someone made a comment about the cage needing more toys and gave the link to her site. I clicked the link, and what did I see? A perfect stand for Storm, it was everything I wanted, safe, portable and easy to clean, so I messaged her and asked her about shipping to canada (most us site won't) and she got back to me a few days later with a shipping price. It was a very high price, but it was about safety so how could I refuse.... It arrived yesterday and it is amazing, Storm stepped right up onto it and started loving it, Echo who is a bit jealous that he doesn't have 1 also got to try it out and he loves it as well, if I could afford the shipping I would seriously buy 1 or 2 more, 1 for Echo and one for my kitchen. I also ordered a "want noise" toy and Storm who is quite playful loves it as well, she also sent along a complimentary toy that Storm has destroyed already. Carol was a wonderful person to work with, and I am so glad that I asked about shipping. She was great, she didn't rush into shipping, she looked around to find me the best shipping price. She sent it out right after getting my payment and sent me an e-mail that it was to arrive Friday or Monday (of next week) Imagine my delight when this turkey fryer box came and inside was the stand. Friggen awesome. Carol I know you are a member here so if you are reading this, thank you again. The stand is perfect and if I win a lottery or shipping prices come down I will be ordering 2 more of these wonderful stands. Here are a couple of pics... and the link to Carol's site http://www.crazyforbirdtoys.com/foot-toys.html
  18. I have waist length hair that I wear in a braid or up in a bun, depending on my mood. Storm LOVES to play in my hair, I try not to let him but he is pretty insistant...what are the chances of him biting off my braid and giving me a birdie style hair cut? It sounds silly I know but when I was a kid I had a guinea pig, he slept with me one night and the next morning I woke up yo a VERY BAD hair cut on my bangs....he is just preening right? he won't actually snip it off will he?
  19. Storm is so funny, he makes us laugh ALL.THE.TIME. I think he might be trying to talk but when he gets going he sounds like a 13 yr old boy entering puberty the way his little voice squeaks lol. I think when he finally does start to talk he will be a chatter box and never shut up lol. He gets going with so many different sounds ans seems like he can't stop. HE scared himself silly last night and fell off his perch, he was making clucks and whistles and such and let out a new sound and he was so startled by it, he fell off his perch lol. Echo is a great talker, you can actually have a fairly decent conversation with him, and most of the time his answers are appropriate he has about 150 words, which for a quaker is awesome...took my daughter to the first day of school last year and I came home: Me: I echo I'm home Echo: whats the matter me: I just dropped sissy girl off to school an I'm a bit sad Echo: its ok, it's ok I also do rescue work with orphaned kittens, I bottle feed them until they are ready to be socialized, I always introduce Echo the babes after their eyes have opened, and he always say "no biting" not sure of he is telling them not to bite him or telling them they are no to bite him...lol LOL, he is such a wee love. Now if I could get him to say "no biting" before he bites" and "good morning" in the morning and not when I trying to put him to bed lol. But if Storm is anything like Echo, our household will be filled with voices (not the ones in my head either lol) barking orders, making phone sounds, fire alarms sounds, general chatting etc etc..I am excited to hear him talk and I don't think it's gonna be that much longer at the rate he is going, by Spring I bet.
  20. ok med-large it is then lol. I hate not being able to touch the toy and check it all out before I buy it, but if I waited til I went into a city the poor guys would never have any toys to play with.
  21. bc I live in a small town with not much here, I often order bird toys and such online...most stores have them in catagories relating to size.....where does a TAG fit in in there??? Compared to Echo he is extra large but compared to a macaw he is small. So I'm not sure
  22. sorry wrong forum so I moved it to the right one
  23. well it scared the heck out of me, I thought he was hurt, bruised or broken.
  24. Does anyone have a video of a grey playing and making sounds that are not words, but general grey noises...I am trying to decide what the noise he makes at his toys in in fun or if he is ticked off.
  25. Nancy, tyvm sometimes when I type my fingers get going much faster than my brain and I often make mistakes as well lol. No worries just thrilled to know that neither of my boys are in any danger of being ruined by me lol.
