  1. Hagen Tropican Lifetime Parrot Sticks Bird Food Pellets is what I feed my non grey but darn do they smell good! he however much prefers his food fresh........ I put the pellets and Higgins Sunburst Gourmet Bird Food in his cage daily but it just sits there lol! at this rate his bags of food are going to last for years!
  2. here are some pictures of our boy becker. we all adore him and he sure knows he is the center of everyones attention . and a old picture of the blue and gold macaw who stole my heart 30 years ago........ my sweet bo bird
  3. trying to attach a picture of the rescued green wing the guy who has this bird thought it was a hybrid between a scarlet and a african grey ROTFL! UMMMMMM NO
  4. my next bird will be a green wing just not sure when. a friend of mine just took one in and I tried my best to talk him out of it! so I could try to keep him...... poor bird was left in a abandon meth house-trailer. really sad situation. I still wish my friend would turn the bird over to me. although now I have the bg and would have to figure out some isolation ...... I have always been a person who rescues. so this bird was and is calling my name. then another side of me knows that a macaw is a lifetime ....... so I question the thought of bringing in a rescue who clearly is going to come with issues. I tinker with the idea of a baby a friend of mine said she would wean it for me.............. so maybe I will go that way when I feel ready. then I will know my bg will be protected from strange bird nasties....... and I will get one without issues lol! but then again......... so many need a home like mine
  5. I try to make sure everyone in my home handles our macaw daily....... he would quickly bond to my 11 year old daughter given half a chance! my 9 year old wants to love him........ but she is probably 3rd on his favorite list. I myself am in second lol!...... and I am the one who cooks for him ! darn bird! mine will try to get snippy from time to time....I give the step up and he growls and moves away..... I follow with step up and if he goes to bite I grab his beak with my free hand lol! then he thinks it is some sort of game.....however he respects me.
  6. I ordered one last night and cant wait for it to get here! but it is pretty darn cold here in Michigan so we will have allot of house practice. I highly doubt my macaw will attempt to fly with it..... I am just so happy to have a bird again.
  7. our boy doesnt pinch when he trys to feed us......... it is quite the game when you want him to step up and all he wants it to share his food with ya! lol! my daughter trying to get becker to step up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_kQXA1ZAp0&feature=share&list=UU5z6-IJJG2fryWxAXYcuAoA
  8. I am not a grey owner although I think they are amazing birds! just looking around and reading mostly. I have a blue and gold macaw....... 5 dobermans.... 3 horses..... 4 cats..... chickens .... guineas... oo and 5 kids.
  9. I have only ever had blue and golds....... when trying to win one over it helps to just sit close to them and talk softly and offer nuts from time to time lol! I wait for them to come to me...... but it seems bubba has been with you for quite some time now and should be use to you. so maybe he is bonding to close to hubby. maybe you two should switch what birds you attend to most macaws can be grumpy.... best wishes to you and your pretty boys
  10. wondering what was dans thoughts after the getting use to over weeks trial. I have never owned a grey...... but stumbled across this while looking at this product. many years ago I owned a blue and gold...... that bird went everywhere with me! and all I had to secure him was a long string tied to his leg band. not the best plan of action I realize now..... back then I dont recall harness for birds. but the point of my story is my bird went out with me daily on bike rides walks and car rides. he always had the string on him....... he only one time spooked and fluttered to the ground where I quickly retrieved him. I used the string for over 5 years.... my husband got the bird in the divorce or he would still be with me. I just got a new bg and plan to try this product with him. I do believe that it can be a good thing because it would be quick and easy to take your bird with you. I tend to carry mine with hand on feet until they are use to going out and not as likely to startle....... I think it is a good thing I sure hope it works as well as I hope. I know after the first few times I used a string on my bird years ago he knew he was attached and didnt even try to go from me. he would ride on my back as I rode a bicycle and loved it! I am looking forward to trying this
