  1. LOL Sadly, I've seen many of these myself...
  2. It will be replaced with all sorts of other interesting noises though! Most of which your baby will learn from you, and many of which you didn't know you made until you hear them
  3. Greys have so much "heart." Reading all the rehome stories here reminds me that regardless of the neglectful or abusive situations they have been in, they still strive to communicate and interact given the opportunity. What spirited creatures they are! I was listening to Timber chattering away on the birdie cam (I'm at work) this morning. I thought, "he sounds so happy." And, I think he is! That makes me smile...
  4. We have a kerosene heater as a backup. Same there, probably some risk from fumes, but in a "no choice" situation I'd fire it up. You just don't think about a situation where you have no heat AND no ability to leave and go somewhere warm.
  5. I feel for you. Hope the raining and freezing doesn't bring any more power lines down to ice the cake!
  6. I ordered the My Weigh 3001P - Avian Edition - Silver from the Old Will Knotts Scales place in Dan's link above. It was a little cheaper than Amazon and had good reviews. I've been happy with it. Now if Timber would just get on it every time I try...
  7. Sure glad to hear you are all OK. I'm not sure I would have thought of using the candles for heat!
  8. Argh! Is that your car the tree came down on?
  9. Very true about the noise. I can't see a parrot being any worse than a colicky baby for instance. Glad to hear the neighbor is on her way out!
  10. Me too Aerial. I looked long and hard at them, but decided I wouldn't be able to keep Timber away from that cord when he is out. I was trying to find a battery powered but no luck. Ended up going with a supplemental heater for him. I have to admit, I like the heater too!
  11. Good news about the pic of the hubby with Cotay. Sounds like she was right about him!
  12. Cute video, thanks for sharing!
  13. When I rehomed Timber, I had a week of vacation. Brought him home on Sunday then I was off for a week. I think it was helpful to have the extra time with him when everything was totally different environment-wise. We had a chance to get to know each other before he was left alone all day. That said, I think he would have been fine with my going back to work Monday. They are adaptable to schedules.
  14. Great pics, thanks for sharing No feeling like it is there?
  15. Good idea! I look forward to reading more.
  16. I always hit the "new posts" link right under home on the menu bar.
  17. Wingy, I use a Foscam F18910W. There are lots out there and some are cheaper (some are more expensive). I've had good luck with it. It is color, built in mic, two-way, infra-red. I think it was $94. I got it direct from Foscam so I would have support if I couldn't get it hooked up or had trouble with remote viewing, but I didn't have to call. The quality is good, but dependent on your network speed. The cam is wireless. My DSL is slow (for DSL) so it can be a little jerky and slow to adjust if you are remote. With the software they give you, you can move the cam, take a still pic, turn infra-red off and on etc. You can also view it from your smart phone too. Video cuts in and out sometimes as does audio, but that is the connection, not the camera. I am satisfied with it. It serves the purpose I intended it for.
  18. LOL They are a lot like toddlers!
  19. Keep working on it. It takes time but it is worth it
  20. LOL Isn't that the truth! I was listening to a particularly long session of Timber "performing" over the bird cam today (I'm at work, wish I could figure out how to tape remotely). I heard him say "tickle, tickle" for the first time. I say that to him when I'm scratching his head. I also heard "I'm gonna get you bird" which is what my husband says when he is messing with him. Hubby also says "I'm gonna get a red tail feather" which I think I heard some of today. Yesterday, I heard him say "I love you" for the first time. I say it to him regularly and always at bedtime, but hadn't been sure that is what he said until yesterday. I've had him almost nine months now, and I have to say his talking has really picked up the last few weeks. So, don't despair other rehomers! The thing that always amazes me is their change in tone. It is very clear when Timber is saying something he learned from me and when he uses hubby's voice for something he got from him. Fascinating and so endearing...
  21. True! Many of us have birds that are named irregardless of gender. Coco is a good name for either, so that works!
