  1. Anyone have a good supplier for seeds to sprout? I've been using sproutpeople.org (big bird mix) and I love it. But the shipping costs are killing me! I was wondering if there are any other good suppliers out there... Thanks!
  2. Don't blame yourself. We all do the very best we know how to, and tragedies still happen. As to the comment about your country, it is probably no comfort but I understand that many of the commercial bird foods sold here in the US have the same problem. It isn't regulated as it should be here either. It helps to get online and educate yourself, as you are doing
  3. No, but I got a bird BECAUSE of young children in the home. Timber's previous home had young children. Children and greys both require a lot of time, attention and vigilance. Some can balance that, but many struggle with it. I don't know if this is the kind of answer you are looking for, but it's my experience.
  4. So sorry for your loss! My heart goes out to you. God bless
  5. Timber doesn't like it when I'm on the phone. Obviously, he doesn't have my full attention and that just won't do. Though he doesn't talk a lot when I'm in the room with him, he will almost always sit there saying "OK, bye" when I'm on the phone (hint, hint). I'm sure Jellybean misses your husband a lot, as do you. They are so sensitive to their environment and our emotions.
  6. Sometimes I can lure Timber on to the scale perch with a piece of cheese, sometimes not. I put it out on the counter the day before I plan to weigh him so he can get get used to it. You do what you can!
  7. That's exactly what I thought ^^ The second one looks more curious and engaged.
  8. Woohoo! It's like he is breaking out of a cocoon. Good job
  9. LOL Sadly, I've seen many of these myself...
  10. It will be replaced with all sorts of other interesting noises though! Most of which your baby will learn from you, and many of which you didn't know you made until you hear them
  11. Greys have so much "heart." Reading all the rehome stories here reminds me that regardless of the neglectful or abusive situations they have been in, they still strive to communicate and interact given the opportunity. What spirited creatures they are! I was listening to Timber chattering away on the birdie cam (I'm at work) this morning. I thought, "he sounds so happy." And, I think he is! That makes me smile...
  12. We have a kerosene heater as a backup. Same there, probably some risk from fumes, but in a "no choice" situation I'd fire it up. You just don't think about a situation where you have no heat AND no ability to leave and go somewhere warm.
  13. I feel for you. Hope the raining and freezing doesn't bring any more power lines down to ice the cake!
  14. I ordered the My Weigh 3001P - Avian Edition - Silver from the Old Will Knotts Scales place in Dan's link above. It was a little cheaper than Amazon and had good reviews. I've been happy with it. Now if Timber would just get on it every time I try...
  15. Sure glad to hear you are all OK. I'm not sure I would have thought of using the candles for heat!
  16. Argh! Is that your car the tree came down on?
  17. Very true about the noise. I can't see a parrot being any worse than a colicky baby for instance. Glad to hear the neighbor is on her way out!
  18. Me too Aerial. I looked long and hard at them, but decided I wouldn't be able to keep Timber away from that cord when he is out. I was trying to find a battery powered but no luck. Ended up going with a supplemental heater for him. I have to admit, I like the heater too!
  19. Good news about the pic of the hubby with Cotay. Sounds like she was right about him!
  20. Cute video, thanks for sharing!
  21. When I rehomed Timber, I had a week of vacation. Brought him home on Sunday then I was off for a week. I think it was helpful to have the extra time with him when everything was totally different environment-wise. We had a chance to get to know each other before he was left alone all day. That said, I think he would have been fine with my going back to work Monday. They are adaptable to schedules.
  22. Great pics, thanks for sharing No feeling like it is there?
