  1. I love it! I am so happy that he has joined your flock. I just wish we were not 3 New England states apart so visits can be made easier! He has settled in so nicely! What about Kojack? Bald head and kinda pompous, he would just need suckers. Oh wait, we are the suckers of him as he lured us in to his heart!
  2. I was going to get one of you and GreycieMae to send to Wendy and totally forgot myself! Ah, next time!
  3. Haha! Sterling and I met yesterday as well and we don't have pictures either. So now i am wondering, did it really happen? Lol
  4. Oh my, I picked up Cocaba yesterday, boy did all the tears start up again. He was cremated and we selected a box that would hold his picture. I didn't know it would come with a footprint cast and a few of his feathers. I don't know how they did the cast but it was his little feet. He only had one toe with a talon and the other toes were all different lengths. He came beautifully wrapped also with a card, a poem and a pin. Wow this place out did itself! No one has claimed Buddy, I keep checking for any reports but nothing. He has healed very nicely and we are pretty sure his head feathers will return. Right now he looks like he has a bad comb over going on. He also must be getting more secure with his surrounding, he is getting nippy. His hard bite though is like a macaw's nail on your arm and I feel bad when I giggle at him when he does bite me. I want him to feel like he is the bad ass he is acting like, but mosquitoes hurt worse than he does!
  5. Well got a lead and sent an email to them. In the mean time he took flight to meet the cockatoo's. Not the best idea he figured out, so off he flew to the macaw room. Even a worse idea. All is good though, he landed on Nati's cage and Nati could care less. Note to husband, if Buddy who is small and light and somewhat unnoticable when compared to our big guys, do not walk through the house! I think hubby really likes him though, he said it would be okay if no one claims him, his feelings wouldn't be hurt. Lol
  6. I have only found one missing ad and that is from Dallas area. Not very close but I sent an email to them for anything to identify him. I wish more people would pay attention to the leg band #'s, including myself. That is pretty much all I have to go on, they all look the same!!!
  7. Thank you everyone. Cocabas passing was a blessing for him as he is now with his buddy again. At 66 years old they were all probably asking him what the heck took him so long. But really, I do not think anyone is going to believe this but I got a message today from a friend asking me if I saw Nextdoor, the neighbor website. I hadn't and she said that there was a post about a found bird and some one gave my street and said we would take it in until the owner was found if they could catch him. They did and of course I did. 19 birds sure jumped back to 20 quickly. He is a sweet little conure who has a nasty cut on the top of his head, it has scabbed already, they said they have seen him for a few day now. He nursed on my ear so will be trying some formula later on once he settles in some. Also an escape artist, he was in the carrier as we set up his cage and I went to check on him and there he was sitting on the top of it. Just what I need huh, another one to chase around. Have posted on Parrots 911 and will call vets tomorrow but for tonight and until his human is found, he is safe and sound. I use to call Cocaba "Buddy", the lady who caught this one told me she has been calling him "Buddy", really??????
  8. Our baby boy has passed away. He is flying high and free again.
  9. Haha! That is exactly what my husband said. How you know every detail and notice the slightest things with 20 parrots, but not be phased about bright lights on your dash board!
  10. Cocabas heart is strong. Despite his slow movements and lack of eating good healthy food, he is still with us. Those pistachios must carry a good punch. I however am going broke keeping up with that supply. There are only 3 birds who eat them, Cocaba, Ixta and Koko but they run out before the walnuts do that 17 birds eat! I would take out a loan if I had to though for my boy to always have them! His eye seems a bit better, did a few Vetricyn sprays, not sure why we didn't think about that sooner, we were using saline drops, doh! I don't know if I had mentioned it, we think he waddled into a branch. Everyone else is hanging tough also, Kane is growing up soo fast and she is getting set in her ways already. Still loves to lay on her back by hanging by a toe and resting on her large perch. When she is upright, she has her head inside the coconut toy. Bongo, my statue that isn't anymore, has finally claimed his area of the countertop. Too bad it is where the coffee pot and rice cooker are. He can take apart the coffee maker in seconds and toss things one by one to the floor. The spoon to stir the coffee must be the devil stick to him, he beats the crap out of it before it gets thrown. I am off work today and have a mound of things to get done including cleaning 19 cages, mopping the floors and laundry. Oh and that oil change that has been flashing on the dash of my car for a month. To avoid one more discussion from the husband, I will be taking that in today as well. In my defense, the dash flashing just said "change oil soon" it did not say "change oil now dummy"!!! My "soon" and his "soon" do not hold the same definition!
  11. Thank you. No improvement. He is just surviving on pistachios. Have to bath him all the time now because his poop sticks to his tail area. And alsi he is on paper now instead of his normal wood shavings. We did have to trim his beak again poor guy. It was hard enough for him not to be able to see his nuts let alone not be able to eat them.
  12. I still love my Seventh Generation all purpose cleaner (lemongrass).
  13. I am sorry Sterling. To stop myself from checking on Cocaba every 5 minutes and touching him to make sure he is alive, I decided to make a stone wall in the aviary with each birds name engraved on it with either their birthdate or year they moved in with us. It started as I was going to make a headstone for Cocaba but that just sounded morbid and he will be cremated so the wall came to mind. I started with Ixta to practice since she has the fewest letters in her name. It was okay but I freehanded it and want them all to look the same so found stencils and will start again with the names on Friday. In the meantime I did this one for the center of the wall. I still have to paint it but back to a work week again and of course I have no paints at home so that will have to wait also. https://goo.gl/photos/x7DcvnY1DUbighFD8
  14. Well he is still with us but now has us thinking we need to take him in. I don't know what we are going to do. Pat gave him a great bath today and spent the day outside taking in some vitamins. Just feel pretty lost not knowing what to do. :-( life hasn't been the same with this going on, it is much harder than i expected.
  15. My little buddy is still hanging on, thank you all for your kind words.
  16. Been a hard week, Cocaba has started to decline. Only eats pistachios now, can not perch at all and walking is a struggle. It is so hard watching a great fellow die. I took him outside Friday and sat with him and cried and cried, not knowing what else I could do for him except show him how loved he is. He has had a great life for being 65+ years old, only had 3 homes and that is something to brag about! Still so hard watching my little buddy try so hard to be okay when you can see he isn't. We try to give him formula but he wants none of it so we made the choice to let him pass on his own as he came into the world.
  17. This is looking/sounding great! I can not wait to see the painting that is done.
  18. Of course since I was holding her with the cake, I couldn't take the pictures. That means they are on Pats phone. It takes a bit for him to send them to me so I can upload and share. :-( I have this one though, https://goo.gl/photos/hsxtfsrGYJPv3Mgt7 If anyone is looking for misters for birdie outside time I will now endorse our best find in a long time. Tower Mister by Orbitz. Lowes has this for $49. It is great. We bought 2 so we could get the kids outside until we could make ours, turns out I went and got 2 more and we stamped a done sticker on the project. It is on a tripod and the height is adjustable as are misters so we can swing them around as the wind changes directions. We have one hose bib and the splitter added on to it so we were able to attach the pvc misting system up and still have a place for our hose. Now needing to add 4 more hoses we got a few more double splitters and figured the water pressure would be awful for the misters to do any good but shockingly it wasn't at all. These misters are really great and strong. We didn't even need to put up fans to circulate the air and push the mist. They are also made of a steel-ish product so the birds can actually perch on them if they want and if they chew on them, they won't break like plastic would. Had them out last weekend, late into the afternoon before we gave out from the sun and brought them back in. A few we had to play chase with because they were not ready, lol. Oh, we also tried putting the greys in with the flighted macaws in the one big one, worked just fine. That freed up the second bigger one that we can divide easier to make 2 out of for our "over zealous" guys who don't play well with others. Muneca can not go into her spot until we can put up some toe spacers. She went after the macaws and I really thought she has gotten one of them because when Pat finally got her under control she had red all over her beak. It wasn't until I remembered that she had eaten raspberries and strawberries for breakfast that I stopped freaking out. They say we need to keep one step ahead of these guys, but how? How I ask?? I feel like I get a bit ahead and then they fly to the next perch leaving me in the dust. No way to keep ahead of them! LOL
  19. 365 days in a year and Kane has been with me for 361 of those days! Happy Hatchday my baby girl!
  20. Okay, okay! You are not going to believe this... Today, July 19th is Kanes 1 year hatchday! My baby is growing up way to fast. Gotta go make her her birthday birdie bread now so all 25 of us can sing, whistle or scream Happy Birthday to her!
  21. LOL, my basil, marigolds, rosemary, parsley and cilantro are now just sticks in dirt. Despite giving it my best effort they all died. Had the fiddos out yesterday, they really seemed to enjoy that sunshine. We had to do a little more building for Cocaba though. He no longer perches and the sight isn't there so he tends to think his flat area goes on forever until he flips off the side so we came up with what we have dubbed, senior living. Took a large cage and framed the inside with 2x4's over the bowl holders and wired the bottom. I went and got 3 sod pieces to cover the wire so he could walk and forage on it. Placed a few branches around and bam, he can't fall off the edge anymore. His time is drawing near, not eating much if anything anymore. Water bowl isn't getting dirty with the shavings so we can only assume he isn't drinking. He way of walking now is with his beak firmly planted in front of him for balance. I spent most of the afternoon crying for him because I just want him to be happy doing what he loves until the end and until we came up with the cage idea, he hasn't been able to be outside. We first let him walk around the bottom of the flights while the big guys were inside but the ants were too much, we tried to put a bottom tray on a stand for him but the edge thing didn't work, he walked right off it. My heart now is happy for him because he back outside where he loves to be! He isn't thrilled with the bars around him since he has not been in a cage for several years but I hope he understands it is the best we can offer him right now. I got to hold Nati yesterday too, this is the first time since she moved in I held her. I even buried my face under her wing and gave he kisses. I did not get to do this without a warning from her though. Little nip on my nose and a few drops of blood but after that when in tried again I think she said to herself, okay this lady is nuts and isn't going to stop until she is under my wing so I will let her do this and maybe she will get it out of her system. Oh, I did manage to grow a red pepper. Just one but totally worth it. https://goo.gl/photos/ysPJ76TFf1YYc3mC6
  22. I am laughing so hard at that! Thank you, needed the giggle. We made our misters from pvc and the heads that you can buy to "add" on to existing. Works great! Just put a cut off on it and instant cool when we want it. It isn't hard, it is the time. I need more time! Hubby has his one handyman service now so you can hire him to get stuff done for you Steve. Atleast one of us could be able to have misters this year! Lol i fell like a mechanics wife whos car never runs! We are going to start advertising for the bird flights though for those who don't know where to start!
  23. Yea, we haven't got to put misters in the new ones yet or a roof, just 2 bamboo shades on one side. The older ones have the misters and it is fine but only fits 6 - 8 birds max. We had them all out a few weekends ago and all but 3 macaws and 1 grey lasted, the others all looked like they were about to stroke out. Again the ones in the older flights were fine.
  24. Aww man, they said they eat the roaches. Well it isn't like our birds are able to be outside anyway, to freaking hot. The only time would be in the morning and I have to work. :-(
