  1. Nope, they are blue throats. You can see on the last picture, the one in the pen in the back, his front is the only one showing. I have blue and gold's so i do know the difference. I think she only has one blue and gold and he is one of her free fliers. And by the way, i thought all blue and golds looked like this...lol heehee
  2. We have my boy Bongo, 8 or 9. Gabby, my hubby's girls who is 25 and Cotay, also my hubby's girl who is 13. Another girl who will be moving in within the next few weeks, Ixta. I don't know her age yet but she is named after a volcano. And 2 more in a few months who are retired breeders, don't have their names yet. She keeps telling me their names but they are not sticking in my head for some reason. lol I am thinking about changing all their names to "hey, you there", man that would be so much easier for me! I think poor Gabby thinks her name is Bong-Co-Ahhh-Gabby.
  3. I tried that already. It didn't work. I tried wearing the scarlet as a hat when i was leaving, she didn't fall for that either. She is pretty darn smart. i mean really, who would have known it was a bird on my head? Lol
  4. Right now i am at work having myself one heck of a pity party. It has been a morning from hell. I can't for the life of me figure out why i even got out of bed. And with all that has been going on so far today, i have gotten myself a stress cold sore to boot! Hubby just told me that he would meet me behind the barn to put me down. I told him i would be there waiting! I just want to go home and spend time with my birdies and make sprouts, is that too much to ask for? Apparently it is.
  5. Already sold if that helps any. Lol
  6. I guess he is over it. He was puking for me last night, lol. Never thought i would be happy for puke... What a weird direction my life has taken.
  7. Look who's little red bottom is growing up! "she" was standing up like a penguin and flapping those little wings. She is going to be so smart too, just really pays attention to everything. I didn't get her out though, she was either flapping, eating or sleeping so i mostly played with the scarlet and red front. Do you all remember me talking about Sugar Ray (RayRay)? He was the blue throat with no toes, well he is all grown up too and this is him on the side of the playpen, he climbed out and perched there all by himself. His parents also chewed his wing so he can't fly but he sure gets around and you find him in places you would never expect.
  8. This is like a little diary, i love it. It really makes me feel better to put my feelings down, then i can move past it. Dear Fiddos, Ok mama is stressed enough and i would really appreciate if maybe you could work with me on the following: Bongo- PLEASE stop chewing your feathers. I love winter and all but every time i come into your room it is like a snow storm. Those fluffy white feathers are really hard to pick up! Gus and Lily, please stop the screaming. Take a hint from Koko and sit back and enjoy the ride. You get your favorite foods, lots of toys, a whole lotta love and your really not in your cage enough to scream like you do. Give it up please, we are not going to come and get you when you are like that. Koko gets to come out because she is being quiet and i would also guess she is deaf now because of your continuous screaming. Daddy has even developed a twitch with each scream! Chacho, stop running away from me and laughing, it really isn't that funny. I know i laugh sometimes but i am too old and tired to chase you down! Bubba, Oliver - Oliver please stop removing Bubbas feathers, it is getting close to winter now and he needs them to stay warm. You have not had yours for a long time so you are use to it, but he isn't. Bubba, stop letting him pick your feathers, you have a big beak, use it to push him away, don't just say "ouch" when he does it! Gabby and Cotay - Yeah, i got nothing for you two. Just keep on being daddy's girls and biting me i guess. Just remember, i am the one who cooks for you and slips you the goodies you hold so dear! Koko, I found your Christmas stocking yesterday, you are going to love it! Cotay, daddy said he wants to pick our yours. I found one but he didn't like it, said you were not a Grinch as much as i argued that you were, so he is charge of yours! I love!
  9. He is turning on me... Being obstinate, won't step up and is getting head strong. lol He makes me chase him when it is time to go back into his cage and he gets to the very top where i can't reach and laughs at me. Good times!??! I had to actually towel him last night to get him back in the cage. He flew to the top of the tv that is mounted in the corner. I didn't think he had room to land on it because it is so close to the ceiling, but he did. Since he couldn't get to the back where the wires are he started chewing the rim of plastic around the screen. So, is this really life with an amazon? LOL I am too old for this! We did his clip backwards as i mentioned and decided to wait until they grew back before doing it correctly, but we are really thinking we shouldn't wait but that would mean he would have no wing feathers if we clip the front ones. He is so head strong that i really feel even if we clip them that he would still fly out of pure spite! I got home from work Thursday and went into the room and i guess i must have been worn out. I was telling them to give me a minute and i would come get them out and walked over to his cage. I feel horrible that he can't come out with the rest of them, and that must have been showing because the cutie pants cocked his head and asked me if i was alright.
  10. Mine consists of red lentil (pain in the butt bc it sticks to the strainers, lol) chickpeas, green and yellow whole peas, adzuki beans, safflower, sunflower, pumpkin seeds. I am preety darn sure they only eat the sunflower seeds and garbanzo beans and the safflower though. The rest just make it colorful and pretty. lol I have been afraid of the mung, some people say you have to do it just right and the sprout has to be just the right growth before it is safe, blah blah blah, so i just opted not to try. Better safe than sorry. lol Sprouting is so much fun to me, it has become a little hobby and it is even more fun because the birds can join in, i have had the cockatoos in the bowls and 2 of the greys when i have been rinsing them.
  11. DO NOT TALK TO MY PARROT! Wanda's dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman. Since she had to go to work the next day, she told the repairman, "I'll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I'll mail you a check." "Oh, by the way don't worry about my bulldog. He won't bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT, under ANY circumstances, talk to my parrot!" "I REPEAT, DO NOT TALK TO MY PARROT!" When the repairman arrived at Wanda's apartment the following day, he discovered the biggest, meanest looking bulldog he has ever seen. But, just as she had said, the dog just lay there on the carpet watching the repairman go about his work. The parrot, however, drove him nuts the whole time with his incessant yelling, cursing and name calling. Finally the repairman couldn't contain himself any longer and yelled, "Shut up, you stupid, ugly bird!" To which the parrot replied, "Get him, Spike!"
  12. Sorry, i left off the s. http://Www.bulkfoods.com I get 1lbs, 5lbs to 25lbs there. Raw pumpkin seeds, all my beans and peas. I also buy from nuts.com i mix my own seed too so i make 20lbs at a time. It is just easier to throw out hulls than see a bunch of uneaten filler that come in prepackaged that i know i spent good money for.
  13. I must be cheap, lol. I make my own mix. I do buy in bulk though and most of my mix come from bulkfood.com. i also don't have a kit, just a lot of stainless mixing bowls and fine mesh strainers so the little lentils don't slip out. Lol I rinse soak rinse soak rinse soak for a full day the the next day rinse and strain and put back in bowl to begin the growing. I do rinse at least one or two times a day, mostly because mine are in a bowl so i like air to get all around them. By the third day they are ready! Gabby likes to eat them starting the second day, after a night of soaking. I don't let her have the beans that way, not until those sprout but all the rest of the stuff is just fine!
  14. Yes, most of ours came to us as pluckers. Bongo was our first in all of this and i actually bought him from someone. ( too long a story to get into, but he needed a better home ) He was fully feathered until recently. Kins, it is really easy to say "he needs to learn plucking isn't the norm" but just teaching them that is impossible. If there were a way, then there wouldn't be so many people with plucked birds and it wouldn't be such a big topic among the bird community. And who ever figures out how to stop this is going to be one rich person! lol Yes, there are triggers but once they start, watch out. There are so many waves of emotion you go through when your birds starts doing this. Blame, guilt, frustration and even anger are all emotions we as the parronts go through until we accept it. One day we see a bunch of feathers coming in and get so excited, the next day they are gone again and we spiral back down to the low point. It is very hard to deal with but we have to trudge on. I understand exactly how you are feeling and if there was anything i could do to help i would in an instant. Give Mr Fuzzy Butt a hug from us and yourself too!

    Five Facts

So far i have found out i am pretty boring... 1- my dad played baseball for the Red Sox and then Yankees in the mid 40's 2- married to the same amazing guy for 27yrs in just a few more months 3- got to tour a few towns on the bus with Judus Priest 4- lost my dad to suicide, mom to cancer and a brother to aids 5- soon will be opening our dream of an avian sanctuary
  16. Ah, given her personality i can see sadistic, lol. Most of the time she throws what i give her. Then when i am not looking she will go to the bottom and get it.
  17. As much as she dislikes me, i would be afraid of what words she is teaching me. There is one word she says to me every time she sees me and no one seems to know what it is. I can't spell it but by hook on phonics terms it is "la wee ta". And then there is "sa dee co" when she gets anything handed to her. Any ideas would be great! Lol
  18. Bongo is the only grey i allow on my shoulder and he has turned and smacked me a few times but not bitten. I wear glasses so it is like a toys waiting to be played with and they will go for the ear piece. I tried once, and i stress once, to let Gabby on my shoulder and she reached around and grabbed the corner of my mouth and made a nice slice. (she doesn't like me to much anyway so having her there was at my own risk) I have gotten many ear bites from the cockatoos, who are no longer allowed anywhere near the face. Hubby on the other hand walks around with a grey on each shoulder. Point being, only you can decide if you should or shouldn't. You know your bird best, but remember if you should get bit, it really isn't the birds fault because you allowed that possibility.
  19. Haha, I would have one of each if i could! But i do find it funny that with as many as i do have i don't have any of what she breeds except for the greys.
  20. I am laughing so hard at that! First thing i said when i saw him was NO! He has to be a pet but no lost ads anywhere.
  21. A friend of mine is a breeder. I get to play with all the babies to help socialize them. No new blue throats right now, just the two that are not completely weened yet, the rest were already in flights. The scarlet kept his wing over that baby alot. It was like he was hiding her or keeping her warm. Sooo cute!
  22. I gotta say, he looks better than Bongo does. Bongo started destroying his feathers I guess about a month ago, at least your little guy still has feathers here and there. Bongo looks like a little ball of fluff. His feathers are still all there just picked and over preened and fluffy. I am going to have to learn how to put photos together to make one picture so i can show you my naked flock. I shouldn't say this but Lily is the only one of mine not plucked, so 1 out of 9. I look at all those birds that have no toys ever, a bad diet, not sunshine and they have beautiful feathers and I ask, what am I doing wrong??? But i have just come to accept that i run a nudist colony and Lily is just a rebel going against the grain!
  23. Who could ever resist this cute little bottom? What a little baby and he pooped right down the front of my shirt and I didn't even care! I love my Mondays. Also a picture of a red front and scarlet macaw that I got to play with today. The scarlet is a sweetheart, I would take her home in a heartbeat! Oh heck, if I could they would all come home with me, home by the way would be a padded room my hubby would be putting me in, lol.
  24. Mexico. Cotay would be okay there, she would know what people were saying, we would be screwed. If we went to France, Chacho would be okay since he speaks French, again we would be screwed. Ya know what? My birds know more languages than I do... That just isn't right, lol.
