  1. I do sweet potatoes steamed, boiled, baked. If I am making mashed potatoes for us, I make them mashed for the flock. If we are baking potatoes, I put on some for them. I use a parrot spice mix I buy from Wendy Craig @ Wendys Parrots, in everything I make for them too. For a while my hubby thought it was for us and was putting it on his food and using it in our mashed potatoes until I caught him doing that one day. My bad though, I put it in one of my spice bottles and didn't label it, lol. Not that it is bad for us, it is perfectly safe but... The birds love it and now will not eat sprouts without it on there, so I have created food snobs! A favorite meal that every one of my guys eat is when I make brown rice, chop up raw broccoli and carrots and mix it together with palm oil and make mashed sweet potatoes. Serve warm and every bowl will be empty!
  2. Big hugs to everyone! Well said and brought tears to my eyes!
  3. Really? Can you tell Bongo that please? Lol after all the work we did i had just put them down for bed and we went out back with our well deserved beverages and sat down. Hubby asked if i had put them to bed and i said yes. He then asked me why there was a bird flying around the kitchen! Bongo got out of his cage and was having a blast!
  4. It was heaven! They spent the entire day outside yesterday, well most of them did anyway, lol. What a great feeling knowing I can walk outside with them and if the fly, they are still safe. Also we don't have to crate the greys anymore to take them out! The poor cockatoo's though, Koko was great and didn't scream. Gus refused to come out of his cage so he stayed inside happy as a kitten. Lily, well she did good for about 4 hours then said enough was enough and screamed until we took her back inside. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-2CIYo05f3VE/VT1n0eVJSbI/AAAAAAAAB-Y/bX3_EqmPH10/w326-h579-no/20150426_173307.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-L_-5dJhno_g/VT1oVJ1drLI/AAAAAAAAB_g/BIVwW2oDSck/w326-h579-no/20150426_173550.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Yps9N4aFlEE/VT1oGO3gA_I/AAAAAAAAB_U/S1BrfAndyh4/w326-h579-no/20150426_173422.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-6bsuarmBOZc/VT1n7k2zpMI/AAAAAAAAB-w/JdLnWCUSJpI/w326-h579-no/20150426_173348.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-C1w-7U-tkSc/VT1n4NYjiGI/AAAAAAAAB-k/GoRmfYACpHA/w326-h579-no/20150426_173323.jpg
  5. They sure do! You didn't diminish anything, food IS his motivation! lol
  6. Ahh, that's it! He saw the sweet potatoes cooking and figured if he did that I would give him a pre dinner sample! It worked. lol He has trained me well.
  7. While I was making dinner last night, my previously known as "the statue" bird Bongo, flew on to my shoulder and rubbed his face on my cheek. He then gave me the biggest kiss with sound effects, kissed me again then flew off back to play with Gabby. What a great feeling that was and I just had to share it. Nothing like your bird taking time out of play to tell you that he loves you, that he really loves you. I just can't stop smiling!
  8. Gus is just a mess, a sweet and lovable mess! I find he is happy every other half hour, the other times he seems confused. He loves Koko but is now spending time with Lily again hanging out on the top of her cage. He is in girl overload we think, problem is as soon as we let Lily out she attacks. He can hang out on top of her cage and all is good, no toe biting but then add Koko to the mix and he starts flying everywhere to get away from them all! He still screams a lot but nothing like before, we can tolerate it now without getting headaches, lol. His screaming now has meaning.
  9. Haha. I will get a picture but since we didn't get dirt, i decided to put some lipstick on that pig of a swamp. I put a part of our stairs in there and it floated so i put a singing dancing rubber frog on it and it is just floating around in there! All are welcome, all i ask is to clean your own cages! Lol
  10. I guess we can't remind them of anything since we have called twice and still have not gotten a call back. So roof is on now, just have to fix an area that is still open by the bay window. That is going to require some thought and we were just to tired to think. Also need to power wash it and add the perches and toys. And now rain for the next 3 days. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ffUsHazMxLI/VTRTFAYqGuI/AAAAAAAAB6Q/UUWLVpN70u8/w326-h579-no/20150419_201434.jpg
  11. So, if the rain hold out this weekend, the roof will be going up! We also figured out a way to incorporate the other flights into the mix down the road when the swamp is filled. Talked to a pool company and they are always looking for places to dump dirt so we are on the list! They said about 6 loads should fill it up, six loads won't fit in our driveway though but I am not turning it down! Sure beats buying it. TGIF!
  12. Ordered today! Even with shipping, it is cheaper than anywhere else I have looked! Thanks for sharing. And yes, I am in training to be Felix Certified. I just can't get past the "look of distain"! lol
  13. Yup, us too. The neighbors hate the frogs. The cockatoos don't bother them but the bull frog does. Go figure!
  14. We have had it for years. The koi love watermelon and eat from our hands. Darn egrets got 7 last summer, left me with 9 but a few are over 14" now. Its fun and relaxing until we have to get in it to clean it, luckily thats just once a year!
  15. We have the koi pond already, what i need is room for more flights and Pat and my pop up tent since i am out of room inside! Lol
  16. Got a kiss from Sunny last night! I think it was Sunny anyway. I have got to get a better way to tell them apart! I just can't remember who's leg band is flat and who's is rounded, one has the blue on the inside of the band but to hard to see and it is wearing off. Lol
  17. Still have the center roof to put up and two doors for the 2 smaller flights but it is done. (please ignore the swamp, we are now just calling it a moat) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ywyPijaDHP0/VSsQuaL7aQI/AAAAAAAAB10/IUujj2rj3hc/w326-h579-no/20150412_194046.jpg
  18. We were generously given new flights for the addition of birds we have acquired from our friend. Our friends birds are all flighted and getting them to our original aviaries is a challenge. He has given us his flights which he used to enclose the front of his house. They are the panels, which we love, but it is worse than a 5000 piece puzzle! They were designed for the front of his house so it is a perfect fit, we broke them down last weekend not even thinking about which piece fits where because we would be redesigning it anyway. Oh, bad idea, first off there were so many panels we ended up having to rent a uhaul to get them to our house and now we don't know which was a ceiling or a wall unless we measure every time.lol. There is a 5" difference in the walls, there are spaces used on several. We did manage to get one section assembled last Sunday that will hold the macaws, now we need to use the remainder to create 3 more. In our zest to begin the building, we drained our pool a few weeks ago after our blind dog had died (because now we could do this without worrying she would fall in the hole) but failed to think about getting enough dirt to fill it in or how we would get it back to the back yard since we have build a concrete retaining wall and can't get a tractor back there anymore. The edges started buckling in and it became a death trap for our other dogs. We had to pull the liner and remove the walls of it and then it rained for weeks and we now have a huge 25' around mud pond with safety fencing all around it, and dog crates to finish where we ran out of fencing. What a mess we have gotten into because we were also given 14' long pieces of metal roofing for our flights which are hanging off of our driveway in the front yard. We are the perfect picture of a bad trashy neighbor. lol We have 2 days to get all of this cleaned up and the rest of the flights built, wish us luck please, we are going to need it! Oh, I am going to be calling swimming pool builders and see if they can give us the dirt they dig up when they build a pool. If we have to buy dirt it will run over $800.00 and they have to pay to dump it so seems like a good trade off to me, we will see! Here is the one we did piece together. Looks like it was simple right? Wrong! lol https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-J76OQ9J1JuU/VSb-3YsraFI/AAAAAAAABzE/SB5-APW3wv4/w326-h579-no/20150409_173544.jpg
  19. Very true. A water bottle filled with pellets is always a good toy! I am in dire need of pistachios. Koko is eating me out of house and nuts! Lol
  20. And I missed it yet again. I never got the email about it. :-( Probably for the best though, lol.
  21. I know, it does me to but with 4 now that do lay, I just have to keep my eye on them and keep my fingers crossed. Our neighbor down at the end of the road lost his umbrella to that, she was in her 20's. I did it, I was told it couldn't be done and dinner wasn't ready until after 9pm last night but I did it! Cleaned all 14 cages after work. I had 13 1/2 done by 7. Koko let me clean half of her double cage before it started to make her mad so I would put down a piece of paper and leave the room. Let her go back to playing and run in a put in another. Gus's cage she wouldn't let me near. When it was time for their dinner, as Pat was getting the bowls, Koko flew at him to attack so she had to go back into her cage, but I was able to get the other half cleaned out while he and her had a talk about how that wasn't nice, lol. I didn't get the paper in so after the cage door was shut, I just slid it in place. Then since she was up, I was able to clean Gus's. Still grab a paper and run but it is clean again. I turned around slowly to look at my progress with pride. Only to see Lily had flapped during the excitement and her paper was everywhere but where I had put it, Koko had hers out again. (I slide it in, she slides it out) It looked like I had not done a thing in there. It took 3 kitchen garbage bags for everyone and looked like I could have used 1 more. Normally I do not do them all in a day but I wasn't able to do them this weekend so I had to before garbage day today! The new girls, Honey and Sunny took it in stride and just watched from the tops, only flew off once. Sunny came down the side and stuck her head inside with me in there putting in the new paper but then just looked at me as if saying, "ok, you are doing it right."
  22. Oh those big beautiful dark eyes. Such a beauty. Looks very comfy for sure. I am not sure how, but you will be even more wrapped around her talon in the days to come!
  23. What a cutie pie! Ummm, Sterling? Babysitting huh? I am pretty close so when ever you need a fix, come on over. I sure could use a day off!
