if you want to have powercoat redone, I was just looking around having my cage change color, did call around local power coat shops and here are the prices: YOu have to take cage a part, they will send blast old coat off, and they recommended putting two coats at list on the bottom tray for protection from moisture. Single coat $150 any color Doble coat all cage $200 - any color take 2 days

SO Im going to completely rethink my seed/pallet diet. What seed mix would you recommend? I went to local bird shop and look at the mix they sell in bulk out of the barrels, and its very sad mix, not to many seed kinds in there. Should I get one form the petco or petsmart? what mix do you guy recommend?

I'll have to schedule visit to vet sometime soon. TO the pellets and seeds discussion. I did give her seeds in the pass, and once she gets taste of that, she wont eat pellets, plus out of the seeds she only pics one or two kinds and everything else is not eaten. I need some advice...

Thanks all for reply. Lucy is year and one month old. We got her when she was 7 months old from good breather, owner of the store. She was hand raised and adopted very quick, after few days we wore handling her and all. She eats very well. ZuPreem natural bland pellets all day long, eats good.. Fruits and vegetables all day long, usually one day fruits one day vegy's. My wife tells me that bird has better diet then the kids, LOL Joke, but I really balance the diet good. Once every few months we go on vacation for few days, and I have my parents come over and feed her and let her play outside for hour, so maybe stress marks come from that... All summer long she spends 1-2 outside with me, getting sun and good weather, in the cage I have UVB lighting 6 hours during the day, plus she is by the window. Over all she is very good bird, very active, happy, starting to talk a storm, not a bite, pleasure to have her around. She has plenty of toys to chew on and I switch toys in the cage every few days, making her new toys all the time, cardboard, wood, name it she has it, so she loved to destroy stuff any more questions?

whats is wrong with this picture? Beak is always peeling.. any ideas? and one more question, what are this horizontal white lines on newly grown tail feathers?
-
I do ZuPreem natural blend most of the time, seeds sometime on the weekend. IF Lucy has seeds all the time with in few days she switches on seeds and don't even want to look at the pellets. Fruits and vegetables all the time, all day long. Once I get home from work I remove pellets out of the cage and have her munch on greens for few ours and pellets before bed time.

sweet. thanks for all of your input. I think dometop is the way to go. thanks all

I need your input... Currently I have donetop cage, but I am shopping for newer one an considering Playtop. Lady at my local bird shop told me that dometop is better, and gives bird more open space and light. On the other hand my parrot spends few hours a day outside of the cage and on top on the cage. Cleaning poop in between the wires is kind of hard SO what is your experience with this two options, what would you recommend

I did look at the option of one of the local bird stores, where I got lucy from. ITs family operated place, parrots only. Owners are cool, but the other workers are so os, not so trusty, plus they had insedence where birds was stolen, and I dont want that to happen to my Lucy, so Ill do my best to keep her at home.

So we had Lucy for 5 months now and now she is 10 months old, such a sweet hart, joy to have her around the house. In August we are planing family vacation to Disney Land for one week. Usually we go on vacation for 2-3 days and I have my parents come over feed the dog and change food and water for Lucy, but 2-3 day is snothing, you see her in the morning, let her play, give her food and on you go, one more day and 3rd day you coming back home, so its really one full day. My parents are good people, love animals but no so crazy about birds and kind of afraid of her too anyway, for that we we will be gone they will come once a day for 30-min to one hour, fed the dog Mickey and feed Lucy. I will have list of food, vegetables and fruits they need to prep every day and all that stuff, so she gets same good food and all that good stuff she has now, my only concern is her play time. They can let her out of the cage and she can probably climb around her cage an all that, but its such a short time, and she will know something is missing. now the question of the day: Can birds tell how long time has pass? Like, can she tell if its just a day or this been a few days. if she has planty of fun toys, good food and all that stuff, can she stay good for a week like that? and take day at the time, or this will build up and something bad will happen. I am very afraid of her starting to pluck herself or something like that.. Anyone do vacations? I am looking at other people maybe coming over, but I dont have anyone that are good with birds, I dont want to put her in to pet store for that week so they can watch her, this can be more stress then good, all this new people, and birds I dont want non of that.. any input? I want to make best I can at home without moving her

Lucy is 8 months old and it took me about 5-6 training sessions to make a video. One or two sessions a day about 5-10 min long. was very easy, she got it fast. thanks all

I got my grey from Birds Hut on Division and 114th. She was on seeds when i got her, but at that age its easy to convert them. Tok me few days and she was on pellets in no time. SO I dont think that is a problem at that early age. Anyway, I did try to feed with Rodybush, but they are to soft and and crush to easy and they are more waist then food. Zupreem natura are good for her and she loves them allot.

I feed my african grey coconut mil, and she loves it allot, very good, nutritious, good source of calcium and vitamin D Im sure its about same as coconut oil and easy to come across. click on my signature link on the bottom it's my african grey blog, there is a video of Lucy drinking that Good stuff

thanks all for your input. I dont cover the cage. Cage is downstairs and once we all ready for bed time, we go upstairs to our bedrooms and lights off downstairs. I did plug in blue LED night light that go off and on with light sensor, that should be good deal. it's color programable and I set it on blue. SO I can try that, see what happens.
-
So here is what I got. every time lights go out for the bed time, Lucy starts to panic, runs back and forth in the cage, panicking, making her bird calls, like she is calling someone, eyes are wide big... It's like she is afraid of dark or something. Sometimes she jumps around the cage and just acting like someone after her to get her. Once lights off for 10-15 min she comes down and sleeps, but this transition time is scary for her. any ideas? Are they afraid of dark? Or just panicking when everyone lives the room and lights go off? Do you have night lights by your cage?

So I did search and looks like coconut milk is a good thing for parrots. SO few weeks back I started introducing Lucy to coconut milk and she loves it. Drinks it like no tomorrow. It has great source of calcium, vitamins, nothing but good stuff. Here is my youtube video of it on my blog: http://www.myafricangrey.com/ Let me know if any of you feeding your greys coconut milk too. thanks
