  1. TWIX, are you saying my CAG will come with a 200 page manual?!?! I'm a guy....we don't READ manuals!!!!
  2. Heres a real short video of Philly taken the other day. I swear he can see the infrared focusing beam (or whatever) on my camera!!! Once I turned it on, he was visibly cautious of it. But I love his little whiney voice!!! (I was holding him AND taking the video, so sorry for the bad framing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wp_Mfw2gf8&feature=youtu.be A couple more weeks and he should be fully weaned. I could take him now, but my schedule doesn't allow for hand-feeding.
  3. We went to visit our baby yesterday. We still don't know which one we'll choose, but here are the two that was were able to hold. (we were able to watch them being hand-fed as well. Interesting!!!) They're HUGE!! Also, our breeder told us that while she DOES clip their wings, she waits until after they fly, so I'm ok with that. TLW continues.....
  4. I am already convinced that my CAG's first word will be "JAYJAY!" (which is my dogs name). It gets said a LOT in every form...whispers, calls, yells, anger, you name it. My CAG's first phrase will probable be "who peed here?" (we have 3 dogs) hahahahahaha
  5. My breeder breeds a TON of different species (and this IS baby-season!!). That explains a lot...thanks!!
  6. I have a few new pictures and one big question!! Here are the latest pics sent by my breeder: My question: One of the birds appears to have a red head, but no red on it's tail?!?!?! I don't have an answer back from the breeder if that happens to be a different species that happens to be the same size of the other babies, but has anyone ever seen a red-headed CAG? I've read about the 'red factor' but don't really know what that is.....I thought it meant reddish feathers elsewhere on the body (sort of like highlights). I'm guessing it's another species completely. Anyway.....TLW continues!!!
  7. Thanks for the suggestion, Judy!! Easier said, than done, though....
  8. I'll get my CAG next month, but I'm already dreading some of the words and phrases that I just KNOW will be picked up. I'm trying to decide what I can tell people Philly really said..."He said 'something amiss', not 'son of a bitch'!! hahahaha
  9. I would think your breeder knows what's best. And if they DON'T, I'd be leery of buying from that breeder because they would be close to that "I only do this to make money" line-in-the-sand (IMHO) and I don't feel that I would be able to trust them. My own baby CAG was born 3/21 and I will be seeing him/her for the first time this week. The delay was due to the fact that the bird was up in LA being hand-fed because my breeder simply has too many babies right now (of different species) to handle. I think there is such a thing as a bird being too young to handle/visit simply due to the various germs that each person carries....less is more kind of thing until they're a certain age. What age that would be, again, would be best decided by your breeder. YMMV.
  10. Am i the only other person that thinks this is a scam?
  11. Off the top of my head, I'd say no. Most baby toys are NOT designed to be torn to shreds and possibly eaten....behavior you can expect out of your grey, but not your average baby.
  12. Who knows? Your hubby may actually take a liking to the bird!!! Cross your fingers!!
  13. There goes MY suggestion!! How about something similar but silly like Lolo?
  14. Nice!! Thanks for the video. Very good workmanship and looks CAG-proof!!
  15. Everyone attaches different significance to their birds name. Our baby (when we get him) will be named Philly. For us, it works on multiple levels: my partner is from the Philippines, spent many years in and loves the city of Philadelphia, and my mother's name is Phillis. hahahaha Seems like a natural to me! Good luck on whatever name you choose!!
  16. Ask your son if he watches "Drawn Together." There's a character in that show named Zander. He's rather.....uh....."colorful". Love the name for the bird!!
  17. here are some photos of my baby: tick-toc goes the all-too-slow clock!!!
  18. I was thinking the same thing. It's a great toy, diversion, etc., but you are reinforcing a potentially very bad behavior. As much as I like the idea, I think I'll stick with toys that amuse while not confusing the bird with 'real vs fake'. JMHO, though.
  19. When I went to pick out my first German Shepherd, I stepped into the puppy play-pen and one puppy ran right up to me and started licking my face enthusiastically!! I immediately told the breeder that this was my dog. Sadly, it was already taken....and the pup I DID go home with cried for a day and a half and was generally miserable. I thought I now had a puppy that wanted ANYONE but me and was settling down for a life with an aloof dog. That feeling lasted less than 2 days. Long story short, Max was a GREAT pet for almost 12 years and would have taken a bullet for me!! I agree, some pets choose their owners, but new family members that are social creatures will get along just fine even without the "YOU-You-YOU! I WANT YOU!" moment. The trust and camaraderie that build over time make us all inseparable!
  20. I've been lurking a lot lately and not posting, but the time seems right..... I spoke with my breeder yesterday and have later today we will have a deposit on a new baby CAG. The babies were born 3/1/12, so won't be available for take home until late June. I'm ok with that. Thankfully, the breeder is about 20 minutes away, so once the babies are old enough, I'll begin regular visits so that when the day comes to take her/him home, they will be familiar with me. No pictures yet, but the breeder will send weekly shots, so I'll post them as I get them. We haven't decided on a male or female. I don't think it matters much either way behaviorally, and am kind of hoping that the bird will pick ME when I go meet them for the first time. But needless to say, we're looking forward to welcoming our new CAG into our house of 1 German Shepherd, 2 toy poodles, 1 Cockatiel and 7 Zebra finches. Anyways....1000 thanks to ELVENKING for recommending a breeder that is well respected (and just happens to be right down the street!)!! More to follow.... Let TLW begin!
  21. Some of that footage look an awful lot like it was taken here in San Diego.
  22. YOU are evil!!! (I'll make that suggestion right away!! I love it!!!)
  23. I agree, Morana. I think that will be the largest portion of the lesson he learns from all this. But short of holding him down and shaving his head for him, I doubt it his hair is going anywhere. Hopefully, he learns something from all of this.
  24. Well, we wound up getting enough 'likes', but my nephew is calling FOUL because we brought in a bunch of strangers.....so he's drawing a line in the sand and declaring that he won't shave his head. I'm sure that my brother will have a nice, long talk with him about this, so while it looks like there won't be any "before and after pics", the point was made! Thanks to all who helped out!!
