  1. Thanks so much for sharing these beautiful photos! It looks like a fun day for all of you.
  2. What sort of parrot? I love learning new things!
  3. The intelligence and each individual personality of these creatures completely fascinates me. Thanks for sharing- I bet it was awesome to sit and listen to.
  4. This made my day.... and made me want to share this photo I took yesterday.

    Disney

Sam still hasn't decided to talk, which is fine, but he's cracking me up. Right now, I have on Disney songs for my MIL who is in the late stages of dementia. Well, this silly bird is going all out, making every noise and lots of whistling, along with the music. This is by far the most reaction we've had from him for any music. I guess someone played it for him in the past. I love to see him happy!
  6. Congrats on your new additon. Merlin is a beautiful guy, for sure. I'm so glad he found a good birdy home!
  7. He made me smile- thanks for sharing that :-)
  8. With Sam we have to introduce toys gradually. First I leave it within sight distance, off the cage. Then we hang it on the outside of the cage. Next it goes inside and he will still avoid it at all costs. Eventually, I hear a new noise and looks to see Sam playing with his new toy. This can take WEEKs for Sam, but the payoff is worth it. When I hear a new bell, or something being shredded, I'm a happy Mommy, knowing he's enjoying it.
  9. Congrats on your beautiful new baby. Enjoy your visitation- it's a great time to bond.
  10. I loved the way he kept looking towards you :-) Good luck with your finals.
  11. Just the fact that you were aware makes me feel like you are on the right track. I know I have to make a conscious effort to keep socializing Sam with other people and things. For us, it's trips to the bird store that have helped. Keep up the great work!

    Filbert

You all know how I have been bragging about my new beautiful Fibert. He died last night. I am heartbroken. They are performing a necropsy, however, all indications are kidney failure. I am so very sad, but want to get to the bottom of it and find out if it was given the kaytee formula that has been recalled. Just wanted to pass along my sad news and just remind others to be very careful with that formula..

    Filbert

He is adorable, isn't he? SSSHHHHHHHHH.... don't tell Sam I said that :-)
  14. I'm so glad they found you. How many did you take in? Good luck with them.
  15. Thanks so much for sharing this- what a great story! See how smart he was?
  16. Oh My! This is a very very special day. Today, Sam was on his perch, and reached up and KISSED me. WWWOOOOO HHHHHOOOOOO He kisses my husband every chance he can, but this is a first for us. Baby steps...... yeah!

    Filbert

Filbert is still on formula 3X a day, so it's estimated sometime in June. Until then, we take Sam with us everytime we visit. Sam also hangs out with a grey there, named Simon. Simon is about 10 months and he and Sam are really friendly towards each other. We've seen such positive changes in Sam since bringing him into the store to socialize with birds and lots of people.

    Filbert

We brought Sam to visit with Filbert at the bird store this weekend. He avoided a bit, but seemed OK with him. If the perch was longer, I'm sure there would've been more space between them, but I was happy with the interaction. Here are some photos :-)
  19. Awesome! I just looked it up. I wonder how many eggs for an omlet. :-)
  20. Yes, we live in a similar area. We have a duck house and a hen house, but during the day the girls are free to eat all the ticks and other gross bugs. My dogs are excellent at keep away the predators, especially the foxes. Most of them even venutre out in the snow. We have kept chickens for more than 10 years now- best eggs ever. Karen
  21. This cold, damp, gloomy day just got a lot better with a phone call from my Post Office. My baby chickens arrived and I just got them all home and settled. Happy day now! Does anyone else raise chickens? We have a flock of about 25, all free range. Karen

    Heartbroken

I am sorry for your loss :-(
  23. So far, so good. I moved the cage so it wasn't quite so close, and this morning I pulled the cover up a little. Sam was definitely watching me, so I talked to him while I was rearranging things and no screaming. He is avoiding the side of the cage that is closest to it though. I think I am going to put his favorite foraging toy (the purple one in my photo) on that side of the cage with a yummy, irresistable almond :-) Thanks for all the good advice.
  24. What a beautiful creature! I bet he's quite the crooner. Love them!
