  1. Thanks for the input. I just finished assembling an AE cage. I now know why the one I got has been discontinued (I got the one of the last ones). The design, despite being conceptually good on paper, is in fact horrible an near impossible to assemble. It was missing nuts that attach the feeder cup rings and the play top perches and I still haven't fully assembled the below cage storage because the parts don't fit together. a few parts have spots that are missing powder coating. Clearly not scratched off, but rather never coated in the first place. It's junk in my book but seeing as I'm 14 hours away from picking up my CAG, it will do for now.
  2. That's kind of what I had in mind. Whatever that stuff art teachers cover tables in and then let 3rd graders scribble on every square inch. http://www.dickblick.com/products/pacon-natural-kraft-paper/
  3. Sounds good thanks for the tips. Any thoughts on what kind of paper to use? Sorry I'm a sucker for details. Is there something specific I can go looking for that comes in a big roll at lets say a craft or hardware store? I'm hesitant to use news print.
  4. Well put. I don't mind goofy either. I guess it's more than just goofy, if you draw the wrong kind of attention the crazies in this city will walk right up to you and start up a conversation which can go wrong sometimes if they feel you're not interested in talking to them.
  5. I guess I'm thinking to myself, first, that's awesome, but second, do I want to go out in public with this on... If I walk through a park or down a street I'm going to pass 100 or so people or more and I'm not looking for attention. I just want go outside with my bird.
  6. I currently live in a major metro area and am within a short enough distance of family that my girlfriend and I go visit often. With our current bird we have one or two smaller cages we leave at the homes we frequent the most. We call it her country cage. It makes packing just what we need for a weekend, and heading off really easy. Now we're in the market for a similar cage but for our soon to arrive CAG. I want something bigger than one of those suitcase sized travel cages, but not so big that I can't pick it up and move it to a different room or place it in a car to go somewhere else. They'll need to spend a few hours at a time in it if we go out. What would be appropriate for a CAG?
  7. I've heard of the towel idea before. How long should I do that, or how do I know that he's ready for just a grate with out padding? Where can I get some reasonable priced towels to have enough to do this. I would imagine you'd want to change it daily. I would need at least 7 since I won't have time on a weekday to do wash. I currently have a large canvas drop that I used to drape something. Could that work? I could almost use sections of that once or only wash them once. I think ideally I'd want to use towels as the padding and something more disposable or lighter and easier to clean on top to catch the droppings. Any thoughts on that front?
  8. That's only 32x24. I just said I liked it because it was bigger than the standard 32 wide cage and that's not a play top. I had asked politely what you would buy that had a similar foot print. I wouldn't call that a fair comparison. I'm just trying to navigate an industry with little consumer guidance. I asked a direct question, I would appreciate a direct answer.
  9. A lot of you what you're saying is true. Especially regarding the psychology behind peoples research and buying habits. I never thought that out of stock indicated anything good about the cages or indicated a demand for it. I liked it because it had a wide foot print with a raised floor and an extra tier on the play top. Most of the raised cages stop at 32 inch width. I thought that would be good for a younger bird. Do you feel I was ripped off? This cage costs more than other similar spec cages, I'm sure it's similar in build quality and I'm paying dearly for the drawer unit below. I'm aware of that. For this model the prices were within 50 dollars everywhere I looked and this was the only company I could find that could get it to me in time. If you were to buy a something close to 40x30 in dimensions what would you buy and where? I posted a link to this cage before buying it and no one said anything. Oh well. Thanks for your opinion.
  10. I went with this cage which is somewhat new (to me atleast). I like that it's a wide footprint with a raised floor and I literally was ready to order the bigger version and they discontinued it. This site as of today still said "3 sizes" but I called to ask if I can get the 3rd biggest size which the page still mentioned but didn't have a link to order. So turns out it's DISCONTINUED. http://birdcages4less.com/page/B/PROD/SPECIALS/PA5673
  11. Cool pics, besides feeling a little silly with the shoulder carrier, do you feel like those wing nuts sticking out are going to poke your eye out?
  12. Great pics I'm especially like the 3rd one. Love seeing those full wing tips.
  13. I want to do 2-way video with my birds. Google hang out maybe.
  14. Thanks, but I was referring to the parrots in north america that got mentioned earlier.
  15. The circumstances you listed had me imagining a plucked bird in really bad shape, but I too was surprised to see how good he looks in the pictures. I'm new to greys but have been around other birds enough to know that building a relationship doesn't have to be so hands on. I sometimes leave treats for our bird a few inches away outside the "strike zone" and then back off and give them space to retrieve it. Then I just quietly talk to them. They're smart enough to know who provided the treat even if you're not placing it right in their beak. This hands off approach can help associate good things with you and builds trust.
  16. Thanks, I suspected that and was able to find the same thing for half the money on Amazon and Walmarts website. Bird cages 4 less seems like false advertising seeing that. However it turns out I'm going to billed for a carrier anyway when my bird gets shipped to me, but I'm going to see if this can be supplemented. http://www.amazon.com/Petmate-Deluxe-Kennel-Medium-Peacock/dp/B000A703QE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1345498303&sr=8-3&keywords=petmate+deluxe
  17. I have their travel version. Which is kind of ridiculous to call it that because it's built like a tank and weighs a ton. Anyway, I would buy one but 33x25 is the largest foot print they offer for these and I'd rather have something closer to 40 wide.
  18. Thanks. That's more of a travel cage that you could leave them in than a carrier. I'm focused on finding a good carrier that fits my needs, which does involve walking.
  19. Found this carrier I like. I like the top grate like our smaller one we already have for our current bird. Has anyone seen the same or similar for less elsewhere? Also there are two sizes, which should I get? Thanks in advanced. http://birdcages4less.com/page/B/PROD/Bird_Travel_Carriers/PA2302
  20. These are two cages I'm considering as a plan B. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Someone in our local club recommended this retailer. I like that these two don't have that ultra low bottom meant for macaws but still have a wider than usual footprint. http://www.birdcagesgalore.com/large_Parrot_Cages/P3828DX.html http://www.birdcagesgalore.com/Decorative_Bird_Cages/RY3628_Fan_Top_Cage.html
  21. I swear her sweet beak knows what's what even through a bottle.
  22. Do guinea pigs even make enough sound to mimic? Hows that even work?
