  1. PLEASE NOTE: This video was made in a controlled environment with 3 people standing by off camera watching every move to reduce any risk of our CAG hurting himself. I'm fully aware that an aluminum soda can isn't the safest thing in the world and would never allow any unsupervised time with such an object I was holding a soda in hand when Elwood climbed down my arm and went right for the pull tab. Seeing as he's 8 months old I didn't think he'd get it open. Within a 20 seconds he had broke then seal and shortly after he had opened it slightly. This video is his second attempt made with a camera rolling. Enjoy.
  2. How long have you have the attacks been going on? We went through a similar phase with our flighted female Senegal and didn't clip her, it past with time, about two to three months if I remember correctly. She's taken a few shots at the back of my neck but nothing like that since. I feel people turn to clipping too quickly for behavior modification but that's just my opinion.
  3. Is Arie flighted? I'd love to see your candid or action shots.
  4. yeah I'm not crazy about it either but you get used to it.
  5. If you copy the link in the regular web address the forum will proper embed it. [video=youtube;HWJ5yAbW-fw]
  6. Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately you can't use traditional HTML code to embed anything. You need to use the forum sanctioned embedding on the formatting area above the text field. I desperately want to see this. I'm not even sure you can embed a video that's hosted on Facebook. try just going to the page for the video and copying the link in the web address field.
  7. Since everyone liked the first little clip I tried to put together some more. Once again the missing secret ingredient was light. You need a lot of light to make it's way into our apartment and it was a overcast day. Played with Elwood and the camera a bit today and did some general play and also rewarded flight practice. He flies to me plenty based on whatever desire he has but I'm trying to get him to recall even when he's up high and doesn't want to. He also doesn't step up willingly sometimes. Anyway, I strung a few clips together I'm not as pleased with the hi-speed stuff this time. This camera is known to lock onto a bright spot in the frame and make everything else look much darker. This time I set up the camera at more of a distance rather than holding it. The first few regular speed clips were recorded hand-held with a very high quality. The hi speed (slo-mo) was done at a higher frame rate but was not stretched out as much. 120 reduced to 24, instead of 100 reduced to 15. I tested the still image shooting by sticking the lense throu the cage bars. One of the reasons I like this camera is it has built in timelapse or interval functions. I'd love to permanently mount one to the cage so I can see what he's up to when I'm gone. The wide angle, full sensor images capture what looks to be 80 percent of the cages interior.
  8. I don't need to, they do that all on their own! My senegal twice chewed up a wood toy with food coloring over her water dish and turned the water turquoise, she then proceeded to bath in this water resulting in part of her head being died a blueish turquoise color.
  9. MySafeBirdStore.com has many of the hagen products sold bulk by the pound. I sometimes order only a pound or two of something with a larger order just to try it. http://www.mysafebirdstore.com/product.cgi?group=4116&product=4130
  10. Thanks. I think they're ideal when handling parrots because they're easily mounted and less intimidating than something larger or flashier. Also the fixed wide angle lens easily captures objects up close that a more typical camera with a minimum focal distance of a foot or more might not capture in focus. The one I'm shooting with is the latest and greatest offering from GoPro. Your son most likely has an earlier model that at best can capture 60 frames-per-second (FPS), whereas what you're seeing here was captured at 100 FPS and cranked down to 15 FPS. The earlier models also were horrible (IMHO) shooting indoors with out very bright or natural light. I've worked on more than one TV show that shot with them and outdoor results were amazing, indoor results were barely usable in some cases. I bring that up because this video has surprisingly good low light response considering the frame rate and the available light, something only the latest version is capable of. Edit: Also the other thing I love is the external case that the camera is suppose to operate in. It is meant for action sports so if a beak gets a hold of it there is a chance that it will survive or worst case, the 40 dollar case will need replacing instead of the 200 to 400 dollar camera.
  11. Also does that apply to color timing or basic retouching?
  12. I'm kind of disappointed by the no photoshop part. Can there be a separate category for best photoshop? I understand why you would say no photoshop. Half the two bit computer users out there know how to cut something out and slather it on another photo, but some people can do photo-real work and create beautiful digital art.
  13. Congrats. I personally brought my fledgling home to a slightly better stocked cage and he stepped right into it and started playing. Hasn't really shown any fear for anything new I introduce him to, but he's still young. Goodluck.
  14. Got a new camera that does hi-speed video recording. I'm going to make more attempts to capture things in better light during the day, but this was my first attempt and considering the low lighting conditions I'm pretty happy and looking forward to getting him flying in full sunlight at some point.
  15. Go Rocky! A pizza crust would be flight worthy endeavor in our home as well. Then again so is, going into the kitchen, going anywhere near the treat drawer... change of location. They're flighted, and know it!
  16. If you're interested in a flighted bird I got an excellent un clipped fledgling from a woman in Texas that I highly recommend.
  17. Have you looked into any rescue organizations? I was very conflicted about putting my fledgling through a domestic flight here in the US. I'd never put a bird through anything longer let alone some sort of international flight that might require quarantining. If it's that impossible to find I would consider another species.
  18. Welcome. I took about two years as well before I got mine. Looking forward to hearing what you have to share.
  19. Welcome. Keep reading. There is a lot of info out there and not all of it reinforces the last thing you read. I was a non-grey user on here for two years off and on before I actually got mine. There is no reason to rush into a lifelong commitment like this.
  20. I just created a new post and had to switch to Firefox to finish it. I think it's a browser issue.
  21. People on Amazon seem to find this Winix air filter a better "bang for your buck" over the rabbit air filters. http://www.amazon.com/Winix-WAC9500-Ultimate-PlasmaWave-Technology/dp/B004VGIBZK/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top I've read many of the opinions on here. I know; they're just big fans with a bunch of socks packed on top. I get that. However I live in a city near some major construction and will surely benefit from such a device no matter what fan and fluffy combination I buy. I mainly want to reduce the dust in the space for both human and avian benefit. http://www.amazon.com/Filtrete-Ultra-Clean-Purifier-FAP02-RS/dp/B000I4NG22/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1354041562&sr=1-2&keywords=filtrete+air+filters I already have one of these 3M filtrete models in my bedroom. Which seems to help keep the dust down. The smaller model I could afford two of. They are small enough that I could place one on either side of our main living space. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
  22. I would definitely troubleshoot any problems you have here by trying it in firefox. Despite chromes increasing popularity Firefox and Internet Explorer are still the typical test platforms for websites.
  23. As much as I love this forum. I have issues just posting sometimes in Google Chrome browser and have to switch to firefox. I too copy anything I'm doing before I post it, or send a PM.
  24. I wish I had a Gus. It's great you took him in. Love hearing that he isn't completely traumatized from being cage bound that long.
