  1. i know i havent join the conversations around here a lot, most of you probably never heard of me:) little update on jack he expanded his vocabulary nowadays. he now says moooooooooooom and give me a kiss, kiss kiss. i ll try to record him speaking you may find it funny to hear a bird speaking in turkish he also bonded closely with me and became more aggresive to my girlfriend. he used to scream at my german shepherd maya but he get used to her(as you can see in my avatar picture) but his new source fear is my newly adopted 3 years old solid black german shepherd named UZI(name is gun name which i wouldnt give to a dog but his first owner gave it). this time he is really scared of this black giant but i hope jack will accept the formerly abused new member of our family. i will also post a picture of my german shepherd. i know this isnt the right topic to talk about other pet but i want to give some information about him too. but he is a dog that was abused by some sick minded uncertified trainers trying to teach him to pass a schutzund(a dog sport based on obedience, tracking and protection) exam. he was saved by my friend a veterinary doctor and probably the best dog trainer in Turkey(he turned a mixed breed shelter dog to a certified search and rescue dog also 2 time skyhoundz european frisbee dog championship winner with his border collie) and was trained as a tumor detector(93% succes rate) in a state sponsored project.after the project was halted my friend decided to give UZI to a person who can accept him as a indoor dog.(he owns 12 dogs from various working breeds,28 mixed breed shelter dogs that lives in his kennel and 3 cats in his home so he really didnt have a place for another dog) and luckily that was me. because he was abused he is very sensitive and thrives for attention and very tolerant of our other dogs including 3 pound yorkie. it feels good to give him the proper life he deserved very much from the beginning of his life. anyway thats what is up with the JACK and his family. it has been been a long thread sorry if i bored you.
  2. after receiving your comments about out of the cage time i bought jack a playstand.now he is on it when i at home and awake. he really enjoys it and also it was a very good deal it was around $140
  3. is ana grey poop trained?or you are just like me cleaning after them all the time?
  4. thanks for the inputs. i am not gonna leave him unattended when i am not around he will be in his cage
  5. i let jack out for 2 hours a day. but i am planning to leave him on playstand in morning and put him back to cage when i go to sleep. will that effect his tameness and make him loose his interest in me?
  6. i also cant convince jack to eat from the harrisons in addition to his kiki seed mix, veggies and fruits. harrisons is usda certified organic does it also contain artificial ingredients?
  7. what kind of travel cage can be used for macaws?i imagine if it were to be enough tall to fit his long tail how would you fit the cage in backseat? i ve never seen a travel cage for a macaw on bird supply stores. is there online store that sells them? i am asking these because i am planning for greenwing too
  8. i dont own two greys but i know that if you keep them in same cage they will be extremely hard to tame. you should get them a seperate cage
  9. i am very jealous all i can think about nowadays is a baby greenwing macaw. how about wilma ?
  10. in my country too there is only dried cranberries (actually there is not even a turkish word for cranberries) but jack didnt even touched them which made me sad because i heard that cranberry is very rich in antioxidants
  11. i was also ripped by womach brothers couple of websites lead me to their taming and training dvds and it was disappointing they show already trained birds show what to do for like 30 seconds and move to next and also for 2 months they charged me extra 40 bucks saying i choosed to enroll in some kind of monthly maintenance program. someone should make it known to potential buyers that womach s are scammers
  12. birdtricks is kind of a scam basically they show you what they can do with already trained birds
  13. pigeon poop can be deadly not parrot poop
  14. thanks for the sharings i want a large a macaw really badly but my logic stops me i have two puppies one grey i am a college student i just dont have the time or setting to handle a large macaw. but with hahn i think it would be easier for me to take care of him/her
  15. good i ve been thinking adding to my flock but a large macaw scares me because of noise and travel problems. do you know how people with large macaw handle their bird like putting them in travel cages to go someplace else ?
  16. i think its not true but someone told me that a hahns macaw can be loud as a big macaw. is this true?
  17. Hi everyone in every piece of info i read on greys it says they vocalize 2 times a day in the sunrise and the sunset. Mine is different. Jack starts vocalizing when i wake up and stops when i go to sleep. He gives short breaks but most of time when i am in the same room with him he is vocal. In our summer home he was outside during the day and again he was starting in the sunset and stopped at sundown. Is being vocal all the time normal?
  18. Good news his mouth is dry now no drooling
  19. I also think he is reaching maturity he is acting aggresively for couple of days now. He did regurgiating once and it wasnt like this. He doesnt make sounds like panting he just make his usual sounds
  20. Thanks for the advice jayd but no vet in my country are educated about diagnosing parrot diseases He just turned 3 appears to be molting under his wings can this be related
  21. Sadly i m not doing anything because i cant do anything except ask you guys no one in my country is trained to diagnose jacks situation. Do any of you know any avian vet that would answer me by email about jacks condition?
  22. Judy unfortunately the thing is vets in turkey arent trained about health of parrots only avian they know about is chicken etc. Some dont even know what an african grey is. There is this microbiology expert doctor smthing interested in parrots who claims to make medicine for parrots i am gonna contact him monday but i dont trust him cause he claims that he reduce the amount of active ingredients in human medicine to treat parrots which didnt seem like the right thing.. It is hard to accept but it looks like there is nothing to do except pray that jacks immune system treat the disease
  23. hi everyone. jack seems ok but a sticky saliva is coming to our hand from his mouth when when we touch his beak. there is no avian vet in my country and a few vet who understands parrots but i couldnt find one in my city so taking to vet is not an option. can anybody understand whats going on with jack and help me
