  1. Thank you very much. You have so much knowledge im so glad you have accepted me as a friend, i cant wait to learn more and more and then start all over again when i become a parront :)

  2. Do you think it would be best to get the parrot in the holidays (6 weeks off) then i can build up time away over that time, or do you think its better to just go straight into routine?
  3. Thanks, took my snake to the vets today and they see parrots too so i know i have a good vet when i get him/her. Im going to get a nice big cage so he/she has pleanty room in the day and then we will have perches around the house for when we are home. Decided im going to have a baking day and do some of the recipies on the website and will try and prep at night so i can spend more time in the morning playing.
  4. Thats great thanks I get up at 6.30am but dont leave for work till 8am so we can have time then to have breakfast etc. Then im always back by 5 so he/she can be out all night from then on and like u said weekends im home all day apart from nipping places. I will make sure he/she gets pleanty of food and toys and i will leave the channels on (I can imagine childrens TV is funny) Im think ill be ready in about a year which will give me pleanty of reading and learning time, plus time to make sure i have EVERYTHING LOL
  5. Hello Im considering getting an african gray but im a little worried that i work full time, im a teacher so even though i get good hols every term i will be out of the house from 8-4/5 5 days a week. My partner will be home between this and prob can let the gray out of its cage but if not will it be ok in its cage from 8am till 4/5PM? Im sure some of you on here must have full time jobs, just wondered how you worked it? Thanks Clare
  6. Thanks alot, i will defo get in touch with them, think ill be ready in a year as i dont want to rush into things and i want pleanty of time to read up - There is loads to learn
  7. aw thanks for that, i love reading about how they all have their own little personalities, im making myself a book up of things id like to do when i get my gray. That way i will always have a quick reference and not have to trail back through posts Does anyone have any goos books on grays?
  8. Thanks for replying I didnt think spraying would be enough as their feathers are waterproof so how does it reach the skin? Also witht he shower does the bird attually sit in the shower or just get the steam/mist? (You might all think im realy stupid now LOL)
  9. Hello I have read on alot of posts about people bathing their parrots, can you please tell me how you do this? I have not got an african gray yet and am doing my research ready to get one in about a year i think. Anyway i have seen people taking about taking them into to shower with them or bathing in a sink? Also can anyone recomend a good book for me to read? Thanks Clare
  10. What a lovely video, it just mades me want one even more. I cant wait to share experiences with my baby one day Thank you for a wonderful video

  13. Thank you all for your kind welcomes, im hoping that the gray I get when ready will join in our plans, but if not then so be it. To be honest its more for me anyway LOL
  14. Hello Im new to the forum and am wondering if anyone on here knows of any good breeders or rescues in the lancashire area Thanks Clare
  15. my new kitchen will run the length of the house, so was going to put him/her at one end whilst kitchen will be at the other but may put in dining room instead. Will have to have a think
  16. Thanks for your replies, i think the cage in the kitchen wont only be a sleeping cage but i think this is where my AG will sleep, that way if we have friends round till late its sleep wont be disturbed
  17. Thanks for that, the family seem to be between the front room and kitchen, my kitchen is going to be very long when we have the extension so i think i may put the main cage (sleeping cage) in there and a stand and cage in the front room so that he/she can be where ever we are, but have some peace at night. Do your grays go to bed when you do or do they have a set bed time? Thanks Clare
  18. Thank you so much, I have only been reading less then an hour and have learnt things already
  19. Hope this is the right section, Where do all your birds live (in the house i mean), do they have a room to themselves or are they in peoples front rooms? Is it better to have them in a busy or quiet place? near a window or not etc? Sorry for all the questions, im new LOL
  20. to be honest im not sure yet, we do rescue animals at the mo, (just had to put in for an extension LOL) but i need to find out more about african grays before I decide. Id love to rescue but I dont know if i would be better getting experience with a baby gray first so i can learn with a bird that has not had any other issues before coming to me. I wouldnt like to make a mistake with any bird but esp not with a bird who is going to find it hard to trust me anyway. Plus need to find people, breeders, rescues near me. As id want to do pleanty of visits before bringing them home.
  21. Hi, Im new here and dont own a african gray yet but am looking into it
  22. Fantastic thread - just what i needed to know as im looking into getting a baby african gray.
  23. Thank you so much for your kind reply, we use hand sanitiser after handleing all our animals before we pick another up so this would be nothing different for. will the african gray be ok with hand sanitiser gell? If not we will just use good old fairy
  24. Hi Im new here and new to birds, I have a house full at the mo though. I have a mixture of animals and reptiles. As i am a primary school teacher me and my partner are looking into setting up a buisness going around schools doing animal talks and teaching children how to look after and respect animals, we would like to introduce the african gray into this if it suited the animal.
