  1. He is so cute..I am glad the Evil Bird in the blinds is working. My grandfather used to put a fake owl near his garden to ward of rabbits. I think (if i remember correctly) it worked well.

  5. Ok, we will cover that area up. Thanks so much for your help everyone. I kinda thought she was nesting, but wanted to make sure.
  6. she is 16, we have had her less than a month. Another thing she is doing ALL THE TIME is regurgitating...when nobody is around her. We can be all the way across the room and she is on her perch regurgitating by herself.
  7. Kihei has begun to climb off of her cage when it is open, the floor and she goes to a particular corner of the living room and pulls the carpet out, making a little pile of the carpet fragments. Obviously this is isn't ok. So when I approach her to move her out of the corner she puffs out her feathers and literally charges me. Very aggressively. Also when inside her cage she is all of a sudden shredding her newspaper on the bottom her cage into tiny tiny little shreds and making a little pile of the paper. The problem is, is that we can't leave her cage door open anymore and allow her free time because she is just going straight to that corner of the living room and shredding carpet and getting incredibly aggressive with us..I want her to have free time but can’t allow her to get aggressive with us. Any suggestions? Is this behavior temporary..like a heat cycle? She has just started doing this in the last week.
  8. This was a total bummer to me...candles are my favorite thing in the world. Next to chocolate. And my teflon cookware. And my avacados. LOL...if only my parrot was just allergic to things I WANT to get rid of..like husbands, and bills, and bosses.
  9. i told my hubby about your aviary kind of with a "hint hint" tone....he just looked at me blankly and wandered off muttering something about the NBA finals being on TV. I guess if I want one like yours im going to have to do it myself too.
  10. can you shift your weight as your offering your hand..to kind of re-balance him so he is distracted and has to step on a more secure footing (your hand)....maybe then he won't have a chance to bite.
  11. What an amazing story...That would be haunting at first but what an amazing way to remember someone. Love it!

    Biting!

kihei is the same way...reaching into her cage is a no-no for her, so I have just stopped doing it all together. I just sit outside of her cage and talk to her and ask her "come out and play" hoping to mark her actually coming out of her cage with that phrase. When she does come out and stand on top she is much much more receptive to having contact. I think because inside the cage, she is confined and a long unfamiliar arm reaching in toward her propably makes her feel that she has nowhere to go if she wants to flee, whereas on top of the cage, if she decides she doesnt want to step up she knows she can flee much easier if she needs to. Just an animal of prey instinct I would venture to guess.
  20. I see your "bird shirt" in the first photo, made me laugh out loud.
