I have had my parrot for about 1 month. Still not quite sure about how to reward her for good behaviors (like stepping up, stepping down, flying to me). She is very young still, 4 months... loves head scratches but doesnt seem to care for most treats. Pine nuts are mostly ignored. Usually I just follow up good behaviors with some very enthusiastic "good girl!" praises and that seems to make her happy. Does this seem like a good route? Anyone with ideas on what else I could also try, I would love to hear suggestions or criticism. thanks!

hehe.. So I went to the bird fair last week and met a woman who has had 2 Greys for 22 and 15 years each. She was telling me about her Macaw that is trained to poop on command over the trash can when she says "poop, poop". She then told me about her older Grey's sense of humor.... whenever company would come over and hold the Macaw, guess who would start yelling "poop, poop"?... lol, the Grey of course.. I thought that was quite hilarious.

Ha! I laughed when I read this title, that is exactly what I've been saying to little Sylvee for the past month. She is very calm and happy to sit on my shoulder and does not normally pay any attention to my glasses at all. The only time she goes for my glasses is when I start giving her kisses on her chest and under her wings, then she immediatley grabs the nose of my glasses, pulls them off my face and drops them to the ground.. LOL. I honestly believe she does this to annoy me because I think the kisses annoy her. Who knows? =)

Of course he is going to be flying everywhere.....he is a bird, what did you expect? You need to make your house bird safe.. thank God that he didn't fly onto a hot stove, that would have been very irresponsible of you.

LOL, Sylvee did the exact same thing.. when I finished sweeping up her cage, as soon as she spotted the yellow bristles of the broom she started growling something terrible. O_O

dw, she is almost 3.5 months old.

I bought a small pack for about 7 or 8$... Sylvee doesn't seem to like them at all. lol I was a little bit disappointed. =/

Yes, awesome store.. not just a pet store, but a Parrot Store.

Little Sylvee is finally home after months of waiting. And I've only been bit like 4 times (the ones that made me bleed)... and I'm missing about 1/3 of my right thumb's cuticle.. that kind of hurt X_X LOL Seriously though, after less than 2 days (which I thought was amazing) she is already stepping up and used to me... she only starts to squawk when acquaintances move towards her just a little bit too fast. She'll tolerate me and, after a time, all my family to touch her almost anywhere. step ups have been wonderful. Spray showers have been great, the shop where I bought her had daily showers for the birds and I can tell Sylvee doesn't mind too much. She has been weaned very well I can tell, she doesn't favor the roudybush pellets, but eats equally between the pellets and her nut/fruit mix..and she loves to try any fresh veggies that I offer her.. green beans being her most favorite so far. She doesn't make much noise yet, just the occassional small "bark" noise, some tiny peeps and some gurgling-alien language that sounds like she is trying to talk (she is not even 3.5 months old yet, so that gets me excited. hopefully an early talker!) anyway, here is just a few pictures I have of the day I picked her up, and on the ride home.... my dad crouched next to Rosebud and Sylvia(closest to camera). they were both very cranky and intimidating that morning! I couldn't shake the idea in my head "What have I got my self into?!" Here is Sylvee starting to get into her food on the long ride home .. 7 hours And here she is when she finally took interest in her keys! that was a big moment for me lol :rolleyes: I will have some more pictures later when I have the time! I can't wait to get some better ones of her at home being a cutie.. I definitely need some with her holding some green beans chompin' down, she loves those.. and she is super adorable. enjoy

wow, thanks everyone for the warm welcomes! danmcq, I'm glad you liked the website... as soon as I found the place i knew that's where I wanted to buy my Grey. I can tell she really takes care of her birds.. i'm personally very excited to see the nursery and playgrounds. haha. only about 28 hours til I leave on my road trip! >_>

jilly and jacarual, thanks for the welcome! I have finally taken the "leap" as you call it after years of wanting to be the owner of a Grey. I almost can't believe it's really happening. I am so excited and nervous that it's almost making me sick to think about it LOL.... I can't wait. cheers

Thank you for the welcome Joolesgreyuk. AFAIK, this store breeds and raises all sorts of different parrots. They have their own nursery and have been doing it for over 20 years (husband and wife). It took me what seems like FOREVER to find a place that I was comfortable with their methods, lol. I can't wait to bring her home.

Hi! Rawley here.. 3 days away from going to pick up my CAG Sylvia. I haven't met her yet, as she is over 450 miles away in Ohio (I live in Virginia, USA) so I am super excited and also very nervous. :rolleyes: In my avatar is one picture of her, I believe she is the one facing us with the tag on her left foot.
