Bad Romance is on Leo's playlist. Wife hates the video but I'm not too opposed to Lady Gaga running about in a thong while me and Leo get our groove on lol
-
as a side note, Willow has a vicious growl that she reserves for the vacuum cleaner.
-
You nailed it. That exact sound means "no." Both my greys make that cry when they don't want something. And parrot is a really tough language
-
I love the names you gave them! What stands out is that you put such thought into it. It's indicative of the fact that you're a great parront

Leo does it when there's music on. I have him on my finger and bob my head to the beat (see: What is Love! lol) [video=youtube;-6g-Vh4vcD0]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6g-Vh4vcD0

Entertaining, stimulating, and challenging a Grey

OH! I almost forgot their favorite toy ever: a lacrosse ball. They only play with it about once a week but holy cow they just go crazy on that thing when the mood hits them. Makes for some great video, too This was made before we knew Leo was a boy: -

it's so hit or miss, and it really depends on their mood. My advice: keep it simple and save yourself $$ by not buying expensive "bird" toys. Couple things that work for our flock: popcorn. Get a package of about 50 small brown paper bags and some corn kernals. handful of those and 2 minutes in the microwave. Tie the bag up with some sissal rope/string in the cage and you just got 20 minutes of play time Straws. Get straws, cut them in half, punch them through apples, grapes and bananas. hard plastic, shiny beads on sissal rope. they love them. just a couple hints -
Our green cheeks: Rusty has a very red belly, so it fit, Dusty, his buddy, because it rhymed! Though we refer to the pair as "the pickles" cuz they're mostly green They both have extensive vocabularies and always say "PICKLES!" or "Pickles are CUTE!" when you approach them. they're adorable until you get within beak range. Merlin and Maddox, I have no idea why we named them that it was just kinda a spur of the moment thing, but they stuck. Chilly was named that because she's so calm... chillin' Leo was Cleo until the DNA test, so we just shortened it up a little. Willow just seemed... right? Funny how it all happens.

I'm so sorry. Losing a little one is enough to just break your heart. I'll say a prayer for the little angel.

I LOL'd through that entire post. Sounds like Mr. Cosmo just found out who's boss

It seems that something certainly caused her a significant level of stress. As long as you're sure that she's healthy and there isn't and underlying pain issue with her wings (it's very important that you rule that out straight away), I can only recommend that you start from square one again with her. Be gentle, go slow. As many folks here can attest (me included), when a fid goes through any trauma it's a long trip back to "normal." Lots of love and patience. Try not to be frustrated, I know it's tough. Best wishes and please keep us updated.

What happens is there's one location where they perch during the day. She's about 6 inches higher on the perch and reaches down to preen him (preen = rip the living crap out of the back of his head). He just goes all googley-eyed and couldn't be happier as she gives him a haircut lol They do share a cage, but most of the damage occurs when they're out.

Lovebirds. sheesh. Reminds me of the scene from the Monty Python movie with the killer rabbit.

Willow, our female is absolutely tearing Leo up. She's ripping feathers out of his head at a break-neck pace and I don't know what to do about it. Here's Leo:

Thanks to you all for your prayers and healing thoughts. Chilly is a tough little fighter and I'm certain she's going to be with us for a long, long time.

I think this is the last update here. She's interacting with her cage mates, trying to get her wings back, mauling pellet bowls and in general has begun returning to the healthy bird she was 6 months ago. She's still about 10g underweight but she doesn't appear to be in discomfort anymore and comes out of the cage to wreak havoc with her buddies like nothing is wrong. I think we made it through the storm. Best Christmas present, ever. Life wins. This time.

Leo and Willow go through daily phases, and reading their body language is paramount to keeping my flesh un-torn. They're fine in the early morning and need to stretch their wings. Mid-day, they're approachable but you have to also exhibit the correct approach toward them. In the evenings, they're snuggle monsters but you have to be in the right environment (i.e. place in the house, chair, say the right things, use the correct body language toward them) My wife, who doesn't spend as much time with our greys as I do, often gets bit because she fails to read their mood. I LOL and she gets mad. It's a daily occurrence I'll add that in the two short years I've had with Leo and Willow, They've never bitten me. They've "beaked" to tell me no, but never bitten. In contrast to our two little buzzsaws (green cheeked conures) who have nearly sent me to the ER on more than a few occasions.

I totally agree. If he needs a home and you're willing to provide the care for a grey, take him. It's like children: you can't pick the kind of person they are but you be the best parent you can. In this case: parront. If I'd have waited for magic butterflies to come down from heaven every time I adopted a bird... well... yeah. Not happening.

Welcome to you and Georgie. He's beautiful

And here's the sun conure flock. Bedtime. 10 minutes ago. Ok it's not the most revealing pic, but Chilly's tail is on the left and maddox is sleeping on top of merlin on the right. lol.
-
It's all worth it. Here's a pic we took of her on Christmas eve. She's actually doing much better now and in this picture she was just starting her recovery.

More update. Sorry it's been a while, holidays and all that. Chilly went to the vet today for another beak trim because she's doing SO GOOD! 90g dry, 92-96g during the day. She's trying to fly again, interacting with her cage buddies, eating pellets, and generally starting to try to make a nuisance of herself which is WONDERFUL! I'm having to basically re-wean her off the baby food, but just this morning she attacked an apple slice and I nearly cried as I witnessed it. Hand feedings, every 2 hours, 24 hours a day for 45 days makes you a bit punch drunk, but it's all worth it I'm convinced it's not PDD, as is the vet that did the beak trim today (when she pooped on him... we both examined the poop as if it might contain a precious metal). I think she's a tough girl, and I'm glad I was there for her. Not to toot my own horn, but she's a Pet-Co bird so I shudder at what her fate might have been...
-
Update: Chilly is a whole new bird. She's playing with toys, eating great, rifling through her pellet bowl like it was a Christmas present. She took a bath on her own yesterday, is preening actively AND... for the first time in 4 months she's relaxing with 1 foot up. She's still underweight by about 10g, but it looks like we're making progress. Best Christmas gift ever.

Buffy, I feel for you. Had that been me I don't know if I could have left without him. Wife would have killed me, but I'm pretty susceptible to that sort of thing and would have folded like warm laundry.
