  1. Building a new pathway with each bird, the personalities and the preferences along with the fears and the fun.
  2. Hubby's photos & slo-mo video in this article from the Natural History Museum in Houston Tx. http://blog.hmns.org/2014/09/mean-green-flying-machines-the-hummingbirds-are-here/
  3. Part of building trust with such a young is being able to give her those comfort feedings when she wants them. She will let you know when she is ready to move on.
  4. [h=4]New study elucidates the social world of parrots[/h] Science has learned a great deal about complex social behavior by studying nonhuman mammals and primates, but parrots might have something to teach too. http://phys.org/news/2014-09-elucidates-social-world-parrots.html
  5. Glad you found your way back here, lovely Grey.
  6. You can sprout for her, sprouts have some wonderful nutrients that can promote good health. I am not a pellet fan and it may help to know that Greys are sight feeders meaning they eat what they are used to seeing as food. You have to introduce new foods over and over agin before they look familiar. You can eat them in front of her making those yummy lip smacking sounds and she may be more willing to try what you enjoy.
  7. Good neighbors can make a difference, bless them.
  8. What brats the Ins. companies can be don't we have some kind of go between that can assist with the settlement? The thieves are the root problem and from what I have been told the part they stole is usually sold to scrap metal yards as it contains Platinum so worth the theft. You would think the scrap yards would have some suspicions when the same folks keep showing up with the catalytic converters on a frequent basis. I think our state laws make the scrap people take info & photograph all sellers they buy from should give police a staring point.
  9. If you are uncomfortable with this decision you can always ask for another opinion. If her organs are being crowded she will become uncomfortable and most likely stress her body's abilities to function normally. If this were my birdy buddy I would want to know what the issue is and a biopsy or removal of the mass would give you some answers. This is your decision and it is never easy to have deal with health issues in any family member furred feathered or humans. What ever you decide most of us will support your decision.
  10. Poor Pat not fun being a chew toy for a Too. they are just Too smart and Too excitable sometimes. It sounds like you have lots of work ahead redoing cages and healing fingers.
  11. Little Alien lifeforms plotting to take over the world, one home at a time.
  12. It is good to know that those head rubs are becoming important to her, that shows trust and rewards your understanding her need for a slow and cautious approach.
  13. Well she was living in an area near a pair of Goffins in her last residence...may have picked up some tips on break outs. My U2 Harry was just as good he and hubby had an engineering competition that lasted about a year before hubby won that contest. He drilled holes in the cage frame inserted eye screws, ran a threaded rod through that with giant washers followed by wing nuts. A little challenging to feed and water but very effective.
  14. [h=1]Cockatoos teach each other tool-making tricks[/h] 3 September 2014 Last updated at 00:12 BST Goffin cockatoos have shown an impressive ability to learn from one another how to use and even how to make tools. A team of researchers has discovered that the birds emulate tool-making tricks when they are demonstrated to them by another bird. In this clip, the "innovator" bird, named Figaro, demonstrates to another caged bird how to make and use a food retrieving stick. In the second scene, the bird that has seen the demonstration emulates Figaro's skills. 15. Love the books but do not have access to the shows as we choose not to pay for cable TV, Diana Gabaldon is a wonderful writer really brings those characters to life. The colors, sounds and actions bring out the readers emotions. I am certain the flock would pick up some brogue.
  16. Poor baby so mistreated, (loved) no pouting is always a win. Lets see how long it takes him to figure out the mirror works both ways.
  17. Inara expects obedience anything less requires correction.
  18. Love getting the pictures and stories as they grow such fun!
  19. Never feel stupid for doing a good thing, getting correct information out there is very important!
  20. Looking good but do remember to wire or cement under the cage to avoid dig ins or outs.
  21. Never a dull moment, I am sure the flock will recover from having their serving staff take a few days for them themselves on occasion. Don't know that I would tell them you have been interacting with another flock though, suggest keeping that to yourselves. They can think getting those new cages for them were your reason for being out. All the adult Hawkheads I have met have been fierce, beautiful and fierce.
