1. EEEk too close to home and they must be so worried about their bird and grieving for their dog as well, heart breaking especially this time of year. Door or window entry?

Advice

Here is my recipe I make for the local Exotic Bird sanctuary on weekends, it freezes well and you can make it as a loaf or muffins. I start with a can of Coconut juice (fresh works), soak some pelleted food of your choice 1/4 to 1/2 cup, Quinona about 1/4 cup, grind up some flax seeds and add, then add eggs (no shell)cornmeal (organic)1 cup, chop up broccoli, bell pepper (any color) kale, carrots, sweet potato, apple or apple sauce unsweetened, shredded unsweetened coconut, pine nuts, chopped walnuts, pistacios (unsalted) and or almonds, then I add either mango or papaya chopped up some ginger, cinnamon and red pepper for flavor. Use what ever fresh organic fruits and veggies are available in your area. Chop small and it will be lumpy and thick you can add some yogurt to thin it enough to pour into pan or muffin tins. Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes if in a thick pan it will take longer if in tiny muffin pans it might take less time. Very complete nutrition and a lot of fun to make I use Pomegranate and cranberries when available. You could even add a little shredded cheese for flavor. Sad

Tough happening for you but it has given you the chance to have some experience and the former owner found out more about her relationship with Ipo as well. There is always another bird trying to find a home and the right one will need you soon, Mother Nature abhors a vacuum and finds a way to fill that void.
5. Beautiful picture and appreciate your good wishes so back at you in a Holiday way!
6. More bird "owners"need to be aware of this problem especially as many of the cages have a lead type pain from China. Caution is required. Good informationa nd it should make a difference.
7. Did any of you see this story and the photos? all-sky cameras has photographed a never before seen phenomenon: colliding auroras that produce explosions of light. The must-see images have solved a long-standing mystery of Northern Lights. Get the full story from Science@NASA.
8. Love this idea it might also serve as a naming source for some new birds.

Post edited by: Greywings, at: 2009/12/18 17:30
9. He knows how to get ehat he wants, my Elanora Fred does that as well. Pookie just want to be served.
10. I am thinking that when she is a brat just cage her for a few minutes with out comment just remove her from her focus. Let her back out after 5 minutes and return her when she is a brat, smart girl she can learn what behaviors to avoid or at least become sneakier about. You might want to check out Barbara Heidenrich's (spelling?)books and website to help overcome some of these issues.
11. Excellent link thank you for posting it.
12. Smart little buddy you have there and so wonderful to hear that his plucking has reduced as well.
13. My other concern is that sometimes birds on an all pellet diet can be overvitaminized causing other health issues. It is a good thing to offer a varied diet for health and to avoid them not eating if there is a supply problem with what they are used to getting. These birds are sight feeders and will eat what they are used to seeing in their dishes it does take some time and some work to expand their culinary horizons.
14. Pookie is helping us by making her personal adjustments to the crown molding and the Sheet rock. We keep moving her cage further and further back from the wall.
15. Rest well we are in your corner, you are right it is hard to save them when they start going downhill-very trying times.
16. Nice I had no idea we could do that! We have the power to do a little good.
17. That is a heart warmer for sure. Love those little feathered fluff balls.
18. What is her age? There are many birds who get nesty this time of year, my male Umbie loves to keep a "egg" in a cardboard box to tenderly care for. I have friends whose birds sit on whiffle balls, wooden blocks or just a small soft toy. I think it may satisfy that need to care for something small in the reproductive times of year. Just monitor her diet and droppings if they remain normal then I wouldn't worry.
19. How wonderful things are turning around, glad you are sending in the blood as well just to be certain. It is frightening when things go sour and do so very quickly. You just never know when you bring in a new factor what can go wonky. Keep us informed with your updates as they progress looking forward to more good news.
20. Keep offering a variety and let him see you eating and enjoying some of those same foods. Make those Umm yummy sounds while eating or pretending to eat them. They are sight feeders so will eat what ever he is used to seeing as food he will have to learn what new foods are safe by watching you.
21. Good work with the block solution. Do her eyes react to different light levels? Do you have a penlight type flash light to check for pupil reaction?
22. What changed? What toys did you put in the cage? Did you use any cleansers in the water? how old is Buster and where was he when his cage was being washed? Is it very dark and cloudy today?
23. Time out in jail should only be a few minutes in duration, they are not like people or dogs. A quick response with no interaction just quietly to the cage and ignore, 5-to 10 minutes later try again. If you think the attacks are kitchen related then avoid the kitchen, avoid shoulder and head perching as well. the best thing to do is to avoid those situations where bites occur. Success breeds success bites promote more bites so the best thing is to avoid those situations leading to the bite.
24. Apillow case works fine or a cat/dog carrier you can drill hole and attach a perch near the floor level of the carrier and place a towel or newspaper to collect droppings.
