I will second your answer, my entire flock will respond if they hear the dogs or my elderly Mother moving around at night. Pookie my CAG has the quietest response-the wing flutter. The Too's are much louder. They do need that 10-12 hours of dark time to avoid the grumpies but it is my observation that they do sleep lightly more of the time and heavier a smaller portion of that. Maybe they vary a bit form bird to bird on their individual needs..

Dr Gary Harwell DVM is in the Hobby Airport area he is the Vet I use and is both Avian and Zoo certified. Clinic is not imposing but he saved a Molluccan with a badly infected leg bone who was near death.

From what I have observed they often imitate the most expressive or most dramatic voices and sounds.

Mine will not eat it, they would rather starve first. Fresh foods are what they get now with some cooked foods,home made birdy bread and a balance seed mix.

Beautiful! Great story as well, it is always best if the bird is allowed to do the choosing.

It took courage to share that story, the flip side is that maybe some one will take the lesson offered and keep their own birds safer because of what happened. Hope Rikki heals quickly and do let us all know how she is doing. What a scare!

Good for you and even better for her. They are a reserved bird so do not rush the relationship. Wonderful to hear she is receiving more baths that will go a long way towards helping her feather condition. It would be good to know what her diet is presently, fresh veggies and some fruit can do her some good as well. Giving her lots to do like shredder toys and paper to tear will be good for her as well but go slow on introducing new things to her cage you don't ant to frighten her. What are your other behavioral concerns?

eek can you get an Avian Veterinarian by phone? What heavy metals do you suspect he might have been exposed to? Can you get a little Gatorade or Pedialyte in to him? I do know some of the Vets over here recommend P-nut butter and a non iron oatmeal mixed together to help bind the metal fragments and pass them out of his system. If he had rotten fruit in his cage do please keep an eye on his droppings and his breathing. If he inhaled any mold spores he could develop some nasty breathing issues later. So nice that you are a chef and have a variety of fresh veggies and fruits available. Most Greys also appreciate some whole grain pastas cooked or raw and enjoy sprouted grains and a cooked mash of beans and grains as well. Hope you have no nonstick pans at home they can be a quick death for your Grey.

You have been given some great advice already so I will just add that you are in for an interesting time establishing a rewarding relationship with Sampson. Time and patience will be you most reliable tools. Move slowly speak softly and share time together. You can read or sing to him enjoy music and share little pieces of what ever healthy snacks you may have around the house. Looking forward to sharing stories of how your interactions unfold.
