  1. When you go out shopping with out even noticing you have bird poop on your clothes-yuk but it has happened.
  2. Seems that they may be a fun flock! Since their sizes are so different I would not encourage any close interaction, they are so fast and it is easy to loose a toe. Those Quakers are like the little dog that thinks it is a Rottweiler-no fear and very little respect for the armament of others. Well done so far! Will be interested in hearing more of their conversations.
  3. Very nice! Alfie is helping you so well.
  4. One can never tell before you bring in a new bird if that will be a harmonious thing or just be a disaster. Each bird has it's own personality and reacts as an individual to new situations. Like us it could be love at first sight in which you may be the odd one out, or it could be a competitive bickering relationship. They could be friends or the could require a referee.
  5. Perhaps it is not the weight but the fatty acid content of the blood that concerns him? Until you spin down some blood and see the levels of fat on top of the fluids and solids you just don't know. It is likely the blood work could show normal levels but until tested who knows? Greys have a history of heart issues on captivity that can shorten their lives-not saying this is what the fact is, just some thing to consider. My Vet. who is both Avian and Zoo certified does recommend some palm oil especially for those birds with dry skin, low body weight or feather breakage issues.
  6. He will have to shed the broken parts completely before new feathers will grow in to replace them.
  7. Excellent reaction to a bad situation, great results and wonderful advice. Karma for you and your clear thinking.
  8. How much of that does he actually eat and how much ends up on the floor? I would suggest a smaller serving of egg and maybe fewer Nutriberries. What other veggies and fruits do you offer? The brighter colored produce carries the most nutrition squash, beets (red and yellow), pomegranate, kale and sweet potato for example.
  9. Rainbows with feathers in your life, nice pictures and equally nice to meet you Pat.
  10. I was encouraged to post this one, a German heavy metal bands presentation of a strip mining machine-
  11. My Elanora and Pookie the Grey both go "walk about". Kind of unnerving when not expecting a bird to walk up behind your foot and climb your leg.
  12. What a sheltered life she has lived. Maybe the leash and harness confused her or her eyesight is failing from living like a troglodyte?
  13. Love that expressive thought chain-it strikes me that Karma being what it is in the world does the negative all on it's own and we are best served by making the most of our lives by using positive moves and words. >:>
  14. It appears to be bent or broken above the embedded portion. She will eventually shed it, pull it or clip it herself. If she doesn't you can do it for her but she might not appreciate your help with it. It can get annoying rubbing on toys and the cage sides but it shouldn't be too big a danger for her as it is already damaged and should pull free rather than injuring her.
  15. From the mouths (beaks) of birds...hmmm where has she been and what has she been up to while you are at work?B)
  16. Love when a plan comes together-good work! The poor man was most likely deprived of animal companionship as a child.
  17. I love this story, so much of what they do in the name of safety is not based in common sense. Glad Rosie handled it all so well. Great story appreciate your sharing it!:cheer:
  18. How wonderful he is beginning:cheer: to feel safe, good job!
  19. Don't get yourself arrested, do continue to pursue and try to confirm it really is Sinbad. Maybe offer to help him get a bird of his own once you have explained the requirements of good bird keeping. I think that the suggestion of making him out to be the rescuer and not the bad guy may be the best approach. More flies with honey than vinegar theory.
  20. Hope they were not affected by the destructive Earthquake of yesterday, very sad and difficult time for those on the Island. :(
  21. I would suggest a slow and gentle approach, all his surroundings and people are new to him. Take it slowly and have them just spend a little time on the way by his cage saying hello, or what a nice bird he is, perhaps leaving a little treat in his food dish. Eventually he will realize they are not a threat just members of his new flock. If they can sit and read to him or sing they all seem fascinated with children's books and the bright colored pictures.
  22. Are you watching this one Bernie? ASTEROID FLYBY: Is it an asteroid or a derelict spacecraft? Mystery object 2010 AL30 is flying past Earth today only 1/3rd the distance to the Moon, and telescopes around the world are watching. In Colombia, amateur astronomer Alberto Quijano Vodniza used a 14-inch Meade LX200 to record the close approach: What's up in Space January 13, 2010 "2010 AL30 is the faint streak moving among the stars," says Vodniza. "The full-length animation reveals a second much brighter object. That's a satellite that happened to be passing by at the same time." Space is a busy place, it seems. Discovered barely three days ago, 2010 AL30 is catalogued as a 10m-class asteroid. Curiously, however, its elliptical orbit has a period of almost exactly one year, the same as Earth. This raises the possibility that it might be a piece of some spacecraft from our own planet. NASA's Goldstone radar in the Mojave desert was scheduled to ping 2010 AL30 between 2:20 and 4:40 UTC on Jan. 13th. The echoes should reveal the nature of this interesting passerby. Stay tuned for updates.
