Km Kim you only have to cook the beans not the seeds, you are converting them to a more digestible format. do not feed Soy beans or Lima beans at all- NOTE: Many people have fed all of the beans in their sprouted form without problem. However, large raw beans such as Anasazi, Black, Fava, Kidney, Lima, Navy, Pinto, and Soy can cause problems of toxicity and digestive upsets for people and perhaps for birds. Except for soy sprouts (edible raw if grown long enough), these beans should be cooked to be digestible and are not recommended for general sprouting purposes. Soy sprouts, however, are high in isoflavones, SOD (superoxide dismutase), a very powerful and important antioxidant with essential fatty acids and lecithin.
  2. This poor guy has not been out in all that time I woud allow him out but only provide food inside the cage, he will go back inside when hungry and thirsty they are smart birds. Fear of being shut in with no understanding that he might get out again-that is some of his baggage right now as he had a taste of being out. Patience and small steps to gain his trust trying not to force him into anything and do reward what he does to cooperate.
  3. It is an Elegant serene silver beauty. Thank you for the story of the Odide, very nice.
  4. Not an easy situation to take on and it is so very hard to loose that battle for life. I think you did win the battle for joy and peace, good work and big hugs for your loss.

If you look on line there are several sprouting suppliers I use SproutPeople.com they have a small kids kit that works perfectly for my flock and a variety of very fresh seeds and legumes ect. some mixes just for birds. There are many others available so look around the net and your favorite whole foods type store as well.

They do not need to develop tails, just when they begin to split open they are ready. I rinse as often as possible when sprouting to add oxygen and keep moist and fresh.
  7. Very nice progress keep up the good work Kopi and you.
  8. Lovely bird it does look blue in your picture natural light photo would be more conclusive. Welcome to our rather Grey part of the e-world. Do keep an eye on those lose wire ends before a bird manages to hurt themselves.
  9. Impressed with those sweet potatoes WOW.
  10. At our house 3 Greys and 2 Too's I work half days the birds are caged in the mornings with a little head scratch and some private words for each before I have to go. Whan I get home they are given out of cage time which depends on how nicely they play with others. Pookie CAG and Whisper CongoCag can only play when watched they get into trouble (jealosy) Gunner TAG and Fred E2 can play nicely together so they get the most time free of cage. Harry U2 can only be out of cage when closely supervised and everyone else is inside their cages. With toys, music or TV foraging items they can do very well entertaining themselves. Like they used to say about children quality time is what counts. You can share conversations and little snacks with out letting them out if the timing is not good to do so. Greys enjoy watching us as much as we enjoy their company makes you wonder what they think of us.
  11. She has a lovely baby face!
  12. There isa small flock of them at the Sanctuary and they are not as loud a a full sized Macaw but they are very noisy as a flock. The Senegals and the Pionus are both much quieter birds. The Pionus are almost laid back the Senegals are curious and lively at least the ones I know.
  13. What irks me most is people being deliberately cruel (this applies to animals, plants and people).
  14. Very tough side of your heart being hurt by a Grey, very sad for your loss it seems he tried hard to live and just wasn't able.
  15. Kopi feeling well enough to objexct and be naughty-what a wonderful thing. Keeping those prayers and positive thoughts coming!
  16. caty sometimes they drink a great deal of water or eat too much juicy fruit and that can give them a watery dropping but to be on the safe side ALWAYS check with your Avian certified Veterinarian. Do let us know how she is doing.
  17. Oh good grief folks lets try cooked mashed sweet potatoes with a little powdered ginger mixed in a little ground Quinoa and Bam!= a warm healthy mash. I hope we can avoid toe treading this time I don't think we prosper with it. Maybe it could be done with private messaging when we dissagree? I follow your posts and respect both of you but have no respect for public squabbles. Hug and make nice.
