2. And a response from Lafeber - "Hello Liz,Thank you for contacting us and congratulations on your baby grey! I will be glad to send samples of all our diets for him to try. I will also include our catalog with information. I hope he enjoys! Please let us know if you have any questions once the samples arrive. Good luck with him!"
3. The response just received from Zupreem: "Hi Liz You may want to try the 3 lb bag ( Product # BB-3350 ) Zupreem Maintenance Large parrots. Unfortunatly we don't have any samples." :pinch:
4. Hagen responded that they will be sending a sample of their Tropican Pellets for African Greys (which I already feed him). At least they are sending something. Hopefully the others I emailed will come through as well. Thanks!

6. I just emailed "Pretty Bird" and got the following response this morning: "I'm sorry but we no longer send samples."
7. I just read another posting about stick training and see I should start on the floor with Toebie and introduce the stick slowly. Hope he will get the idea to stay on the stick eventually... I'll give it another go over the weekend.
8. I've had my CAG for 3 weeks now and he's going great - I couldn't ask for better. I thought I would introduce stick-training to him, just in case I need it someday (ie if I can't reach him with my hand or if he decides to get nippy). Anyway last night I got him to step-up to a stick 3 times but each time he flew off. He is clipped and therefore he ended up flying into a window about 6' away and then crashed to the floor - POOR guy! I felt so bad for him and obviously we stopped after that. He even got a mark/nick on his nere. I cuddled him and offered him an almond and nutriberry but he doesn't care for them (or just doesn't know what to do with them) as he kept dropping them. How do I get him to stay on the perch or stick instead of flying or jumping off right away? When he steps up to my fingers (which he does fairly well) - I can hold him on there with my other fingers and even let him flap his wings when he wants to.
9. Great pic. It's all his until he whips his head side to side to get it off his beak! :silly:
10. Talk to your bird, talk, talk, talk. But there's no guarantee that he will talk at all. Some do, some don't. We love them no matter what.
11. Sorry to see you got bit like that Roger. I've been bitten by a couple of my Pionus parrots in the past too - hurts like heck at first, hmmm? I'm better at reading their body language now. Glad to hear Congo is eating the Palm Oil now. I'm going to start giving it to my Toebie as well. Hope you hand is healing.
12. I too was tearing up reading this story - how wonderful! Thank you so much!
13. I do a fair bit for the environment by having 3 rainbarrels under downspouts around the house, compost bin in the backyard, turned the A/C up to 25C, turn the furnace down to 18C in the winter. Just bought a new smaller car that gets MUCH better mileage than the old clunker which I recycled to my brother-in-law. I am on a "FreeCycle" Yahoo group for my city to recycle items I don't use anymore (instead of putting them in the dump). I use CFL bulbs where I can throughout the house. Close the blinds during the day to keep the hot sun out in the summer. Replaced drafty windows. I don't bother watering the grass/lawn at all - it will come back in the fall and if I don't water - it doesn't grow and I don't have to mow it! Have drought tolerant plants in the gardens. Only go out shopping once a week and make a list to get it all done in one trip. If I'm in a traffic jam or line up at the gas station - I turn off the car. Turn off lights, TV, etc when not in a room. I'm sure there's more I can't think of right off hand... Every little bit adds up.

Zigzag Heron - a difficult bird to see and it is relatively poorly known. What kind of bird is this?

Post edited by: MsGardeness, at: 2009/08/18 18:58
16. Yay for Emma - I'm so happy for you and her! I would love to have all my parrots flighted but worry about them getting up too much speed and crashing into the windows or walls. ouch!
17. Hi KC - welcome (from one newbie to another)! I also have a bird (Eclectus) that plucks herself and has since long before I got her 2-1/2 years ago. At least your female lets her "pj's" grow in - that's great to see! Again, welcome to you and your flock!
18. Great shots of baby Greys growing up - thanks you so much! Most of us don't get to see the initial few months.
19. That's awesome the way she flies while hanging on! Great toy!
20. Thanks for posting that - I didn't know about the mushroom. Much appreciated!
