Emma and her Buffet Ball & Kabob
katana600 replied to lovethatgrey's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
Thanks for posting this video of Emma playing with her buffet ball. I had gotten two of them for Java and Kopi, put them in the pantry of goodies a month ago and forgot to get them out. This design is so much better than the first acrylic ball we had and was easy to fill. Both birds enjoyed their treats all day today and I wouldn't have enjoyed watching them had it not been for you to remind me. Thanks so much. -
Alfie and family lead a charmed life. I enjoyed your video every time I watched it and shared it with my family. I am going to skip the tent camping thanks, I want to go straight to your pet friendly bed and breakfast. I will try to get some pics on our RV trip next week. We are taking the three dogs and two parrots along. It should be interesting, 2,000 miles and time with friends and family. You are an inspiration Lyn.

I missed your big day to send you special wishes, but I won't let that stop me. Just keep celebrating with all of us while we cheer for your birthday and wish you many happy years with Maggie and your extended flock. I gave Kopi and Java treats and told them it was for your birthday, so they are celebrating joyously with you too.

Something I have read before on the forum if you are getting your fingers chomped, close your fist tight so he can't get a grip and offer him your forearm to step up. I have noticed that the pinch doesn't hurt near as much on an arm. You will learn his body language soon and it will get easier. It is fun to know he is talking when you are not in the room, he may be trying to entice you back. Kopi talks at certain times of the day, but whenever I go out on the sun porch where he can see me he really goes into overdrive and I think he is trying to get me to come back inside with him.

We have had Kopi for three months and I have not been able to get him to enjoy his play stand. I put a ladder from the cage to the stand and secured it with zip ties. I put lots of fun toys on it and he will climb one rung on the ladder and lean to get the toys but hasn't wanted anything else to do with it. I even put peanut butter successively higher up the rungs and he would just go so far. We are making progress because at first I would put him on the stand and he would fling himself to the floor. Now, he goes to the ladder and climbs down in a big hurry, talon-over-beak. He reminds me of a blind fellow rushing out of a burning building. Well, Java flew to his stand and he came right out, up that ladder and forgot he didn't like getting on the stand. They postured a little but no one got hurt at their first successful "meeting". However, after all was said and done, Kopi climbed up when I wasn't looking, clipped off all the zip ties and flung the ladder off the stand. He is pulling up his drawbridge and filling the moat to keep intruders out, I guess.

Oh my goodness, good on you! Here I was being a "little" cynical wondering if anyone really wins these things, but I went and voted anyway and now I am just delighted that you won!

Aww bless that little one. I couldn't believe it could eat and talk at the same time. That is just about the cutest thing I have seen. Thanks for sharing.

That Spock is a rabble rouser first thing in the morning, the lil stinker. Nothing like leading the flock to hound Jay first thing in the morning. It is really funny to know someone else's bird wants out of his cage so much. Kopi still begs to go back. "Wanna go back?" I better let Spock show him the joys of being large and in charge. LOL. Go Spock.

Jess, Kiwi is beautiful and your story tells what a kind heart you have, Yoshi is lucky to have you. There will come a day when you can "pay it forward" by mentoring a young friend and using your life experience to help someone else build a relationship such as you now have with Yoshi. I agree with Dan that you overcame your own needs at the time and put Kiwi's health and happiness in the hands of someone experienced with birds who knew how to help her overcome her frustration and that is real love. It must have been so painful for you and I can tell it still is, but knowing she is happy and you were willing to share with us and help someone else, honey you are the success here.

I have an idea the feeling is mutual and Isaac adores you as much as you love him. He is a great little buddy and someone special to hurry home to share your time together. I am glad for the two of you and Pedro too.

Spock is collecting frequent flyer miles at the vet. He is well loved and you spend a lot of your own energy keeping careful watch and adjusting his food etc. He is such a sweet part of all our lives. Thanks for all you do for him and your flock.

I have been away a few days and came on tonight to see a reference to Emma being out and I was hoping and hoping it would be okay. Thankfully, you have Emma home again. I can not imagine how this has taken a toll on you Adina. I just want you to know I care and am joyous at your return to wholeness with Emma back home again. Keep telling yourself, its okay, its okay. That is what I tell Kopi and he believes me too.

Spock is such a beautiful boy and has such a great attitude, I just hate that he is not keeping his meals down. I hope he feels better soon.

Your bird houses are inspiring Dave. We feed the birds and see lots of them, but have not put out any nesting boxes. That will have to be a priorty by next spring. I keep the squirrels busy with battery operated spinners on the squirrel proof feeders. They are incredibly clever. They are taking the springs off the other type feeders that close off the seed from the weight of the squirrel. When the squirrel guard gets stuck, the little birds land on the window frames and peck on the glass.

Jill, you just make my day! And not to worry what the neighbors might think, they have lived near you long enough to have seen it all, LOL.

Ah ha... now I can get a "reputation" from our forum. LOL. I did not know that. I did not know to hover on the green dots either. And Jilly Beans is nice! Gasp, my nose just grew a little, oops, I can't have that.

I have been working on this twelve to seventeen hours a day for a week to get the yellows and now the greens sorted. I think the greens look like the palm trees where our birds would munch happily on pine nuts. I am sorting and cutting blues for the next part, but I am going away on a four day art quilt retreat, so I have some cleaning and packing, then only two more weeks to finish the quilt top if I am going to make my self-imposed deadline. The more I work on this, the more I want to keep it, but I have all the fabric and patterns to do it again.

As I worked on the yellow rays of sun I was finding myself singing the song "You are the sunshine of my life" that I sang at night for Juno. Sometimes I cry a little. This is part of the process. Kopi encourages me while I work. "C'mon, c'mon, step up, good good".

I love reading about Harvey and seeing his photos. I especially like the pillow over the door. I tried something similar to keep small dogs off the back of the sofa, but they just kick them off and chew holes in them. Kopi doesn't stray far from his cage, but as soon as he can molt and fly, I hope he gets more adventurous. I will show him Harvey's pictures and hope he gets ideas from him.

Your dedication is inspirational. Glad to hear you have a direction to get Spock to opitimal health! Congratulations.

Mia is beautiful and look at you go with the camera and posting pictures. You are better at it than I am. I can't believe how full your life is with a little one and both your birds too. Georgie looks like he is fearless! He traveled more in the space of these few photos than Kopi has gone in two months. It is just taking our little guy a little longer to see the world is a place of joy and discovery.

This has been a challenging project, but it is still moving along. It has taken three twelve hour days to do the little yellow and black arches. Kopi is encouraging me to c'mon, c'mon, step up

Wow~ on the harness, on the pics! Alfie accepted a harness after just a week? Do you think it is the timing of trying it after she has built trust in you, or is she generally that accomodating? Kopi has been here a couple of months and it has just been within the past week he will let me move his floor stand near his cage. I can't imagine him letting me put the harness over his head yet. I love that you can take Alfie outside with you. Clearly you live in a beautiful place with the pictures just being from your phone, your colors are so bright and your details so vivid.

Actually, I read the forum for months before bringing a bird home and I am grateful that there is honesty about the amount of work, mess, commitment and expense so I went in with eyes wide open and sleeves rolled up for the hard parts too. I think the main idea conveyed by the dedicated parrot lovers and rescuers is that a parrot isn't a try-out pet.
