1. Aaww!!! That sounds too cute....we'd LOVE to see a video of that if you manage to capture the magic I know how tough it is to get them to cooperate for video/photos sometimes
2. Our precious little Chimay will be 1 year old on 11/28/09!!! Problem is he's got just about every toy/climbing apparatus ever made, so it'll be hard to figure out what to get him for his hatch day! Haha
3. Hahaha!!!! Nice Jill...quite the handsome farmer. Lol! We should see how many animals we can gather up in our list...C'mon everyone! I know we've got an emporer penguin or something out there! Anyone's greys out there watch March of the Penguins one too many times? Ha!
4. We could get all of our fids together for a little barnyard hoe-down!!!
5. Haha! Now that would be one heck of a playdate!
6. If Chimay was a female I could've probably made my money back in eggs at the farmers market! Haha! Just kidding. He is the sweetest chicken anyone could ask for

Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/10/26 22:39
7. All of this time, I thought that I had purchased a Congo African Grey from our breeder...These last couple of days, Chimay has shown his true colors. He's bawking like a chicken! It's his newest favorite sound to make. I think my boyfriend bawked at him as a joke, maybe twice, about a month ago and Chimay has been doing it almost nonstop for two or three days. Guess I purchased a chicken after all!!
8. We don't feed any seed to Chimay as a regular part of his diet...he is on fruits/veggies/smash/pellets. Although he does love nutriberries which does have seed in it, but those are simply there as foraging treats.
9. Yikes!!! That looks like it smarted quite a bit! At first I was a bit disappointed, thinking that we wouldn't be able to baby-watch anymore. But checking out Bonnie and Clyde's link I saw the nursery cam! Yay! They really are adorable babies
10. What a relief! It's wonderful to hear about Lily's recovery....Good for you for being proactive in getting her to the vet before things got worse
11. Hahaha! I LOVE it!!! Thanks for sharing!
12. Chimay was weaned onto Zupreem fruitblend and has been eating it ever since...I had accidentally ordered the "natural" blend once, and he turned his little beak up at it. Haha
13. I have found a new mash recipe I'd like to try and it does call for home-made chicken broth...unfortunately I don't really have the time to make the broth myself and was wondering if the low-sodium canned canned variety still has too high a sodium content for a grey? It would be fed to him between 3 and 4 times per week. Would it be a better idea to split the liquid content in half and use half low-sodium broth and half water?

Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/10/22 21:42
14. Check out this link from a past post on the subject as well: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/welcome-&-introduction-room/94982-branches-for-perches.html#95041 Hope this helps!
15. When Chimay came home to us he had all of his red tail feathers in tact...after a few months of playing in his new surroundings the tail feathers had taken quite a beating and several of the feathers in the middle of the tail sort of broke (no blood or anything) in the middle and he simply took them off at the break point. Now when he fans his tail it looks like a V. Haha! If he seems otherwise healthy I wouldn't worry too much. Sounds like the tail feathers may just be innocent casualties of the fun times he's having
16. Chimay will be one year old on November 28th! Thanks for all the compliments guys! I was noticing more and more that he wanted to spend less time on his playtop and more time either with us on the couch or on his Atom. So, I figured it was time for an upgrade! I promised my boyfriend it'd be the last time I'd make him mount bird stuff to the ceiling... For now
17. Me too!! I was SO thrilled when I saw it...I ordered it from www.birdsafestore.com, picked out the large sized grapevine perch which I believe is really supposed to be for the side of the cage. I emailed them and asked if it would be appropriate for cagetop use, they emailed back and said that they had one available with the appropriate perch "design" that could work for side-mounting and cagetop mounting! I really really love that store...my favorite birdie shopping site by far!
18. Haha!! Chimay makes potty noises as well...I'm relieved to find out I'm not the only one whose grey accompanies them to the bathroom! Haha!
19. Couple of pics of Chimay and his new Jolly Ball! We removed his playtop b/c it seemed like he was getting bored with it, so we overhauled it with a new grapevine cluster perch and the Jolly Ball!

Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/10/15 04:25
20. Thanks!! We haven't hung it up just yet but I let him play on it with me on the couch this morning to get used to it. As soon as we get the hardware to mount it to the ceiling and I'll be posting some pics at that time for SURE!!!
21. Just an update on our Chimay! We purchased the Jolly Ball!!! It arrived yesterday and watching his reaction to it really made me scratch my head...He went after the toys strung up along the sides without hesitation (though I don't know that he's really knows what to make of the holes in the ball). What I found funny is the fact that he had ZERO fear of this huge ball with what seems like hundreds of new toys on it, even though it's over three times his size. He had the same lack of fear of his Atom when it arrived. Yet when I purchase new smaller foot toys or perches, he will back away from them with a little bit of fear and confusion, and won't likely take to them for a day or two. Seems like he's got his fears backward. Haha! He's also trying as hard as he can to talk...he went through a phase where all he wanted to do was whistle, and now he will spend most of the morning just chattering to himself and us (no words, just grumbles). I keep encouraging him, because I know how hard he's trying and I just wanna reach into his little body and pull the words out of him!!! He's grown up SO much since he came home to us in March and I can't wait to see what else he's got in store for us. P.S. Is it sad that I took personal time from work so that I can go home early today and hang out with him? Haha....
22. What a greYt poem Jess! I actually teared up a little bit towards the end! This is a wonderful reminder that even though most others can't understand the incredible bond that is shared between human and Fid, we are always amongst like-minded people on this forum! Karma to you!
23. I SOOOOOO wish I could go....I'm in OH and will be in Cape May, NJ for my brother's graduation from the Coast Guard but just don't have the $$$ for an extended weekend in NJ. Please let us know how it turns out! Pics too if you can! B)
24. Well the ribs turned out to be FANTASTIC, but Chimay wanted nothing to do with the rib bone we put in front of him. He kind of beaked it but then backed away from it slowly as though he thought it would attack him or something. Haha! He did get a little corn on the cob instead and that ALWAYS makes him happy...We'll have to try the bones again the next time we make ribs or chicken. Thanks for all of the advice guys!
