Yay! That's a relief...I was a little unsure of what I'd bought but really liked the design with the clamp and all. And I did purchase the recommended bulb to go with it Now all that is left to do is get the timer! Thanks!!!
-
I probably should have posted this PRE purchase, but I figured better late than never....I bought a full spectrum lamp for Chimay and I'm hoping that I made a good selection. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5059+5690+5718&pcatid=5718 I chose this one because it clamps to the cage, we can turn it onto a timer to shine into the cage for some hours during the day while we're at work and then remove it while we're home to get it out of the way while he plays on top of the cage. For those of you who have full spectrum lighting for your fids, how many hours of lighting do you give them during the day? I hope I didn't just purchase a piece of junk

I showed Chimay the picture of Alfie and the Hoover, hoping that he'd learn by example and start vacuuming up some of his own messes but he just looked at me and blew a raspberry at the idea. LOL! I guess he doesn't plan to contribute to the household chores the way Alfie does Haha! GreYt pictures!

What a wonderful moment for you and Sadie!!! It's so exciting when our fids talk for the first time, but the fact that "I love you" was the first words/phrase she learned must make it all the more special! I'm really happy for you! Good girl Sadie!!! :woohoo:  :woohoo:

Your Emma is really a cutie pie I love how she says "you're so funny" after you took the time to go thru the whole Jack and Jill rhyme. Thanks for sharing! It's always a joy to see Emma and her antics

Chimay will be 1 year old on 11/28/09!! Thank you and I'm looking forward to reading the same about your Chikki!!!
-
I second that "my god"!! Can you imagine the morning bombs that would come out of an 8 ton raptor/bird???

Don't feel silly....when I first joined I was confused by fid, CAG and TAG. Haha!

Please keep us posted! Hope he's okay

To my knowledge, greys do not have earwax. At least not to the extent that you described I think. Is it possible that it was a bit of foodstuff that he had gotten onto his face near his ear? Does it appear that it's coming from the ear interior? If it is the latter, I would get in touch with an avian vet to ask. How is his behavior/demeanor otherwise?<br><br>Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/11/04 20:35

I'm definitely planning to do that once I can time it correctly...He hasn't gotten to a point where he's repeating it regularly so it's hard to capture the magic. I will be posting it for sure!

I was a little bit disappointed last night because he didn't show off his new words to "Daddy" when he got home, but he showed off quite a bit this morning! My boyf Chuck is such a proud papa
-
Thanks guys!! I am so thrilled about it, I just hope he shows off his first words plenty when my boyfriend gets home from work! But of course....Already the student has become the teacher!

Chimay was standing on our shower door getting a nice steam while I showered, chattering as he always does, when out of no where came "can you whistle?" I paused, thinking that maybe I was hearing things and continued on with my shower. A minute or two passed and out it came again! "Can you whistle?" I was so excited! Naturally I whistled for him, as he does for me when I make the same request to him. I'm so excited! He's been trying for at least the two months to talk, but all of it has been unintelligible mumbling until now. I can't wait to hear what he has to say next!!!

Introduce yourself to the forum in the Welcome Room so we can hear all about you and your new baby! If you have pictures of your Ozzy we'd love to see them as well! B)
-
Chimay was a bit older than your baby when he came home to us but I know what sounds you're talking about...he made them all of the time as well! I don't think it's anything to worry about. Until we got to know him and he learned how to express himself to us better, we pretty much relied on body language and the like. Oh how I miss those baby noises! They really are adorable.

Deciding on a grey seemed to be a bit of an instinctual choice for us...My mom had a TAG for several years while I was in high school, so I was familiar with them and wanted to stick with what I knew. It definitely helped knowing that I could go to my mom for quick advice (this was before my discovery of this wonderful forum). A grey seemed to be a perfect fit all around...cage size was a great fit for the apartment we live in, and from what I'd understood they don't usually reach the decibel level that birds like macaws and cockatoos do...don't think our neighbors would have liked it. Still after all of that consideration, we really didn't set our decision in stone until we found our breeder. She was WONDERFUL with us!! As far as Chimay goes, it was love at first picture (breeder is out of state so we didn't get to meet him before he came home to us)!!<br><br>Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/10/31 05:09

She really is a sweetie...you can't help but smile when that little "peeboooooo" comes out. Thanks for sharing her with us!

Have you been given any photos of the split beak that you could post so we can see what it is you're talking about? And have you posed this same question to an avian vet? When it comes to informed decisions, particularly about a birdie that may need special care, an avian vet's opinion is a must...of course I'm sure there will be some greYt advice that others here will have as well. Good luck in your decision! Keep us posted!

We've got quite a list here! And it sounds like we've moved into the realm of home appliances with Chris's microwave birdie. Haha! 1 chicken 1 seagull 1 crow 1 rooster 1 cardinal 1 hawk 1 duck 1 pterodactyl 1 chihuahua 1 turkey 2 kitty cats 1 microwave 1 guinea pig 1 monkey (with attitude) My goodness we've all been taken for suckers! None of us got the grey we were promised!! Hahaha<br><br>Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/10/28 22:46 -
I dunno, looks to me like Ecko is trying to take credit for your hard work Hahaha! Very nice job on the pumpkin!! Happy Halloween!!
-
I would have loved to bring him along with me to work, however I work at a call center and they won't allow it I'd be too distracted in wanting to play with him anyway, nothing would get done! Haha
-
Thanks Judy! That was my suspicion as well but I knew I'd feel that much better if people in this wonderful forum shared the same opinion. It's been nearly an hour now so I'm likely going to get him into his cage so that I can go to work. I'm sure my boss thinks I'm nuts for using sick time for my bird Haha!

I was just getting ready to leave for work, and Chimay and I were playing peek a boo in our bedroom...he seemed to be enjoying it but then he started bobbing his head and out popped an undigested whole pine nut. I use pine nuts as training treats and he absolutely loves them. It concerned me b/c he had some pine nuts over two hours earlier and I was surprised to find them whole. He's never ever done this before and immediately I was concerned...is this love or illness? He's acting just fine otherwise, if anything he seems overly hyper at the moment. I put him up on his Jolly Ball to let him chill and calm down a bit, and he's happily chewing away on a wooden block. I've already called the vet who advised me to keep an eye on him for at least an hour and if it continues, to bring him in this afternoon. Just wanted to put the situation on this forum as well to get general opinions. He'll be 1 year old on 11/28/09
