1. I've loved birds (the feathered variety and the leggy sort too!!) for years, since I was little and always wanted to own one. I've never really had the time, or money to have one. Recently (2003) I've since moved house from Blackburn to York, so have left a lot of friends behind (who I keep up with via Facebook, msn and a monthly trip over the pennines).. As a consequence, I don't really know that many people over here, so my social life has declined a little lol! After meeting the breeder last October, and seeing how these Greys interact with people, I've seen how these birds are more "friends" than pets.. I think deep down, every Grey owner would love their little-uns to chat to them, I know I do.. If it doesn't, I'm not going to be disappointed at all, I just want to come home and have a little buddy to have a laugh with and a great long lasting relationship. I'm leaning towards the Grey over other birds mainly because of their intelligence, they absolutely fascinate me. The way they mutter at you, their tantrums and other quirks. I work as a teaching assistant in a 2ndary school, and in all the videos I watch of Greys, I can relate to at least one of the pupils who I work with!! So I'm bracing myself for 50 years of living with a moody teenager lol.. Must be mad! Like Sallas, I too have a disability. I've got fairly advanced Arthritis.. the only thing I'm worried about is whether my crutches will scare him/her.. All new dog's will bark and be very wary of me till they know I'm not about to hit them over the head!! So I'll just have to work out ways to get the new arrival used to my stilts. I can't really introduce them slowly.. As I kinda need them to get around!!

Post edited by: Titch, at: 2009/01/13 00:25

 4. Cheers.. and i know what you mean.. sometimes all i want to do is read what everyone else has written..!! it is sunday after all..
 5. We have 2 dogs.. Clover, who is an 8 year old collie type dog.. and her 6 year old son Willow, who is twice her size and more mongrelly.. We got them from an RSPCA rescue centre, and we're sure that Willow has special needs lol!! They are both extremely docile, to the extent that a while ago we used to take disabled children in on weekend breaks (to give their parents a chance to have to time for themselves).. one child would heavily pet both dogs, and they'd both just sit there and tolerate it all!!! much to their credit.. most dogs would have snapped at kids.. I've knocked magazines off the arm of the chair before.. looked down, and Willows lying under them.. hasn't even moved, protested or flinched.. hence the reason we think he's got special needs.. on a more concerned note, it's kinda sad to think what they must have gone through in the past before we rescued them, in order for him to be so tolerant of kids and magazines dropping on him..!! Sorry they're a little dark.. i accidently took the first one with the flash and clover looked like she was about to pass out.. lol.. (she didn't do anything though, just shows how docile she really is! She even sat there and waited for me to switch the flash off to try again.) Clover and Willow.. no matter how much I clicked, called his name and bribed with treats, he just led there being his usual self..

Post edited by: Titch, at: 2009/01/11 20:04
 6. Another one for you. just got this in a text and had to share... Mary had a little lamb, It's fleece was white and whispy Along came foot and mouth disease and now it's black n crispy! hahaha
 7. A monkey is sitting in a tree smoking a joint, when a lizard walks past, looks up, and says to the monkey "Hey, what're you doing?" The monkey replies, "Smokin' a joint, come up and have some." So the lizard climbs up the tree, sits next to the monkey, and they smoke a few joints. After a while the lizard says his mouth is 'dry' and he's going to the river to get a drink. The lizard climbs down the tree and staggers over to the river to get a drink of water, but he is so stoned, he leans over too far and falls into the river. A crocodile sees this, swims over to the lizard and helps him to the side. Then he asks the lizard, "What's the matter with you?" The lizard explains to the crocodile that he was sitting up in a tree with a monkey smoking pot, got too stoned and then fell into the river while taking a drink. The crocodile says he has to check this out, and wanders off into the jungle. He finds the tree where the monkey is sitting finishing up a joint. The crocodile yells up to the monkey and says "Hey!" The monkey looks down and says, ......."Dude! How much water did you drink?!"
 8. Cheers for the welcome I've wanted a bird for a long time, since I was really little.. but was never really in a position to have one for reasons of other priorities, finances and moving houses etc etc.. you know what life can be like.. then some friends of mine took me to their friends bonfire party in October(you still with me here lol??) it turned out that the parties host is a breeder of Congo's and another bird which i think he called Jardies? is that right? So it'll be about 13-14 weeks old when i pick it up.. So we got chatting and he found out I was into birds (I used to be in the YOC and RSPB). Since then I've been frantically reading everything i can for the last few months lol.. and now my heads just full of conflicting information.. ask one person and they tell you one thing, ask another and they tell you summat else.. i think I'm just going to have to take it all on board, and work out which bits apply to my "individual" Grey. I've found a Avian vet too in the next village from me.. so it'll have an appointment there, pick it up on a Saturday, going to make an appointment for the Monday afternoon.. Was told to get a "well being" check-up to set my Greys benchmarks and give the little dude it's MOT once a year.. I've driving my parents nuts constantly chatting about the new arrival. Yes i still live at home, in this day and age of house prices, i find it more manageable. We've decided on calling it Jasper Parrot after the comedian.. BTW Happy New year to you all.. See you round T.
 9. Congrats Laurie.. It's a tough one to kick!

Post edited by: Titch, at: 2009/01/13 21:29
 10. Hi everyone. Found this site after searching google for information on how often to shower a Grey, low and behold, theres just the article I wanted on your front page!! I'm not an owner (yet). Hope to take home a new Grey at the end of the month. So you'll probably be seeing a lot of frantic posts for a few months whilst try to work out whether or not I'm doing the right thing!!! Spent the last couple of months reading every book, website and watching every Youtube video I can cram into my day. But as you can appreciate, there's gonna be all those little unexpected 'happenings'. oo.. I nearly forgot!! I'm me.. lol.. Chris, 28, slightly nuts.. I live in York in NE UK. I work in a school, there's loads more info on my profile for you all to digest in your free time.. Will get some photo's of the new arrival up as soon as he/she arrives. In the meantime, here's one of me.. Speak to you all soon Titch.
