Bar spacing on it is 31mm (1.2") and there's no problems with it, Echo can't get any part of her through apart from her beak.. So I have to warn children when they come round not to put fingers too close as she's not the most sociable bird in the world  She's ok with mum and dad, she loves me to bits, but anyone else.. nooooooooooo
-
Thats a cool toy!! Whats an Atom btw?

Whats your Greys name? (or suggestions!?!?)
Titch replied to nluvwithmygrey's topic in The GREY Lounge
Echo is called Echo.. Because she's a parrot.. and parrots echo what you say  and thats as deep as my reasoning goes I'm afraid.. The new one will be called - Tic Tac and I'm gonna teach him/her to say Shake ya Tic Tac's like the advert :woohoo: -
I'm often in the cage with Echo, easier on cleaning day when there is no grates or trays in.. I have to get in just to move anything around.. She's currently sat next to me stripping some poor Willow tree to bits. Systematically making a huge mess which I will gladly have to clean up later!

if you look above me.. you'll see echo sat on top of the cage with me inside

The slightly crazy parrot dude from York has returned.. with..... Echo We have been away for ages off here due to my PeeCee taking a dislike to anything I wanted it to do.. But I eventually won the war by reformatting it, therefore erasing it's memory of being a bad compooter. Echo is now 8 months old and is a complete devil.. I mean Angel.. no.. I was right the first time.. So without further ado, meet her royal highness.. She's not DNA'd - just suspected. I have a kit which I will send off when I get the time. She has now progressed to the mahoosive cage which arrived earlier this month which she promptly moved me into.. She's highly energetic, and loves to hang out on her window rope and leap between that and the playstand. I have no pic of the playstand, how bizzare.. anyway - moving on.. She eats pretty much everything as long as it's in birdie bread - so Harrisons bird mix to the rescue and into that go fresh veggies, fruit and nuts (no peanuts, they're banned) , pellets, supplements, oats, cornflakes.. anything really that could taste fun! Seeds - well, she has a small bowl of them which she dips into and I hide them in foraging toys, so if she really wants seeds, she has to work for them.. Here's a few more pics to keep you all amused.. Speak soon

have you tried rescue centres? though some rescue parrots could be tricky to handle if they've been mistreated in the past, but if your looking to adopt, i reckon this would be the kindest way forward.

I like it.. only thing i don't like is the blur at the front as well as the back of the flower.. i'd prefer the shot to be sharp at the front and blurred only at the back, would give impression of depth better that way imo. Colours are nice though, would look really good in my room. (orange walls! lol)

I don't think that the animals know right and wrong, they realise what makes us happy and when they have upset us once they have carried out an action which we aren't happy with. Birds are flock animals, they want to join in with us and be part of the "crew" as such. When they do something wrong, they don't get the positive attention that they crave from us.. just as we crave fun and positive attention from them. When we upset them, they bite us or scream and therefore we modify our behaviour accordingly. So in a way, I don't think that they know when they're about to do something wrong that's a "new" wrong behaviour ie something we haven't trained them not to do already.. but more they understand when we are upset by something they have done.

LisaM, Your living room looks amazing!! Can I come and live with you

Spheksophobia, a fear of Wasps.. i've demolished the inside of caravans in a panic trying to escape them.. I work in a school and if we get one in the room i have to leave till it's been killed.. and i have to know it's dead  else i'm not going back in. Sometimes i'm lucky enough to be supporting a kid in lesson who's allergic to wasp stings, so i save face and say i'm supervising him!! I've tried so hard though to try and overcome it.. but i really freak, i'd love a pet scorpion or a snake, but show me a wasp and i lose the plot, i won't even go in the insect house in a zoo, even though they're behind glass..

Use it, film the kids with it whilst the bird is there.. have fun and games and always make sure the camera is in the room or even in use and maybe the grey will just one day join in and feel at ease with the camera. That's a mint story about the scaring lol..<br><br>Post edited by: Titch, at: 2009/01/18 20:03

can you not make her a ladder to climb down?
-
I haven't been as high up the ladder as your aiming to be, but i've worked in both areas your interested in.. A legal team dealing with COPD claims for British coal miners and a Probate team. I now work in a school in a learning support team. my mum is my boss lol.. she's the special needs co-ordinator, it's an awful lot of work, she regularly does long days and work at home after school a lot. working in special needs covers all subjects. it's a whole school issue, not just one department. but, every day is different, challenging and you'll find yourself using the techniques you use with your parrot with the kids!! lol.. read Irene Pepperbergs research and a lot of that can be applied to children with autism and learning difficulties.. My preferred job is definitely in school. the job satisfaction is so much more rewarding, seeing kids learn and grow from when they join us at 11, till they leave us as young adults. i'd rather do that, than get some far removed relative a few quid for some relative they never knew, deal with family feuds over a bit of compensation, or otherwise be known as a shark. plus!! if you work in a school as a career think of the holidays you can spend with your family/bird. <br><br>Post edited by: Titch, at: 2009/01/16 21:03

Top bird!.. such fun to listen to. Do your cigs have the foil lining? I suppose if that's been removed then it'll be a fairly safe box... or you could quit smoking, eat ice lollies when you crave a ciggy lol. and give her the sticks.. Looking forward to the next vid. T

Shopping for unconventional "bird toys" like Legos
Titch replied to EFGriffith's topic in The GREY Lounge
I like the idea of lego though.. Do you have Duplo in America? It's like Lego, but bigger blocks and the bits don't fit together quite as tightly.. Designed for very young children. heres some next to a piece of lego so you can see the size difference. just thinking about ELGriffiths lego house not being quite big enough -
