  1. no dan, Its not gross at all I love to share! Here is a fresh one. See those bubbles right next to that long string of fece? And a bubble here and there on top also. Sorry about the paper I used to catch it. I should have used one that is more water proof to prevent water seeping through. Let me know if you can see the picture alright tho.. Thanks!
  2. I went online myself and searched for "bubble in poops" and found this website http://www.parrotchronicles.com/septoct2002/droppings.htm It says "Bubbly not good, you should watch for a couple of bathroom habits that could mean big trouble. For one, droppings that contain any bubbles or foam probably indicate an infection such as clostridium." The Vet didnt mention Clostridium. He said that Lilo seems fine but he will not say he is "healthy" untill we send his stool to the lab. Lilo doesn't have any of those symptoms that you mentioned either. And he has been pooping bubbles for nearly 5 days now... He just dropped a big pile of poop with feces urine and urates still contained some bubbles in it. But it looks much better than the earlier poops...Should I just go ahead with further testing? or give him a few more days??
  3. Hi all, I have spoke to some of you about Lilo's poops. Lately, he’s poops has contained bubbles; Sometimes I don’t see any feces at all just urine and urates with bubbles/foam on top. I took him to the vet yesterday and did an over all check up and some basic stool exam. The Vet said that Lilo seems fine base on these basic check ups, but for the more detail exam, he will have to send sample of his stool to a lab (which will cost about $300). So I thought I will come home and observe him for another day or two before I submit his stool samples to the lab since he has been eating playing and sleeping as usual. I have been looking at his poop ever since we got back and they still contain bubbles. I have decided to submit his stool to the lab tomorrow. I m just wondering if anybody has the same experience with your bird poops with bubbles or anybody has any knowledge about bird infection such as clostridium? What is the cause and what do they usually do to cure it? Any information will be very helpful! Thanks!!
  4. Maybe a little compromise between you and your b/f? I don't think its ever too early to teach you brid anything, as long as you do it in a fun and enjoyable way. Like Toweling, instead of just throw the towel over her right away, play "peekaboo" with her first. Place her on the ground or any "its ok for her to play area", then you hide behind the towel and peek out anywhere from behind the towel and say "peekaboo"!! Play this game with her for couple of days. When she seems more comfortable with the towel and see it as something fun to be around then you slowly cover her with the towel (by starting wtih the game "peekaboo"). Once you get her in the towel then you pick her up with laughters and kisses and tell her she is a good girl. Over all just try to make it fun and whenever you want to teach her anything make sure she is enjoying your company, whenever you feel frustrated or nervous stop the session and try it another time.<br><br>Post edited by: LilosMom, at: 2009/02/05 19:33
  5. I've also called before and received generous amount. I've call Lafeber, Roundybush and Harrisons. You just tell them (they are usually very friendly and helpful) that you have an CAG and you want to try some of their products to see if your grey likes it. They will just ask you general questions like how old is you bird, how many birds you have, your address and 1-2 weeks later, you will get some free food in your mailbox!
  6. What is the best parrot magazine for CAG owner in your opinion? I want to subscribe to one for bed time reading..
  7. YEp, My shirt when he is on me, my blanket when he wake me up in the morning and everything else he can get his beak around. They are marked by him with lots holes...
  8. AWww how cute, My bird haven’t slept like that since he was a baby.. I miss those days...
  9. First I'd like to say Congrats! I myself am pregnant (20weeks) I just got over my 1st trimester (thank god) and I can totally relate with you about feeling ill. I had a real bad morning sickness, where I couldn’t even stand to smell anything. I m not a neat freak but ever since I got pregnant my husband handles all the cleaning relating to the bird just to be extra safe. As far as disease from the bird, if you really worry about it, you just tell your Doctor that you have a parrot. By the time you are about 12 weeks pregnant, they are suppose to do all kind of blood test on you anyways, and one of these test will test if you caught anything from the bird or not. If the test comes back negative, chances are you are immune to it even if the bird carries any dieses. My situation is different from yours. I had Lilo for almost 3 years now, and he was my bird before hubby even came into the picture. When I first found out I was pregnant I even told hubby that we will give up the newborn baby for adoption if there is any problem between the baby and Lilo (Jokingly of course…hmmm.. evil: ) Before becoming pregnant we had also talked about how we are going to take on the bird and a newborn baby. We still haven’t figured it out the details yet but… We came to a conclusion that no matter what, we are going to try our best to provide both the bird and the baby the best we can. I think it really takes both me and my husband to want to commit to it, if one of us is not in it. It’s really not fair to the bird. I agree that you really need to sit down with your husband, and ask him to also see it from the bird’s perspective that it’s not fair to him if part of you doesn’t want him around. In that cast maybe re-homing the best option. Or if you still want to give it a try, you don’t have to be around the bird for too long everyday just 15 minus a day sit by the cage and just talk to him and watch him (they can be so darn cute!!) wait until your 1st trimester is over, maybe you will feel less ill around the bird since all your senses (smelling tasting) will go back to normal. See what happen then. Good luck with everything and Please update us on your decision.

    HELP

I'd say go to another avian vet, if you have another one near you. I always believe in 2nd opinion in diagnosing whether in human or animals...
  11. Yea Dan, It was so funny to watch it, I wish I had a camcorder ready. Makes me wonder if he really understand the meaning of "I ll be right back". We do tell him "I ll be right back" when we leave the room and tell him "bye bye" when we leave the house. They sure are smart and amazing creatures!!
  12. Hi Lolamay, I too do the same thing; I have a T-stand where I can bring Lilo everywhere with me. Hubby and I both works at home so we also take turns (actually that is up to Lilo who he wants to follow) I find that for Lilo as long as there is somebody there with him in the same room he is fine, he just doesn't like to alone. Now, I have a baby on the way, so I m trying to change the strategy and train him to be in the cage more or stay at one spot when I need him to stay put. Like Dan mentioned above, it’s a lot of repetitions and you have be consistent (which I have not master yet) Please update us on the progress, good luck!
  13. Great stories everybody and thanks for sharing... This morning Lilo was all the way up on top of his playstand Singing and whistling a storm as usual, then all of sudden he announced "I ll be right back" and climb down the playstand to his food/water dish. After a few bites of some food and a sip of water he climb back to the top of the playstand and precede his beautiful singing and whistling.
  14. Hi Dan, How do you do that? is that the one where you just have to put him back to the same place 1000 times?

    Parrot dirt

I use the command "poopie". Lilo now only poopie at certain spots. He will also announce loudly to us "poopie!!" when he is somewhere he is not suppose to poop, so I can quickly get him to step up and get him to a place where he can poop. Of course accident still happens but its so much better after hes been taught the command.
  16. Hi Dennisandholly Welcome! thanks for sharing your story and glad to see the pictures of lucky and cody playing together and getting along!
  17. Yea I thought so too, just wondering if there is any truth to it....:side:
  18. Hi all, I found this article which I find it very interesting. http://www.parrotforums.com/showthread.php?t=31 I always called Lilo a he or "good boy" but I actually never had his feather DNA tested. It doesn't matter to me he is a boy or a girl, but by the information from the article, Lilo might be a Girl!! Can everyone please look at your grey right now and let me know if article is accurate? (There is one mentioned from the link where you can tell by looking at their tail and another one where you can tell by looking at their eyes) It will be interesting to find out and fun to know if we can really visual sexing greys!
  19. Thanks Lyric for the info. I was going to get harrisons, but I think I want to get some samples first just to see if Lilo likes it. But since TOPS aren't too expansive, they are healthy and highly recommanded by your birds, I m thinking just to order one lb to try. By the way, I found the below link to get free food samples from different places if you guys want to try. http://forums.slickdeals.net/archive/index.php/archive/t-423794.html The link is kind of out dated so some numbers might be changed, but it doesn't hurt to try.(I m going to call tommorrow) Thanks again for the info lyric!
  20. Yea Lilp's tag just has "0268" on it. Ok thanks everyone, its interesting to know!
  21. Firs rule about the bite club is you don’t talk about the bite club.. ok ok bad joke or somebody probably already used it… Kimberly that is some serious bite, hopefully its a lot better by now… Today, I went to "Bird jungle" as well (referred by Journeyman's post) and saw a seemly very eager to play soft fluffy looking cockatoo. He/She gave me the pick me up signal (one foot raised) So of course… offered he/she my hand. He got me by the meat between my thumb and index finger and pull backwards and did a upside down on it, like he was determine to take a chunk with him. I didn’t want to scream (or cry)… good thing hubby saw my facial expression from the other side and came to my rescue. Asides from that, Lilo still gives me occasion nips here and there, they are not as bad as they used to be, but every once awhile I still need to get some bandage out to stop it from bleeding..So I definitely belong here in the Bite club!
  22. Thank you thank you for all your great advices and warm wishs! Right now With Lilo, he is out of his cage pretty much all day, he flies from room to room, and either stays with me or hubby. The only time we put him in the cage and he is alone is when we are out. (Usually every other day 3-5 hrs for errands or dinner) He gets to do and go where ever he wants in the house. Maybe we should start limit him to some rooms only instead of the entire house, and maybe give him some time by himself even when we are at home. This way when the baby comes, we might be busy in the other room and he will get more used to it. About getting another bird, my plan is def. to get it before the baby is born. Right now I have another 4-5 months to devote all my time to Lilo and the new bird and give them some times to bond with each other. But I understand the responsibilities for another addition; I will do more thinking and research about it. Thank everyone again, I knew I can always find some good advices and support from this forum!<br><br>Post edited by: LilosMom, at: 2009/01/28 02:41
  23. Hi everybody, I just have a small question about Lilo's ID tag on his foot. I read it somewhere that it might be his Birthday. was wondering if there is any truth to it. Maybe someone can help me decode his ID tag. I got him in Jan, 2006 at the time they said that He was about 3 months old. I suspected that he was little older than that but I m not really sure. His ID code has the number "0268" on it. It would be interesting to find out
  24. I know Dan, I m worry about that too. I have observed Lilo meeting new "friends" animal, people or toys. He rarely gets aggressive, or acts like he hates the new friend. The most I have seen him doing is just getting very curious and wanted to fly on them right away and that uausally scared the crap out of the guests. Or soemtimes he would fluff up for a new toy but would have no problem with it after a day or 2. I was wondering if is a good idea to bring Lilo to bird shops so he can meet or he even pick out his own possible future bird friend or "borrow" the new bird for a few days to see if they get along. Birdgirl, thank you for the advice, Congrats to your newborn baby! I've noticed that you have 2 birds, did you have them both before the birth of your baby? do they get along with each other? Can you briefly tell me your daily routine with your baby, birds and dog? lol thanks
