I brought my baby grey home today. She is still learning to perch, and my oh my is it CUTE:laugh: Few questions: I am feeding her mashed up apples, banana's ect. Should I warm it up in the microwave, or is giving it to her cold better? She had a small amount of Pau D'Arco mixed in with the formula powder. I've read that is can be VERY good for the birds, in VERY small amounts. The breeder says it works wonders on the birds. My question is, I kind of want to spinkle some in with the quakers food once a week. She's a plucker, and very very small for a quaker, but she's always been rather tiny. Do you think its a good idea to at least try? I have a aviary vet appointment Thursday with Dr. LightFoot Pictures will be coming soon. She is already playing with the toys I have in her cage, making LOTS of cute baby noises. The car ride home she insisted on talking (baby talk) the whole way home, and just beaking everything around her. She's a healthy little girl =] UpDate: Here are picture from today She perched for the first time, though she doesn't have much balance. She practiced on my hand while we watched tv together, she would catch her balance, then stretch her wing, and foot. Then fall, and do it all over again:laugh: My entire family loves her. She's lucky to be alone during the day. Ha

Post edited by: Twosteph, at: 2009/02/18 02:42

Welcome:) I'm getting my Grey Saturday, and like you, I made sure everything was in place before hand. What really helped me was the book Parrots for dummies:laugh: It explains EVERYTHING in detail, and its a good reference to have on hand.
-
Thank you =] Can't wait to share the many picture, either:)

Thats exactly what I mean Judy. Like, I don't understand anyone who fears its birds health would not buy from ebay. And, atm, this is the one fear I have. Keeping the baby healthy. I got "Parrots for Dummies" a couple weeks ago, and it only names EVERY single hazard that can happen. How to bird proof your house even included changing the floor color. I couldn't be anymore nervous, atm.

Well, my bird comes home Saturday. (Finally!!!) I bought her a very nice cage from the bird show here in Orlando Sunday. The same bird cage from the petstore, just 900.00 cheaper, ha. Well, my question is, how safe would buying bird toys from ebay be? Seems prices are very cheap, and I can just run the little foot toys through the dishwasher if they've been opened, i'm not worried about those. I'm wondering if any of you would actually buy the large bird toys? I wouldn't. Who knows where their bird went for them to sell a toy? What if their bird had died, and now you're taking their virus infected toys? Do people actually buy those toys? Oh, and name ideas anyone? No girl names prepared. Soooo cute:laugh:

You're grey is adorable. I love all the little whisels and kissy sounds:kiss: My quaker is very talk shy in general, recording her is totally out of the question. She is so cute though, and loves MY voice. She repeats everything I say. I think its because I have the highest voice between my dad, brother and mom. She also likes to sing Brit. Spears:woohoo:
-
Time just doesn't seem to be on my side with this. Anyone else going to the bird show in Orlando coming up? I plan to buy lots of toys and i'm on the look out for a nice perch =]
-
Oh man, how cute =]
-
Haha yeah, where he's crying. haha, that bird is to cute.

Just curious? Which bird can speak the best? Enjoy this video I found Wish I could even sing that good:laugh:

Haha, my name has changed to Stephie on here? Thats a great name for the bump, a pimple. :woohoo: I am leaning towards the name Suki. Tammy, you'll have to get some pictures when you go up. Wish I could head over tomorrow, since Janice will be in my area, but work calls. Anyone going to the bird show in Orlando coming up?

I'm having the same problem as you. I had great boy names, and then the DNA came out as a girl. Figures, ha. Indy is cute, I like that. I was going to name mine Bruce if he was a boy.
-
Man, I don't know. My dogs name is Captain America, but I was thinking something like Suki for the bird. My mom suggested Red, or Sally.
-
She is a girl. We're all stunned, we thought she was the boy, and the other was the girl:blink: Good thing we did test. Now its time to think of names:)

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00176DIHI?smid=A2Y624Y5TXKSKI&tag=nextag-pet-delta-20&linkCode=asn I think thats the one i'm getting. I'm almost sure. It seems like it will be big enough. As for the coconuts Dave, i'm just imagining it, because there are so many around here. My dogs love to shred them, and peel them. We drain them before hand, and start the peel, but they for for hours. I can imagine it being one of the greys favorites. Like, drill the hole to drain and put a rope or something through it.

I would be posting photo-crazy atm if I had the choice. Its up to the breeder to send me pictures though, I wish I could drive all the way over there every week:(
-
Now its just time to watch the little guy/girl grow past all this I can't wait to find out its gender:cheer:

I think I have seen this in the newspaper. There was a insert from a dogs diary to. It was like "Eat, play, ohh pat pat pat, eat, play, eat, scratch, sleep." Then on the other side it showed the cats. Ha:laugh:
-
Glad you are all enjoying it:) Sorry everything isn't going your way at the moment Talon, hang in there. Everything always gets better with time.

Everything came back negative. The granuloma's were probably from a bug bite. I'm beside myself happy:silly:

Thank you for your information Lisa. We bring the Quaker in, her name is Beanie. She went in a couple months ago because we had thought she was at the end of her days due to laying an egg, at the time we didn't know thats what she was doing, we thought she was a boy:S So we freaked because she wouldn't eat much, and sat in the corner of her cage all day, no talking, no loud noises. I think we took her to an emergancy aviary vet though. I think i'll be taking my bird to Dr. LightFoot. I'll look into the perches. I wouldn't be to excited if my bird got sore feet from his perches. Thanks:)

Thank you for that page, it will help me better pick a cage! There are just so many cage options, ha. That cage is actually listed on ebay. I'm not much of a craigs list fan, most cages on there are rusted, or missing pieces. I already have a quaker, have for 12 years. She is so much fun, says so many different things. the noise doesn't bother me at all, i'm use to it. I have 5 dogs, even she (the quaker) is barking now. Dander only bothers my mom, but I have found that the air purifiers work wonders. As for the poop, ever read the book "Everybody poops!" haa:laugh:
