  1. Sounds like a kodak moment. LOL! Keep us posted on how your Greys are getting along.
  2. Red palm oil contains a lot of vitamins that are found in a Grey's diet in the wild. Supposedly it's way better than any other avian nutritional supplements currently available. It's expensive stuff if you buy it at the Grocery Store, but you can find it on various sites on the internet. You should check out previous posts here in this forum on the subject. Search : Red Palm Oil. Lots of info.
  3. SO, this bird is less than a year (7 months) and already has clipped wings. Poor baby!! Maybe you could rescue her? I wouldn't be too alarmed about the growling. The bird was probably stressed, and some birds growl when they meet new people.
  4. I LOVE the cute bird pix!!! Is she pretty good about bathing? My bird hates it. I have to resort to trickery to get her in the shower. Afterwards she's always rewarded with an almond.
  5. Luckily the windows weren't open at the time - they usually are!! She's acting like her normal self. Breathing is normal. As you said, I probably would have observed some tell-tale signs of smoke inhalation. I'm just really thankful that I happened to be home at the time to protect her from what may have been potentially harmful. Thanks for your posts.
  6. Pax also turns up her beak at kiwis!! She isn't overly fond of the green beans I give her either. LOL!
  7. I'm really sorry to hear about your loss too. I haven't read any of your other posts, so I am not familiar with Zahzu's health problems. You have a wonderful community of supporters here. I hope your absence in the forum won't be a long one. Maybe one day soon you'll feel like having another avian companion in your life. Be well.
  8. This happened just about 20 minutes ago- so, I'm still reeling from the "excitement". ::ohmy: Pax and I live in a flat surrounded by car dealerships - Honda,Audi etc. So I was playing on the computer with Pax perched nearby, completely oblivious to anything except to the scent of what smelled like burnt rubber. I looked out my window that faces our backyard and saw on the other side of our fence that a car was engulfed in flames. This happened about 100 feet from my window - so I had a decent view. The smoke was everywhere and the smell was awful. I quickly relocated Pax to the farthest room away from the smoke (our bathroom) . She's still in there and chirping happily. I'm going to keep her in there until that godawful smell is gone. The Fire Department already came and took care of business. Nobody was in the car at the time - just an empty car parked in the lot that for some reason was on fire. Pfffew! I'm glad it's over with. But I'm worried about Pax's few seconds of smoke inhalation. Also, I wonder how bad it could have been for my bird had I not been around to relocate her away from the smoke. Please advise. Lauren (aka Fretful Bird Mother)
  9. Did I mention that my bird also says "Squawk"? She learned it during our model/rival training for the word "peanut". Her model/rival (my roomate) instead of saying the correct word or making an unintelligible sound to deliberately get it wrong, would say "Squawk". Pax says that all the time now!! I've only heard her say "peanut" about twice.
  10. Debbie Reynolds - Singin' in the Rain
  11. Awesome stories! These birds are always so entertaining. I 'm staring to compile a list of the words in my CAG's (Pax) repertoire. She's 1 1/2 now and is picking up on all sorts of words and sounds. Has anyone listened to Ruby the swearing parrot on Youtube yet? Yes, it's explicit language, but she has a really impressive vocabulary!
  12. Hey All, It's been a while since I last posted. Nice to be back:) Okay, I have to say that without a doubt the funniest thing my bird says is "F@*k Off". I was listening to a lot of Ruby the x-rated parrot on Youtube and as a result I couldn't resist the urge to have Pax copy her. Another funny thing she says is "Go Pack go" which my boyfriend taught her (he's a total Cheesehead/Packer fan). I think it's cute despite the fact I'm from Chicago and root for the Bears.

    bad behavior

Wow! That's interesting. They're certainly bright creatures. I can't say that I feel complete sympathy for you because my Parrot likes to land on my head and dangle herself from my hair when she wants attention. Ouch! My hair is pretty long too.
  14. It's very sad for Andrew. I watched a lot of his Tui videos before I got my bird and I became addicted to Tui's little sayings. I loved the "I'll Kick your Ahss" one. She was such a saucy parrot.
  15. Glad to hear an update on Andrew. I'm a big fan of his youtube postings and I was of course very shocked to learn that Tui was missing. I hope he gets another bird and comes back to the forum!
  16. Pax will occasionally do something similar to that - she starts cawing like she means it then proceeds to fly really low - close to the head. I'm not very concerned about it at the moment - it's the kind of thing she likes to do when she's desperate for attention. I get a kick out of it when she does it to guests I'm not fond of.
  17. I love Pax's meows!! They are very authentic And then there is the mimicking of this toy bird whistle I own. You fill the base with water and blow out of the plastic tail and it sounds like birds twittering in the trees. Pax only had to hear it once to start mimicking it incessantly.
  18. These birds certainly are impressive and gorgeous. I too was bummed when I saw that they were priced at $10,000 and up. Seeing one for sale for $500.00 is way too good to be true.
  19. The best thing I've purchased for my Grey is a huge bag of almonds in the shell that were on sale at the grocery store last month! They keep forever and Pax usually eats several a day. They're good bribery tools and healthy!
  20. I Loved the photos and the video! That's some of the best footage of Greys in the wild I've ever seen.
  21. LOL DAve!! I got a huge kick out of that one. I made Pax watch it with the hope she might acquire some rhythm
  22. Hey All, When I got Pax she was trained to wear a flight suit and she seemed pretty comfortable in it. It's been several months now and I haven't been much of a stickler about having her wear it. It will be an arduous process reintroducing her to it. I was just wondering how many of you guys use the suits on your birds and what it takes to get the bird used to wearing one again. I'm also interested in anyone's thoughts on flight suits in general.
  23. Thanks Dave007 for your response. This is the first time I've seen her do anything like this, and now I won't be as alarmed. Right now she's happily chewing on an empty candy box with out a care in the world.

  25. Okay all, I know this is kind of a gross question, but how do you tell the difference between vomiting and regurgitation in a parrot? Pax came up to me this morning and opened her mouth and out spewed some liquid and a piece of food. How worried should I be? She's acting totally normal - you know, singing, talking, eating etc. Thanks.
