1. Thanks that makes me feel so much better! I just keep looking at him and thinking "Don't Change!" By the way- he's already telling himself "Good boy!" Not completely clear, but it's so cute!
2. How dramatically does their personality change as they get older? I read the article posted on here about the different personality and development stages they go through, I just don't want to ever imagine my sweet, playful Indy biting me! He's getting close to 7 months old now. I have other birds so I know the occasional bite is part of it, but Indy is so resiliant, adaptive, and playful. What are your experiences?

Post edited by: edillon5063, at: 2009/05/02 23:34
3. Aw Carol your babies are too cute! I bet you're excited! Yeah this thread is kind of old, I've since posted pics and updates on Indy. But the whole looking for a breeder thing was nervewracking. If I ever get Indy a friend, I'll either rescue one that needs a chance or go with the same breeder.
4. Hey just wanted everyone to know, I picked up my baby feb 6th and evrything was a-okay! Thanks!
5. I think I'm going to go this weekend! So pumped!
6. Working on my playstand...have some questions...I used a mixture of vet wrap and rope to cover the PVC. The vet wrap works great- but Indy seems to want to eat it. Which can't be good, right? The rope- takes forever and ever to wrap tight and knot and even though I wrapped it as tight as I could- parts of it still move a little when he moves around. He also naturally wants to eat the rope- one snap of his beak and portions could unravel. Any suggestions?
7. Indy is now 6 months old, and doing great! However, he is obsessed with chewing EVERYTHING...at first all I noticed it was my hand, and I thought he just didn't like me holding him. But he just likes to chew. On everything all the time. I know a certain amount of baby beaking is normal, but could this be a sign of stress? Or a phase due to his age? I'm going to keep him well stocked in toys he can chew on to keep him off things that he shouldn't, lol...
8. I did the same thing, found a great deal on Craigs, thought I could fix it up, then quickly realized how much it was going to cost to do it the right way. Definately get a new cage. Ebay has great deals as does Amazon.com
9. The person who posted the link on the bird stroller got me thinking and googling... Do you think I could take my grey out in this? I could probably if the front were too slimsy put a travel cage in it and leave the front unzipped? It's a cat/dog stroller so it's fully enclosed. I really think Indy would love to go out and see the world, and we are working with the harness, but I think I'm going to try this! What do you guys think?

Post edited by: edillon5063, at: 2009/03/23 15:55
10. I was the same way when I was waiting to get Indy. I probably drove my poor breeder insane. Once my breeder accidently sent me pictures of a timneh (Indy is a Congo) and I was REALLY worried, lol. But everything turned out to be great though, and I'm sure it will for you too! Your baby is so adorable!
11. So having Indy for about a month now and seeing how amazing he is and reading Alex and Me really got me thinking about all of the African Greys out there without a loving home. I'm a huge believer in rescue, all of my other pets are rescues. So since I know I can not take on any more feathered friends, Indy and I have decided to sponser an African Grey at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. I don't know if any of you guys have ever been there or seen them on Animal Planet, if you ever are in Utah its worth a trip. They have several greys at their sanctuary here's a link if anyone else would like to sponser! http://www.bestfriends.org/atthesanctuary/animals/birds.cfm
12. That is so amazing! Indy wants one!
13. Well like I said- could have been baby jabber that sounded like "hello" but may-be it was hello...time will tell....
14. I know, I am probably crazy, but this story is too funny not to share. I was on the computer the other day and I heard "Hello?" I looked over in astonishment at Indy's cage (he's only 4 1/2 months old) and he was at the very bottom, at eye level with my grey tabby cat Louie. He looked right at Louie and repeated "Hello" Louie looked equally astonished as I know I did. I am probably crazy and it's brobably baby jabber that just SOUNDED like "hello"- but it sounded really clear!
15. I love that name! She is so cute!
16. Indy is doing really great except when he's out all he wants to do is chew on me! He's beaking way to hard and I can't get him to stop. I read some older threads that say tell him "no bite" and stop playing with him. So I tell him "no bite" and put him on his playtop, or try to put him back in his cage, but he hates going back into his cage so that's a process. I'm worried it takes so long to put him back in his cage, he forgets why I'm doing it! I've also tried ignoring it, so he doesn't learn that biting is a way to chase me off and he just pinches harder lol! Does anyone have any advice?
17. I recently finished reading it- very good read! These birds are truly amazing creatures!
18. Couldn't resist posting some more pics- hope these post right and not HUGE- I think I resized them right! He's doing okay- the vet put him on antibiotics for some bacteria in his mouth. He tolerates me handling him- but doesn't really want to snuggle. I guess that's normal since he's only been here 2 days right? He "baby talks" a lot though, and he loves his toys! 19. Is it ok to feed him frozen unsweetened mixed fruit (grapes, cherries, strawberries, peaches, pineapple? Thawed out of coarse. Then I was thinking about mixing it with oatmeal. I'm having trouble getting my 12 week old CAG to eat pellets, it seems he eats veggies and fruit and will eat pellets if I soften them and mix them with it, but just dry pellets he just sits there and breaks the pieces in half. Thanks!
20. Finally picked Indy up from the airport today! Despite a 6 hour flight, he was cool as a cucumber and eager to meet us. the drive from the airport tired him a little though. When we got home, he was trying to "beak" me, and me, being used to my mature senegals who can be a little nippy when they want to- kept jerking my hand away- which in turn made him nervous. But once I relaxed and let him feel my hand- we had a "moment" and we're okay. He's in his cage now happily playing with his toys! I'm trying to post pictures but I cant get them resized! 21. My little Congo is coming a week early! in 2 weeks on Feb 6th....I just found out he's a boy- so out the window goes the name Scarlet- I'm having a hard time with boy names. So far its Indy or Max and I'm leaning toward Indy. But I'm not in love with either of those names. I had bought a cage off Craigs and after reading tons of posts about chipped paint and the risk of- last night I bought a NEW cage. Sigh. The biggest thing I'm worried about is him becoming a one person bird- and worse loving my finance more than me. Sounds silly I know, but animals like him, and I love that my animals like him, and I want my grey to like him, I just don't want my grey to only like him. I plan on spending a ton of one on one quality time with my grey so hopefully it will be ok. My other concern is I'm picking my grey up from the airport probably on a Friday- and I have 3 days to vet check him and I have other birds- will it be ok it take him directly to the vet? I know he'll be freaked out about the flight and leaving his breeder and I don't want to freak him out more. But at the same time I only have 3 days and Sunday my avian vet is closed! Thank you guys so much for your help!
22. What great pictures! You must be so excited!
