Hi Lynette, I haven't been here long and will get my Tag in mid-November. So I need alot of advice and have alot of questions too. On that note, up on the right hand side you will see a white box with "search forum" in it. There holds alot of the answers you might want to questions you might have. Just type in a key word like "foraging" or "kitty litter". Hope it helps. Welcome aboard.!!! Or just ask, there is an abundance of knowledge here just for the asking.:cheer:

Hey bertopires, did someone purchase your grey? You never did say whether it was a CAG or TAG. Good luck with the new baby, when is your child due?

I want to do some remodeling so I have a few questions: I understand that paint has chemicals and smells. If I paint the interior of my home, will the smell affect my grey? If so, how long before I can have my grey in my home? Along that same note, how will re-carpeting affect my grey? Is there something in the new carpet that will affect my grey; or is the concern just the activity involved that would cause a grey distress. I would appreciate any helpful feed back. Thanks.

Hi Tulip, I get my Tag mid-November also!!:silly: Just can't wait. I've brought all the necessities, huge cage (actually humongous) lots of toys, sleeping tent, travel carrier, etc. Am going to try Pretty Bird for Greys after I switch from what the breeder is using. There are posts about different pellets everyones' birds like. Read everything. There is a lot of valuable info here. Welcome to the forum!!!{Feel-good-00020114}

Very good question. One I too have thought about. Before I made a commitment to purchase my baby Tag, I told my grown children (all over 40) I was going to get my long-desired parrot. My son (a cat person) said he would not be interested in caring for a bird if it outlived me. My oldest daughter said, "Mom are you crazy I don't want to take care of a big bird. Get a parakeet." My youngest child said, "It's your money, do what you want as long as you enjoy it and want to take care of it." However, my oldest grandson, (19) stepped up to the plate with a heartfelt promise to care for my new feathered friend when and if need be. And he is the right person, he loves animals, has a good heart, and frankly will still be young enough to enjoy the companionship of a 20+ year-old bird---because I don't intend to go anywhere except on a trip to Greece/Egypt for at least 20 more years!!! {Feel-good-0002006B}<br><br>Post edited by: luvparrots, at: 2008/10/04 09:01

Just look for Tropical Bird Traveler for birds. I purchased a great soft-sided carrier that looks like a backpack from Pet Voyage. 12" x 8.5" x 16". It has a perch inside. It is for attended birds only, for things like vet visits. There are more elaborate ones also. Good luck in you search.:cheer:<br><br>Post edited by: luvparrots, at: 2008/10/04 03:36

Ajilon, how I wish I was as handy as you seem to be. I just don't have the creative mind that you seem to have. Kudos to you for sharing your talents with your local rescue. Bravo!!{Feel-good-000200BB}

Sorry Brittany, maybe you can find a grey you can adopt? Just keeping looking, don't give up. The right parrot for you is out there. Have faith. Good luck. :dry:

Do parrots really like the flight suits? Or do they just tolerate them because they can't get them off? I'm very curious because I would like to know if I should get one for my new Tag. Thanks.

Hey Fairymyst. I love your pics!!! They give me some idea about what my baby Tag will look like, minus the red tail, of course!!! Thanks for sharing.:cheer:<br><br>Post edited by: luvparrots, at: 2008/10/03 19:04

According to Jean Pattison, "When people refer to Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, Congo and Angola Greys, they are referring to the region or country from which these parrots originated. These are their 'street Names' and they refer to 'variations,' not subspecies. "The Cameroon Greys that most people erroneously refer to in the United States are large silver Greys. However, these Greys actually came from the old Congo, turned Zaire, and now turned back to Congo region. Originally, the Congo exported their birds, and they were the largest and lightest in color, the Congo Grey. The Congo ceased exporting their birds, but during this era, Africa was exporting birds out of Ghana, Togo, Cameroon and other countries. But of course, by this time the term Congo Grey was a permanent "generic " label for any red tail. Trappers in Africa were trapping birds in Zaire (the old Congo) and smuggling them to Cameroon. Cameroon would then legally export them out of Africa (legal, but NOT legal). So we in the United States received birds from Zaire* (475-600+ grams) with papers saying the birds originated in Cameroon; and on top of that we continued to also receive birds that actually did originate in Cameroon (425-500 grams). Brokers decided to get more money for the larger parrots, thus marketing them as Cameroon Greys (also, they had to since it was illegal to have Zaire/Congo birds), and then they sold the smaller darker birds as the common generic, Congo Grey (any red tail). Are you confused yet? If not, try this... We now have Cameroon Greys that are really Congo in origin, Zaire Greys that were imported out of Togo; therefore, so much for the 'street names'. HOWEVER, after all is said and done, they are ALL one and the same subpecies, the nominate Psittacus erithacus erithacus." *Note: Importation of wild caught parrots into the Unitied States ceased in 1992 with the enactment of the Wild Bird Conservation Act. Jean Pattison is the Chairman of the African Parrot Society.

Iloveanimals, you sound like a very loving animal person. You are so lucky to have your grey now. I still have to wait 7 more weeks for my baby TAG. I look forward to hearing more about your feathered friend. Whats his/her name?:blink:
