Ana Grey use to try and touch Sully, my Eclectus, with her beak. He would rear up at her and shriek. She has stopped pestering him when I am around (she and I have had many talks about her pestering him) and all is calm now. I don't leave them outside their cages without me because I don't want Sully with his large beak, going after Ana Grey because she wants to be his friend and he is not going for it. Ana Grey is just a year old and Sully is at least 10 years old and much more regal and stand-offish than my rambunctious grey.
My fids go to bed promptly at 9:00 pm if the lights aren't out, Sully, my Eclectus, will shriek and shriek louder until the lights are out. Ana Grey just calming sits on her nite, nite perch until the lights are out. They do not make any noises until they hear me up in the morning.
The choice to clip your bird is yours of course, but please read the many threads here on this subject. Some people wonder why their outgoing loving grey suddenly becomes grumpy and suspicious after it has been clipped. My grey was clipped by her breeder before she was mine and Ana Grey tries everyday to fly. It is heartbreaking to watch her try so hard to do something that she was meant to do and fail every time. Please research the pros and cons before you make such a decision.
Thank you Greg for sharing Lily's story with us. This is my biggest fear that my Ana Grey will take flight. She is so fearless acting but a softy at heart and so spoiled. Karma to you for posting this very informative thread. I am so glad Lily is home safely once again. Hope your feet are feeling better. Don't forget what a great calm and reassuring wife you have, you lucky guy. Where are you taking her for the well deserved dinner????
I have grates in my fids' cages for I don't have a problem with them scratching. They do, however, toss the food they don't really like to get to the "good" stuff at the bottom of the bowl.
