Seriously, when I take Schroeder out, little kids point and say "look at the bird!!! If little kids can tell tags are birds, then this woman must be a special kind of stupid. Next time you see her, please ask which short bus she uses to get to work. I am curious.

Thanks Dave, birdy behaviorist had us do that, no result, we will try again though. Ill let everyone know how things are going in a week or two. I doubt it is fear though because Buddy will let Mike hold him, flip him on his back for snuggles, purrr for Mike and go around the house looking for Mike is Mike isnt around. he seems to really want to spend time with Mike. It reminds me of spousal abuse. We haven't tried increasing the treats yet, I will get on that tomorrow morning and make sure Mike gives him a big bowl of yummy to start the day off with.

We are excited about the tot. Buddy is afraid of oven mitts. If he tries to eat my kid I'm gonna make sure kidlet likes oven mitts more than blankies and teddy bears.

This has nothing to do with birds or keyboard cat....but, IMHO it is the finest YouTube video ever.

Schroeder is 2 1/2 and weighs 345g after his am poo.... He is pretty buff (he is full flight and gets a lot of exercise) I bet he could bench, like 100g if he wanted. He also looks great in his spandex superhero outfit and cape.

Hey guys, I've been out a few months Don't hold it against me As some of you may remember, we have a senegal rescue named Buddy. Buddy is sweet and cuddly, smart and silly. He is perfect.....almost. Buddy's favorite person is my husband, Mike. Mike and buddy have a good boys will be boys relationship and Buddy and I have the snuggly relationship. About 2 mos ago, Buddy started attacking Mike's hands. The bites are very bad, a few have required stitches and exposed bone and muscle tissue. Mike is scheduled to have reconstructive surgery for one of the bites. We have tried giving Buddy a wink and beak trim (previously, we allowed the wings to go au naturale) and that didnt work. We also put Buddy on Mike restriction for a few weeks, as we suspected it was hormonal. Neither worked. We also tried Rescue remedy and increasing his sleep. I should mention that we are NOTlooking to rehome him. We love him and need more suggestions. We need suggestions ASAP because we are expecting our first human hatchling in a few mos and dont want the baby turned to swiss cheese too. (For those of you that are friends of Schroeder's or mine on Facebook, please dont mention this. My mom is on extended vacation and we are waiting till she comes home to tell everyone). I have taken Buddy to the Vet and had a consult with a behaviorist. No results so far. I should also mention that all of the biting has been directed at Mike. Mike is very patient and calm with Buddy and Buddy has been missing his Mike time, so I don't think this is a trustt or aner issue. Buddy is most bitey when there is food around (so we have stopped eating around him) or when Mike is trying to pick Buddy up. That's all I can think of for now, please put on your avian expert hats and see if we can brainstorm this to a happy ending! Oh, and Schroeder is fine He is still my perfect little sidekick!

Next time, consider leaving the broken feathers in, or clipping them at the break point rather than pulling them. Pulling is painful and can damage the follicle. Since he is not in the wild, he really doesnt need his rudder to grow back faster. Having them broken for a few years rather than a couple of months for a pull and regrow is just an aesthetic thing, and if he doesnt care, why should you? For a while, Schroeder only had 2 tail feathers because he had busted the rest playing.....it happens. Just a thought........ Now, if he is upsed at his broken fanny and it is causing him distress, by all means, yank em out, but if they arent buggin him, or the clipped version isnt hurting him, leave them be. The only exception I can think of is if the breal point is clise to the point of the feather nearest the follicle and the break is in a polace where it could split toward the follicle and cause bleeding. That calls for an asap yank.

Mac n cheeeeeeeeez. Mmmmmm, my buns are expanding just thinking of it. I Use a fun shape of pasta, cream, apple smoked cheddar, asiagio, and bits of maple smoked bacon and red pepper (not red bell peppers, but red pepper corns) After baking it, I let it cool in the pan over night and slice into cubes. Sprinkle the cubes with a mixture of flour and corn meal and fry it up in a skillit full o butter. Take a bite and give the rest to your skinny friends while laughing all the way to Victorias Secret. Muahahahahahahahahaha!<br><br>Post edited by: SchroedersJen, at: 2009/10/01 00:58

Does your grey laugh when it's funny?
SchroedersJen replied to Janfromboone's topic in The GREY Lounge

Adding a Blue and Gold macaw to my family
SchroedersJen replied to Satchel's topic in The GREY Lounge
OMG! I am sooooooooo friggin jealous. Macaws smell so good and are a riot! Good luck with your new flockmate!!! -
Wow....am I the only one that thinks that dining room set is 10 seconds away from turning into a chew toy? Great video, thanks for the share

YUP! Buddy (senegal) runs Schroeder (TAG) all over the house. He tried to get into it with a GW macaw when I took him in for grooming last week. Good thing he was in a carrier, though we keep telling him that the macaw really did look scared....really...........

It never occured to me...I use tap water to bathe my fids and dont use aloe anymore (I ran out and noticed that they didn't seem to mind).....Both of my boys look great. I think that whoever was blaming the water was probably grasping at straws. It sounds like hooey to me.

They are catered....thing is you get the bill at the end of the month and you cant afford to pay it because you just had to go out and buy a new wardrobe to accomodate your new chubbies from eating tasty catered food all of the time. Then your credit goes to hell in an hand basket and you lose everything and end up in a box unter the freeway. I wish my sister hadn't turned into such a ... bad word .... when she went in to law school.<br><br>Post edited by: SchroedersJen, at: 2009/09/25 07:34

Going crazy...please help
SchroedersJen replied to amyinaustin's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
If you dont have money to buy tons of new toys right now, you can also try wrapping old toys in brightly colored tissue paper and re hanging them in the cage. You can take normal house hold items like toilet paper tubes and milk jugs and make some great free toys too. Remember that foraging toys dont have to just contain foot too. Large beads, ffoot toys, wads of paper, cupcake wrappers, plastic milk jug rings, plastic spoons, and bits of other chewy stuff can all work. Just so long as it is novel and they have to work for it, they will be entertained and busy. A busy beak is a quiet beak, weather it is eating of ripping apart a new bit o junk. -
Judy has given you some good advice. I agree that your bird is trying to be top dog. Don't take that poop! Assert yourself and be flock leader by giving him space and your grey realize that he misses you and comes groveling back. It might help for you to start giving special attention to another object in the house. This might sound silly, but when Schroeder acts that way, I fawn over my house plants. Tell them they are "handsome boys" (a term I use for Schroeder), and offer them cheese and kisses. I'm sure it looks lame from the outside, but MAN seeing those houseplants get HIS attention usually straightens him out. I am careful not to give extra attention to my other bird or husband, because Schroeder is a jealous brat and typically takes out his anger on the new object of my affection when I have to play that game. A mutilated african violet can be thrown out and replaced. A mutilated husband or senegal has more expensive bills attached.

Both of my birds are late night snackers. I leave food and water bottles in 24/7 in case something happens and my husband and I are unable to come home as planned (example: we were in a really bad auto accident last year and neither of us could come home from the hospital for 4 days. It took 2 days for us to be cooherant enough to ask someone to go to the house and check on Schroeder. I was very glad he had tons of food and water in his cage). I feel that if they aren't hungry, they wont eat. My birds have VERY healthy diets and I am not concerned about them getting overweight.

wooden disposabe chopsticks, espescially if they are still in the paper, are another big hit. Bonus if thhey get a bite of the food that goes along with them too!
-
I know, first hand, how you must feel. I was suspended in high school for taking my insulin against the school nurses wishes. I'm a diabetic and my blood sugar was more than 4 times the safe level......Some people should not be in power. Good luck with everything and enjoy the mini!

Holy cow, only a year? With all you have contributed, I'd have guessed you were a long time fixture We all benefit from you being on the forum, and I look forward to year number 2!

Schroeder squeezes himself on the top of one of his toys that is mounted to the side of his cage about 3 inches from the top and sleeps sandwiched between that and the top of his cage. I tried moving the toy lower, but he threw a fit....... I do not cover the cages. They are too big and my birds are my alarm clock....w/o them throwing a tantrum for breakfast every morning, I wouldn't get up in time for work. That said, they know I like to sleep in on Sundays and typically let me have a few extra hours.
