Oh this is going to be a great thread!! I will try and get creative and definately be on here to get some great ideas. Time to put my thinking cap on. :silly:

We are proud to announce our amazons name is Cooper!{Feel-good-000200BB} Thanks everyone. I am very pleased!!! I think he will learn it fast. Cooper is really smart so I think it will go well. Fergie looks like a little angel up there. Her expression looks like "Hey look what I found up here":) Fergie looks like she is quite pleased with her discovery and herself;) Well, I have to go tell our new fid his official name is Cooper. :woohoo: I think it's a great name, too. And a special thanks to she (sheila) for suggesting it. BTW, I found that Cooper means "Barrel Maker" and also considered a fun and playful name. I'm not sure about the barrel maker part but I think he could eat a barrel in no time flat. He loves to chew wood:ohmy: kinda like Fergie up there.
-
Well Mika is not alone:laugh: Looks like Cooper is winning by a landslide!! Beau has an hour to make a comeback if that's possible:unsure: .

{Feel-good-0002006E} I loved it! I thought I was keeping it a secret that I am/was wierd. Now you have blown all our covers. :woohoo:

Hey Roger, that looks delicious{Nature-00020096} I'll take a plate please;) You should put this recipe in the Recipes/Cookbook link in the bird food room. (It is one of the first threads) We are getting a nice collection of recipes and great things to cook for our greys and this one should be in it, too. That way we can always find it when we need it. I love that you have a picture of it, too. I think my flock would approve{Feel-good-000200BB}

If you find you get him a toy that he doesn't like or play with. Hold on to it anyway. Sometimes my grey won't touch something for a month and then one day it turns into the best thing he has ever seen. They are so funny sometimes. Sounds like you are getting alot of excellent advice from the other members. This is definately the place to ask about anything that concerns you. Keep up the good work. -
New parrot... not a grey though, she sold it!!

Congradulations on your new baby! I love the pictures:laugh: They look so funny sitting up like that. Cracks me up. You should make a photo album of all it's stages starting with those baby pics. -
Ok, one Cooper, one Beau:) The race is on:) Thanks
-
Ok, one for Cooper, thanks!!!

From listening to you guys talk it sounds like these are such wonderful birds. I seen one in a pet shop about a month ago and he was a total clown. I asked them to get him out for me and they did. He came to me and bit me real hard  but with the lady in the pet store he laid back in her arms on his back while she tickled him and it was the cutest thing. They sounds like they would be so much fun to have around but I have my hands full as it is;) Wish I knew someone close that had so I could visit.

Hmmm, we were leaning towards Cooper as his name and then Beau popped up twice:ohmy: We like that too. I am so glad we asked for all your suggestions cuz it doesn't look like we are going to go with our original list at all. I really did like Sampson but hubby didn't like it as much as me. Hubby has decided his name is either going to be Cooper or Beau but he's not sure which one. He wants to name him tonight at 8 pm Eastern time and said to ask you guys which one you like best out of the two names and who ever names comes up the most is what he is going to call him. So the choices are Beau or Cooper. What's it going to be? I can't wait to see what his name is going to be. Thanks everyone who put the names out there. There were a lot of good ones;)

When one of my birds fell, It scared me pretty good too. I put an old blanket on the bottom of the cage and all folded up it was a few inches thick. I felt much better about it after that. Like Judy said, don't stress out about it too much;)
-
Oh my gosh! I am so sorry to hear that. That sounds like a pretty good fall. I hope she is not hurt. Is she acting any differently since this happened? I don't know the answer to this but I'm sure there are other more experienced members that will be able to give you a more knowledgable answer. I just hope she is ok.

Sampson is my favorite off our list too. I just like that name for some reason. Sounds masculine:) We were also trying to think of names that started with a B cuz we have Baxter & Bonkers but we could only come up with Bucky:woohoo:  I think my hubby wants to decide on a name Sunday/tomorrow night so I hope we get some more in. Thanks everyone who has given us names to think about:)

If it is the itty bitty ears of corn like Judy said and you can not find them in the store you can take a big/full size ear of corn and cut them in one inch slices. (I've heard no more than 2 one inch slices per day.) My fids love them but do they make a mess:laugh:

Any more news on Noodles yet? I hope things are going good.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Congradulations on getting your grey and I also commend you for taking in an older grey especially since he has had a troubled past. It sounds like no one really knew how to take care of him properly and give him the time and attention he needs and deserves. Thank goodness you have come to the right place to get advice and give your new friend the best life possible. I got an older 12 year old grey last July and the members on here talked me through everything I needed to know and I am still learning daily. I would start with a good pellet diet, about 65% to 75% pellets and the rest maybe some seeds or fresh fruits and vegetables daily. No apple seeds, fruit pits, fruit seeds, chocolate, avacados, coffee, pop or alcohol. There are some real good threads about what greys can eat and what they shouldn't in the bird food room. I feel so bad for him having sores on his feet. That is the only way he has to hold himself up. I do not know what causes that but would take him to and avian vet to see if he can relieve the pain and get his feet back healthy because they are so important and stand on them all day and night. Also the vet can check him out to see if there are any underlying problems that arent easily detected. Greys hide their sickness so it can be hard to tell. An avian vet can also guide you. Even if he is nippy and scared they are trained to handle the meanest of birds. If he is in pain from his feet or anything else he will be nippy and a biter too cuz he may not feel good. If he has not hand any or much handling then go slow with him. Talk to him as much as you can, read books, talk to him about the weather, just let him know you are there and will be there for him. If you have to leave him alone, leave the tv or radio on for him when you are gone. I am glad that you are dedicated to giving this grey the best life possible. Please read through all the threads and you will get so much information and please ask any and all questions you may have. There are no silly questions on this site and alwasy someone here to help you out. Please let us know your greys name and a picture if you get the chance. We would love to see him. -
Pat that is how my new amazon hangs on his cage when I mist him too. It's so funny. How long have you had Gizmo now? I think it's sweet how you guys share food. Does he come out of the cage on his own yet? And how cute that he stalls for time so he doesn't have to go nite nite:laugh: They are so much like kids. :silly:  :side:

Cooper seems to be a popular choice and we like it too. Hmmm, I wonder if his name is going to be Cooper? I am still hoping I get more names to choose from. Anybody got any other names to throw out there for us?

That is really funny about the vacuum cleaner. I think it's neat how they react to certain sounds. I made some instant pudding earlier today and when I turned the mixer on, he did the same things. Started chatting away. My eclectus will take a bath in his water bowl when I vacuum the room he is in. No, Denny Crane will not be on the list  I think that's the wrong name too but funny. I can just here him "Hi, I'm Denny Crane"

I have to agree with Talon on this one. I have watched the youtube videos and love watching them and it's easy to spend hours watching them. But what you are seeing in alot of them are birds that have been worked with for years and years. And if someone wants a grey and visits youtube and sees them acting so intellegent and funny it is because the owner has put so much time in teaching them. It does not happen overnight but over years. I got a grey in July of this year and he has come a long way but it will be years before he can compare to some of them in the videos and he gets alot of attention. I'm sure there has many many hours of taping just to get a few good clips. The people on here are trying to give you advice. Please don't pick and choose only the things you want to hear. There is tons of good about getting a grey but there is a downside, too especially if you are not willing to accept a grey for who it is. Yes, you can train them to do things but you can not mold them into something they are not.

Ok, my husband got an Double Yellow Head Amazon a few days ago. His story is up in this forum too under DYH Amazon. He was a rescue and living in filth with a bad diet and not handled:angry: This one I really feel like we saved. We need a name for him now. His name was Mojo but we want it changed. New life New Name! We have a few picked out on a list but want more to make sure he gets the right one. Here is a little about his personality. For one he has not been handled but not scared of people. He seems like a gentle giant, but is also quite the clown, too. He hangs upside down in his cage like a bat:laugh: (Love that) Overall he has a very sweet disposition unless we want to touch him. He's not ready yet. He is very very curious too. The names we have on the list so far are Miguel, Travis, Sampson, Brady, Lucas, Nigel, Parker & Stefano. That was our list so far but already got other suggestions of Cooper and Barnum and have added them to the list too. Please let us know if you like the names we have or have another suggestion you like better. We will consider all the names we get!!! Ok, lets name that bird!!! I will get a photo in shortly.
