  1. She looks right at home. Chloe has nice plummage she is so pretty.
  2. Oh yeah nice one Laurie, I think i'm more afraid of that than a bite. Especially if I would lean back on our leather sofa. Then i'd be more afraid of the wife inflicting damage on me....lol...but true! But yes Casper I guess I haven't had that "welcome to the beak of greys" bite, yet. I'm hoping I never experience that. Thanx for the reply guysB)
  3. I train Congo with sunflower seeds and fresh papaya chunks.
  4. Well here's a pic of Congo and I checking out the forum.
  5. Thanks for the replys guys. And yes Congo steps up and down. B)
  6. Look at all those toys she looks so happy.
  7. she looks curious hereB)
  8. I've been training Congo to perch on my shoulder. I know it is advised against but I just enjoy Congo there. The reasons I have heard for discouraging this behavior is because they become dominant. A better reason, in my opinion, is that the bird can bite one of your eyes out or inflict a nasty injury to your face. After considering this I believe there is a danger but maybe with an unknown bird. I wouldn't let a bird I don't know perch on my shoulder. For now Congo is a shoulder bird. So far the worst has been a hard nibble on my ear which tickles a bit more than hurt.
  9. It looks good fcor sunbathing Chloe.
  10. Yeah Congo loves fruit especially papaya. Thanx for replies.
  11. yeah I found someone to do the dna test on saturday for $40. My breeder recomended him.
  12. Sounds like you're making progress flutterby. As Troy continues to work with George trust will begin to establish between them. Although greys do tend to be one person birds I have found the two that I've owned to be very sociable with others. In my opinion greys tend not to be one person birds but they tend to be more responsive to a certain person. Continue doing your research and read all the information you can about greys. You will find a world of that information here on this forum by actually exchanging info with other owners. I noted that you gave George a peanut as a treat. Let me suggest the post in the bird food room the peanut debate; consider reading it and the responses from the other members. Continue to do what you're doing flutterby your on the right track. Soon Troy and George will be best of friends.
  13. I think it might be a good idea Lilo
  14. My grey has been displaying similar behavior. Congo will only step up to me when its in the cage. Congo won't let my daughter, son, or wife take him from the cage he lounges forward and tries to bite their fingers. What i've been doing is letting my daughter (the only one brave enough to try this) give it his favorite treat (fresh papaya) and holding it low. When Congo dips its head down to grab the treat my daughter reaches over with her other hand and speaks to congo softly and pets his head saying step up. We've been making progress today Congo stepped up on her hand from the cage. Here's a pic of the technique. I hope it will help. Just remember that in you case George is 37 years old a lot tougher to teach (I guess) than my 5 month old grey. Just keep practicing.
  15. Man, after reading the peanut debate which offered a great wealth of knowledge, i've come to the conclusion I will not feed my grey peanuts, especially in the shell. Like lovemygreys says, they can contain spores of that mold. I offer my grey a seed mix called Vitaseed which contains peanuts in the shell. Congo has eaten only one peanut from this mix. I have immediately discarded this mix and will never offer it again. I want to tell the sick amazon owner to keep faith and I know that they will get through this. I owned an amazon before and I know how attached we get to our beloved pets. Every ounce of love and care we invest in them do not return empty. I agree that it is a high price to pay for the treat of a peanut. I know that everything we offer has a certain level of risk and common sense is used for discretion. In this case we have to go above and beyond and consider the exposure to the loved members of our family. It's better to be safe than sorry. That's my approach.
  16. That's a nice looking grey broomer and the pics are excellent thanx for sharing.B)
  17. well Cristina I really don't know what it is I suggest you take it to the vet A.S.A.P.
  18. Well I'm having trouble finding someone to dna Congo. Surprisingly there are not many vets in Miami who do it. The wife ordered a kit from the net where you cut the parrots nail(called the quick) and you let a couple of drops of blood soak onto the paper then send it in. But I don't want to hurt my bird! I think I found a vet who will do it professionaly for $150 in the next week or so.
  19. I've seen my grey do the scratching at the bottom of the cage too just like a dog but don't know why? It looks cool though...he he he
  20. Here's Congo eating papaya for the first time. Congo ate a whole slice!
  21. Thanx kitty I will boil some right now and see.
  22. Great story its so good to know that Ceaser is ending up in a good home with family. There are many other pets who end up not so lucky. So congrats and enjoy living with a grey!B)
