  1. Wow! But Scary - you're not going to walk away from that if you have a blow-out!
  2. Thanks for sharing with us Jill. Spikey sounds like a real little character from what you've told us about him, and as Dee days, he was Harvey's predecessor, and as such will always have a special place in your heart. xx
  3. Hope he's feeling better soon, you really MUST get him to a vet, just in case.
  4. Hi Debbie, Diet can certainly have a lot to do with personality, do you know what he was eating before you got him? Feeding him on a purely seed diet could cause him to be overweight, which is VERY bad for a grey Ideally, he should be on a complete pelleted diet, maybe supplemented with some seed (cause they love them!) plus fresh fruit and veg, and the odd treat like the ones you mention. Egg is ok, but in moderation - once a week is more than enough. Alfie gets her eggie treat on a saturday morning mixed with all her suplements! So really, you should be looking to have her dry diet available to her at all times, all though, if you are trying to wean her onto a complete brand, at first, offer it for maybe half an hour or so, then remove it, and so on. Fresh water should be available at all times, and any fresh fruit or veg should be offered, and then removed before it starts to go off. Again, there are many threads on here about diet and feeding, don't be shy about having a good old rake through the threads to find the info you need! This is a website I found useful. http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/africangreys/a/africangreys_3.htm Lyn & Alfie. x

  6. Yes Penny, David made it. In the first place, because when Alfie started to chew her tail, it was suggested to us it may have been because of the birdie bunk she had! She couldn't turn round in it without her tail touching the sides, so we made a bigger one! She took to it instantly!
  7. lol - funny thread! We use to have a small holding and got school trips etc coming to see the animals, and I swear some of these kids had no idea what they were looking at - one thought the chickens were fat budgies, another thought the sheep were "curly dogs"!, and most of them were completely dumbfounded bye the goats! It's hard to believe when you've been brought up with animals but there you go!
  8. Hi Kat and welcome! You have no grey? how awful for you!! Lol - just kidding! Your Quaker and Senegal are most certainly full of delights and we look forward to hearing more about them, and you! Lyn & Alfie.

    I SPY

katana600 wrote: Haha Dee - I'm just back on here - I got that one!!! Lol Janet - that was a hard one!!! Bernie - could it be.......The Moon? I spy with my little eye something beginning with A.G. with B. on her B.! Alfie bit me today!
  12. Now that's the mentalist thing I've seen in a while!! :woohoo:
  13. It does very much depend on the bird as Janet has said. Alfie will be two years old in february and she still loves her bed. The first one we bought for her - it was called a Birdie Bunk. The one she uses now is homemade and is big enough so she can stand up and turn round without really touching the sides. It has a base of 12" x 12" with an apex top about 11" at the highest sloping down to 7" at the top of the walls. Alfie absolutely loves her bed which is hung in her cage. Sometimes during the day she will sit on top of it, and there is a perch higer up still, but she prefers to sleep in her bed. Here is a link to a thread on here where people have posted pics of their cages, and in my case, Alfies birdy bunk too! http://www.greyforums.net/forums/cages-&-homes/143481-show-us-your-cage.html#179574 Hope this helps.
  14. Alfies bed. It's a bit rough around the edges, but we re-cover it every so often, and I left like a "curtain" at the back and shreded it, which she likes to play with and hang off. For the chains that are hanging it up, and bolts holding it together, we recycled other birdy thing so the materials are safe. She does love her bed and is always still in it when we uncover her in the morning!
  15. Hi Debbie, First of all, karma to you for choosing an older bird over a baby - babies are sooo cute but there are just so many older birds needing loving homes - you've done a good thing! I have a fully flighted grey and she thinks nothing at all about going down to the floor for a little walk about! She'll go down there if something catches her eye, or to interact with the dogs, or to walk through a door that's too closed to fly through! Just be mindful that Ollie's down there when you are walking around! There are many informative threads on here as to what will and will not harm your grey - feel free to have a browse through the forum. Here is a list of the most common things you must not give your bird. 1.chocolate 2.apple seeds 3.advacado 4. onions 5.salt (While all living beings need regulated amounts of sodium in their systems, too much salt can lead to a host of health problems in birds, including excessive thirst, dehydration, kidney dysfunction, and death. Be sure to keep watch over the amount of salty foods your bird consumes). 6. alcohol 7.mushrooms 8.tomato leaves 9. caffiene 10. dried beans Also, scented candles are a no go, teflon coated utensils are deadly when heated, inscense sticks, most household cleaners etc - anything that gives off fumes can be harmful to your bird. I've never made a playpen for Alfie, but looking forward to seeing yours and hearing how Ollie gets on with it! Lyn & Alfie.

  17. {Feel-good-0002006E} Love it Jen , thanks!! Funny Sheila!! I bet they felt silly!! These two are really worth watching! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muLIPWjks_M

  19. Sindbad wrote: Do NOT feel this way - this guy didn't skip a beat when you offered to buy the bird. If he was a genuine bird lover (or even just genuine!) he wouldn't even have considered it. Ona positive note, you don't have to worry about getting Sinbad back from him now, which sure sounded like it was going to be tricky. Janet's school idea is a good one. Please don't give up - we are praying for you.

    Why?

Dave007 wrote: Lol ok ok Dave! So maybe it was a slightly silly question - it's not my grey tho - Alfie LOVES my man!! And I can understand a dog never getting over it, I have a rescue who still gets a little nervey in certain circumstances, but greys are sposed to be more intelligent than a dog and it just doesn't make sense in my head how a grey doesn't work out, ok, that one was mean, but this one isn't. I know they're all different and they won't all react the same way! Just one of those little things I've been wondering about! Thanks for all the replies!
  21. Hi dsk Welcome to the forum! Looking forward to hearing more about Piccolo and her new feathered friends, and maybe seeing some pics! Lyn & Alfie x
  22. Supernova wrote: Oh dear, Bernie - you are having a rough time. I have to admit, I think the snow is perty, but c'mon - enough is enough! I have a swimming pool where my field should be!! You have my sympathy Bernie, but to be fair, if the snow went tomorrow - you would have nothing to moan about!
  23. That is so sweet Carol! It's so exciting when something new pops up! Thanks for sharing.
  24. Haha! Yes that must be it!! Royal contacts! Well she's not going to tell the poor relatives about them is she!!! Lol - yes Julie - One is most amused!
