Talon wrote: Lol - it is called the WEIGHT & EXERCISE SUPPORT GROUP after all!! Judy is right though, the word diet should be banned! So from today, I am officially dropping my diet, and going on a new Lifestyle modification, weight dropping and immune system boosting Programme! (Diet is less of a mouthful though!!)

I have to add though Tom, you are really lucky that he trusts you as much as he does after only a couple of days! Be careful not to push as he may back off a little. He sounds like a real sweetie!
-
Haha - well that's easy then! If he doesn't mind you touching his head, just leave it there and don't push for anything else until he is ready. I do understand you wanting to pet him - they are soooo hard to resist - sometimes I just want to give Alfie a big kiss and cuddle, but I daren't unless I want my lip pierced!!

Geez! So when is it ok for a woman to diet? I'm having to squeeze into jeans I've been wearing happily for years! Hopefully I'll still be a woman after I've lost a couple of pounds!!!!!

Poor Francis. I hope he feels better soon.

Ooh Summer you have my sympathy. It is very upsetting when you start to get bitten. Hopefully it is just a phase and you will get your sweet baby back.
-
Lol - understandable Tom, but you're a bloke (I assume!) You can handle it!! Anyway the regular test bites don't hurt at all.

Hi Tom Some people here on the forum have never ever been bit by their greys. Alas, I'm not one of them. I have had several bad ones from Alfie, but there usually is a reason for it! There are several ways to avoid severe bites, though - learn to read him body language and simply don't give him the chance to bite, here is a link to a useful thread on the subject http://www.greyforums.net/forums/limitstart/20/training/109373-body-language-most-frequently-seen.html Also, if you are worried about being bit, the worse thing you can do is let him know it. Instead, ball your hand up into a fist (tight skin - harder to nip) and offer it confidently! And, if you do get a nip, try not to react - my grey takes great pleasure in pulling my hair and then letting out my squeal before I do - she thinks it's hilarious!! If they are nipping through devilment, they soon tire of it when there is no reaction!! I do think though, Ollie is just being cautious at this stage, give him plenty of toys he can chew, so he doesn't feel so inclined to chomp on your clothes!

Tomcat wrote: You've hit the nail on the head there Tom. It's still very early days and Ollie is doing expectionally well by coming as close as he is this soon! I expect you are right about him biting your jeans, he is testing that they are worthy of him standing on, lol! He will do the same with you fingers before he steps up onto your hand. Greys use their beaks very much as an extra leg, my grey still often takes a hold with her beak before she climbs onto my hand. She will be 2yo next month. With regards to him letting you scratch him, and then seem to want to bite, that could be his way of telling you he's had enough. Alfie will do this with me, although when she is in a more mellow mood, she will take a hold of my finger gently, and remove it to an acceptable distance!! Key word here is patience, but it sounds as if you are going about things the right way. Good luck with him and keep us posted!

Hi Tom and welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your first grey, they are awesome aren't they! You sound like you love him to bits already! Lol - Alfie "pops" too, not too sure what it means though, but I think it's a happy little sound. Looking forward to hearing more from you and about Ollie, and maybe some pics too? Glad to have you here. Lyn & Alfie.

Hi Kevin and welcome! Wow what a wonderful introduction! Thank you for your kind comments regarding the forum! Keep trying with the photos - it took me a while to get the hang of it too, but photobucket.com is def the way to go, and very easy once you get it! Looking forward to seeing those pics! Lyn & Alfie

Bernie, I would be very happy if I was 10-4! Even if I was I wouldn't be skinny - but your right - it is a question of being happy about yourself, I'm just not at the minute! I put on a stone this past year - enough is enough! Jill - that's basically what we've been doing - so sweeties or junk. Today we had a treat though!!
-
So glad to hear Wyatt is goin gto be ok - thanks, in no small measure, to your quick and calm actions, I'm sure. I havae nice dedicated speed dial buttons on my phone, and my bird vet is one of them. You never know!!

Talon wrote: Lol - David says he will make one for you - mates rates!! Postage would probly be a killer though!! The first one we made was with the slats off a pine bed. This one is with a type of plastic board that we had leftover after kitting out a Tattoo Studio recently. It's that hygenic stuff that just wipes clean - can't think what it's called. The sides and floor are covered independantly of each other. Then the sides are attached to the bottom with L shaped wall brackets. Hope that makes sense! The next time we re-cover it I'll try and remember to take pics.

Wonderful news Janet - he's a cutie!

Sorry to hear about the spot of trouble you're having with Darius, Pat. Being bitten is hard, but watching conflict between two people you love is even harder. On a positive note, at least you will soon be finally able to score that bird room off your to-do list!! I hope it settles things down for you!
-
First of all, Welcome! It would be nice to hear a little about you and your feathered friend - why not go to the introduction room and tell us a bit about you? With regards the cd, I agree with Supernova - nothing can substitute one on one time for teaching your grey new words. However, very few of us can be with our birds 24/7, and for when I'm away, I have one of these... http://www.24parrot.com/product.asp?pf_id=8040&QSI=24ee0cec-3df5-4145-8510-9901ef30530a You can digitally record approx. 30 seconds of whatever you like, and set it to play back continually at an interval of your choosing - anything from around 10 seconds to 30 minutes I think (I don't have the packaging now) The advantage of this over cds are numerous - 1) the bird is learning YOUR voice, and not some strangers, 2) you can choose what your bird learns (no more useless quacks or barks, although they are cute!!) 3)You can re-record, so you're not stuck with the same 3 or 4 phrases all the time! I didn't find it that expensive considering how much use I get out of it - I put it on nearly everytime I go out! Hope this helps! Lyn & Alfie

Nice post Dan, thanks for sharing! I'm completely into owls after reading about Wesley!! How cute are these though?! THey look like little furbeys!!! Hope they don't keep you awake!!
