And starting to look like parrots. T-Minus 50 Days and counting. Maybe sooner if the wean fast but do not want to rush it. Perfection takes time;)
-
They are finally starting Perch.

I think I confirmed that today. I took the rest of the preening toy and pulled it apart and put it in an extra bowl and put the egg in it without touching it with my hands. She pulled all the material out of the bowl and the egg fell to the bottom of the cage. There is a crack in it but does not seem to have gone all the way through. Should I take the egg out?

Pardon my ignorance but she seems like such a small bird to have two or three more eggs in her, maybe that is just nature, the other thing I have noticed is that she laid it at the bottom of the cage, she has been trying to make a nest out of a preening toy in the cage and she built up the material in the corner of the cage but she laid it right out in the open and she has not been roosting on it, she just leaves it at the bottom of the cage while she is on a perch. Now should I put it into a nest?, put it in a bowl with nesting material? just leave it? will it get rotten?

I am puzzled. About 6 months ago we rehomed two birds from one of my wife's coworkers, their kids didn't want them anymore and we were more than willing to take them in. They have been together since they were in the pet store together as babies. The female "Molly" is a peached face lovebird, the male "Walter" is a budgie. Now I feel that they are bonded because Molly will regurgitate for Walter and whenever I take Molly out of the cage They constantly call back and forth to each other. They are almost inseperable. Tonight we came home and Molly has laid an egg. First of many questions is will this egg hatch because there is a mate?, Will molly lay more eggs in the next few days? I have read the other posts that say to feed her lots of calcium and to let her roost the egg(s) for at least 21 days. Any suggestions?

We have decided a name, we had it picked out about a year ago when we thought we were first going to get a TAG. It's name with be Aeo ,after some research I found the name in a book of baby names. I believe it means "Joy" Aeodele means "my joy has come home" If it is a female I think it will be Aeodele and if it is a male it will be Aeo. Nevaeh I have heard before. one of my coworker's granddaughter's name is Nevaeh not sure if it is the same spelling but sounds close.

I am not sure how long from date of lay to hatching. The lady started weaning these about a week ago and I know some breeders let the chicks stay with mom and dad for up to three weeks or more so I would have to say they are about a month old maybe less, I am just guessing.

Absolutely cannot wait I am by no stretch of the imagination a patient person and it just kills me, even more so now that I have pictures. If she had to predict a time she is guessing around the end of August. She lives about 5 hours away which makes frequent trips difficult but we will try to get up there at least once.

And the last one for now.

Here are some pictures of the babies that I get to choose from, when they get old enough she is going to have them sexed. She is keeping one female and one of the others is already picked but they do not have a preference. Hope you enjoy.

Alright it is offical. After requesting some info from the seller I now believe that it is truly a scam. The seller said he could have the birds shipped to my door for $120!!!!!!!!!! I found a company in my area that said that price would not even cover the ticket to fly, also they wanted me to pay the shipping company the cost to ship and his adoption fee, it did not make a lot of sense. Just thought I would let you know. Thanks for all the advice.
-
Actually I was to pay the deliver company for the birds only when they were delivered to my door. The only money they wanted was the adoption fee, however while still interested in these birds I did ask for their names, address, and phone numbers, the same of their vet who was going to do the health check, I also wanted pictures of the birds, cages, surroundings, and with the owners interacting with them and I have yet to receive any acknowledgement of the email OR any of that information. If anything else I hope to get the word out to others about them. They are from Helena Montana just FYI.
-
If I may ask what tips you off to the fact that it is a scam. I was catious about the deal but I was not really convinced that it was real or a scam. Just looking for info on what to look out for.

Well actually I have had birds before. I had a cockatiel that now resides with some family, several years ago we did quite a lot of moving and decided it was better to leave him in a stable enviroment. I currently have a lovebird and a parakeet, by no means the caliber of a Grey but I just recently lost a Quaker parrot who was a very lively bird with a lot of personality. Luvparrots we live about 4 hours from the birds but we do plan on making at least one trip when they are old enough to observe their personalities and make a descision on which one picks us. I love pictures too so I plan on getting as many as I can and will be sharing.

I am not terribly new to the forum, I have been here for about a year. When I origianlly joined we were in the process of researching and looking for a breeder in our area. We did find one but were unable to get a Grey then. However as of yesterday I talked with a lady that weans TAG's and she has one out of clutch of three that needs adopting so we are it. They will start weaning this weekend and depending on how they progress through the weaning process we should be able to pick baby up at the end of August. We are soooooooooooo excited about finally being able to partake of the fun, joy, and work of being owned by a Grey. I want to thank ALL of you who have posted threads of every feasible topic because over the past two years I have been able to read and enjoy the information from you who have been there. I feel confident in the knowledge and wisdom that you all have to impart will make this new experience in our life maybe a little less hair raising. We will have to see. I don't know how I am going to handle it I am NOT a patient person AT ALL these next several months are going to be torture. Can't wait...

In my recent attempts to try to find an African Grey I was directed towards someone in Montana. They have two African Greys that they NEED to rehome, they moved to a house in which the landlord does not want the birds in the house so they are sitting in a garage. They have a Male and Female they are about 1 year and 8 months and 1 year and 11 months old. They claim they are hand tame and very much "lap birds" She had a VERY reasonable adoption fee that included the cages and health papers. And they had a pet delivery service that was able to deliver to your front door. I live in Illinois so it was going to be a costly venture to ship and with the other assosciated shipping costs for the distance we would have only been able to get one of the birds and I did not feel right about only getting one of them and not both. So we were unable to help her rehome them, but if any of you guys out there know of anyone that can give these guys a home let me know and I can in turn let them know. Just getting the work out. I would hate to see those birds sitting in a garage for very long.

Awesome pictures. Does anyone know what causes the red variation?
-
What heartbreaking news and a tragic loss for the entire bird community. I belive the birds will miss him as much as we will.
-
I wish you the best of luck in your endevor to fill an open spot in your local market. As I live in the states I would not be able to go to your store but as another opinion I would gladly fill out a survey.

On this same idea when I get my TAG in September and take it for it's first well bird check up, what kind of tests do I absolutley need to have done and what others are a good idea to have done if any or all?

I just bought a used cage from a local lady who has had several birds in the past. She is still an avid bird collector and when I picked up the cage she pointed out that there is some rust on the collection pan ( metal ) and on the grate above the collection pan. She suggested to paint it with some enamel paint. Is this safe for the bird as long as it has had enough time for the pain to dry and air out. Can I paint it with some rust inhibiting paint. Any suggestions?
