I must agree with lovemygreys but im new to this and couldnt trust my baby grey out alone not even for 5 mins mayb when he becomes older this may work and id like to think so but it only takes 1 mistake or wire! im not sure but if you do this now and then later on in his life you have to start locking him away he might not understand why and get annoyed dont take my word for that thou.

Thanks, feel a little happier now. god he worries me sometimes lol.

yesterday afternoon i let my AG out and as usual he did his little flying routine but caught himself on a wall. When he landed on me i noticed a wing feather was sticking out at 90 Degrees. He seemed less stressed than me about it and didnt mind me touching or pushing the feather which pushed back nearly inline. Every time he flew after that the feather would move back out and at a really funny angle (90 degrees)i could see he was a lil distressed when flying. but once he was on his play stand he seemed fine. This morning he came out of his cage flew about the room and what i think was the same feather flew to the floor. Just wanna be safe than sorry!

o and i love the name Lyric

Nyschsa - Harry does exactly the same running up and down the windowsill i could swear he is racing him self. Lovemygreys - Thanks for the link. Ive watched alot about alex its amazing how intellegent he was
-
Heres a quick one. The most intelegent animals know what a reflection is and as an african grey is well up there does a grey look at their reflection and know its them or do they think its another bird?
-
Thats a nice selection ^ looking forward to harry learning words clearly. he has recently picked up my pond fountain and its amazing how realistic it sounds.

Harry started whistling straight away at 3 months old and now sounds like he says hello but its not that clear. hes trying awwww! . I just keep talking to him and always say water when he drinks and name each fruit when he eats it. I want him to be able to ask for it later in life. little stress if you know what they want.great idea on the poll by the way

Arnt you the lucky one M2MM lol Harry really wants what ever im having for dinner. Thanks for the tip on the pasta that keeps him busy while i eat . He has a thing for Carrot and Broccoli too. He was scared of brocolli first time he saw it and now eats loads (nutty bird)
-
Thanks Lovemygreys, thats really helped. Im doing these but will work on the shared attention side of things more. Once again many thanks.

I see everyone is feeding there parrots alot more than i am mine. Harry (AG) is currently on Harrisons all day round with some fresh fruit in another bowl. This is what i was told by my avian vet. Is he definatly getting everything he needs from the harrisons and fruit??

Thanks for the caring and warm welcome, he has become very very very close with me things have just got better and better. He is now pritty much toilet trained and wont poo on me or any furniture but will only go in the right place if i take him there and for a treat (too clever for me ) He has suddenly had a bad turn towards all new people thou. wont even take a treat off of them any one got any ideas?
-
Hi, i have now got mine pritty much trained. Siobha is right in that they nearly always poo as soon as they come out of the cage so take them to the desired place. (mine is a cat litter tray) Look out for the signals, Harry (my 5 month grey) rubs his beak alot when he wants to go either on me or the perch he is on. Before he goes he will shuffle backwards try grabbingg him and getting him there before he goes and lots of praise and a treat when he does it right. he still wont fly there on his own thou (lazy bird) hope this essay helps
-
Harry does this aswell my vet said its just like a habit or twitch, he did it alot more when i first got him 5 months ago to now. He also does this loads when he is throwing his juicy grape from one side to the other into a wall! i could swear he does this on purpose!

Thanks all!!! Thats very helpful, althou harry enjoys the carry case watching the birds fly over head he gets bored quick and ends up cowering from the big noisy birds (Planes lol)

Sorry if this has been bought up already but couldnt find it. i really want to get Harry my grey a nice avery to play in when im with him in the sun. I havent got his wings clipped (and dont want to) and being a baby im sure he would take any oppurtunity to fly off. i recently read an article about a lady who made one from PVC pipe and netting which seems like a good idea untill the wind blows. I found a couple of good websites but the price is too expensive for such a small area of cage. Does anyone here have any ideas? Thanks
-
I beleive it does, have you tried using a treat holding your hand between the treat and him so he has to step up to get to the treat. Every now and then Harry tries to walk around my hand but will do almost anything for a honey coated bannana treat.

Welcome to the Forum Carolyn. Everyone here is very helpful so im sure you will find everything you need. Im far from an expert but your more than welcome to ask. Do you have any pictures and can you tell us more about your Grey. Whats his/her name?
-
Welcome Tonja and Harley, i am a new member to and only joined yesterday, you have the same cage as me. he looks like a lovely bird i wish i had the time to hand rear my own. My parrot is now 5 months old and is nearly potty trained, he is just too lazy to fly to his tray
-
looking to join, recently been biten but Harry as he now knows to only grab the tinest bit of skin more like a pinch which is kinda painful. he has also got a massive fetish for my feet, toes and like judy he sits on my shoulder so he is nibbling on my ear
-
My grey does the same untill i go near the door of the cage then he is alert and ready to get out but be careful and dont let him assosiate scratching with getting your attention and being let out.
-
a simple method is eating them yourself - with my grey harry, he hated the idea and wouldnt touch them for 3 days. this isnt the nicest way but let him see your eating 1 or 2 and it may change his mind.
-
Thanks again Judy i think ill stop the poo training and see if we can improve the biting behavior. i dont mind a nibble just dont like painful bites. Ill spend time with him tonight and work out our differences:P thanks for your help
-
His name is Harry by the way Danmcq. a great and lovely bird appart from the above as you can tell. i think this is a great forum seems like everyone is really nice.

Picures are on there way Judy but thank you so much for your speedy response. Iv been reading the forum for a while now and found it very very useful. not really sure how to completely use this but will do my very best to not repost the same things 20 times . If i have questions should i start a new topic if they havent been answred. i hope i dont bore you but will give you a quick insight if you dont mind. (too late) As i have said he was brilliant and trusting and loving and everything i could ever want from any pet + even more i fell in love with him straight away. suddenly he has started to become really aggressive. he is desperate to get out his cage so i get him out and play with him as soon and often as possible but recently he wants to bite me and not do anything i want. if its time to go away he KNOWS and he will put up a fight. Iv begun toilet training and think this may have something to do with it. He shuffles backwards and rubs his beak which seems to be his signs! so i get him to designated area and treat him when he does but now he goes to poo and seems scared of me picking him up. ever since we started this the agression has slowly got worse and his biting from playful chewing to painful nips. sorry about the essay but this is really upsetting me and harry and the relationship is becoming stressfull. i want the fun cuddly harry back
