I cant beleive it!!! i took a week off work and shared most of my time with Harry. I went down stairs after he was naughty and heard him whistling and calling and making some throaty noises so i recorded it. I played it back and to my shock you can hear little harry say "Hello, What you doing" i was so happy and proud. dancing around the house. I just wonder how long he has been talking for but not showing me, now the challenge is to get him to talk to me rather than himself B) i also recently read the thread about no-one understanding our passion. Im so proud and dont know who to tell my friends dont understand how happy i am and proud of my lil feathered friend . so who better to tell than a whole world of people who do. Thanks every one for your support here it is appreciated and really has helped as he is my first bird.

Dont know if anyone else has tried this but i used model training last night. It was incredible in the space of 20 mins i had harry who only mumbles hello to mumble and nearly perfect Thankyou when taking a treat. I really recommend this it works and harry enjoyed it too. Instructions Have another person sit with you and the parrot in a triangle. offer the treat to the person and make them say thank you. once they get it right give them the treat to play with or eat. repeat this a few times and every now and then make them get it wrong and dont give the treat or praise. Slowly introduce the parrot if he makes a noise at the right time give the treat and slowly make him/her try harder they will get closer each time. for the treat i used TINY amounts of cheese which i heard was good on here and harry loves it :woohoo: I cant wait to get back from work and do this again. Has anyone else tried this, had any success or found a way to take this to the next level?

My Friend owns an amazon, they are not as expensive as a grey and dont talk as much but he does talk a reasonable amount Think they are only a couple of hundred cheaper but they are smaller. The only thing with his amazon and i beleive they all do it is SKREETCH - very loudly

similar with mine, harry mainly pinnes his eyes when he is ready for a scratch as my hand gets close to the back of his neck and his feathers all go up Just an add to this eyes question page; what age do the greys eyes start to go yellow? mine has begun but his birth certificate says he is only 7 and half months old and i heard it was after a year. This also raises the question of what a birth certificate should look like.

Welcome to the site. Im a new owner myself i would recommend taking it at the greys pace. he will let you know when he is ready just try but take things slow as it will take him time to get used to you and his new home. Is he a baby? Im sure more will be able to give better advise than me. But congrats on your new family member. B)

Thought some might be interested and maybe help with a solution. A few days ago i went outside to find a pigeon sat in the windowsil and looked like he had been there all night. I of course now being a complete bird lover put out some food for him. When he came down and got close i could see the rings so im prssuming its a racing pigeon thats got lost. (not a good one) He hasnt moved for 5 days now he comes down and flyes from roof top to roof top but sleeps on a tiny windowsil so im sure he is uncompfortable. I Obviously tried introducing Harry in a travel cage and being the adorable bird he is he whistled away to him Im not really sure what to do, i was hoping he was stopping for a rest but seems like he is now here to stay. Has onyone had this happen before and what would you recomend doing? Thanks

Harry is my first african grey and i cant beleive some of the sounds and noises which keep coming out of his little beak. I was wondering does anyone know, can parrots just mimic whistling or can they make there own tunes? I keep hearing differnt whistling tunes and think he is making them up himself as i dont remember ever whistling those with him if that makes sense lol
