hi guys really sad today as i wrote last week was supposed to be choosing my baby, last week she had 2 greys in and was due to have 2 more in this week so i would have 4 to choose from. been down this morning and she sold them all because she knows i dont want mine until July and she felt it unfair on the bird to keep him in pet shop until then. This i completley understand, but today there was a part time assistant in shop who told me that last weeks birds were already sold:angry: , i am just annoyed that she has not been totally honest with me. I have had to be cicvil to the woman as there is nowhere else where I can but my grey from, she seems to be the only supplier in stoke-on-trent uk!.. Anyway I have been reasured that there is a baby for me who will be ready in 3weeks time the only thing is there I dont get a choice:( keep you updated, (one rather upset prospective grey mum)

hi all just got this playstand ready for my baby, as you can see (if the picture uploaded that is ) it's got dowel perches, i know these are safe but they seem very slippery:unsure: im sure I read somewhere that im best roughing them up as they can give foot problems?, what do you guys suggest?? a bit of snadpaper or cut some notches in? i do have a minderal perch and congrete perch and a java tree perch ready for in his cage so he will have a variety there. thanks for any advice guys

Post edited by: di2008, at: 2008/06/03 10:57 stand.doc stand.doc

:silly: ahh thanx guys,, shan't be able to sleep a wink tonight, thanks for all the great advice (as usual). I dont my reasons, really, for wanting a boy just that i've heard they bond better with women(dont know how true) and being as it's gonna be my baby ( but will make everyone try to bond with it)i just thought a boy may be better. I have got an open mind though because like every one said if the female chooses me I will be just as overjoyed . I think the other thing that might be pushing me towards a boy is with being a first time grey mum I don't really know about nesting habbits in females, I would though as usual learn it from all you lovley grey mums and dads out there thanks again every one:P

hi wastrox clipping is an individual choice from what i can see, but can't you have blinds or something up at these windows so that the bird will not fly into them?im having my grey in july but im trying to prepare my home in time for his homecoming, i too have very large picture windows, so im getting blinds and have 2 very large mirrors which i have moved to other rooms, but then i want a flighted bird and thats just my personal choice, i think whatever you decide to do people will not judge provided you get it done by a qualified vet di

hi andrew, i am so sorry for your loss,i cannot imagine how you are feeling, i have thought about you and tui everyday since you lost her. you have been my inspiration and the reason for me wanting an african grey since finding you both on youtube last summer, i have always wanted a parrot but seeing you and tui kinda made me do something about it, i am due to have my grey in july. i havnt had the joys of bonding and all the love that comes with being a parrot mum yet but have been brought to tears by ur sad loss , i hope and pray that you gat tui back.i am driving people nuts already aout my grey so dont know what i'll be like when i do get him any ways im starting to ramble now so i'll just send all my love and prayers and say "keep ya chin up" xxxx di

hi amy i not got any advice as such ( not yet got my grey )but from all the threads ive read on here he'll be fine;)xx ,and if you've stressed for your parents to NOT let him out of the cage then there'll be nothing to worry about, just wait till you come home and the greeting he will give you will have been worth it, he will miss you just as much as you miss him, so don't worry hunni and go off on your jollies and enjoy yourself B) xx and you are only going to be gone for a few days:P :silly:

your right danmcq july seems ages away B) but thanks for the reply. I already know they the shop feeds them on a seed based diet which i have already decided to change once my grey comes home but you see he will be in the shop from next week until the end july because of my summer hol, i cant see the point of bringing him home only to leave him again for a week in a strange place with two even stranger teenagers:blink: , so he will be on a seed diet until then do u recomend i stay with the seed at first then wean him gradually once he gets used to me?? and thanks for the reasurance I shall pop into the shop at least twice a week thanks again

:) Hi I will be getting my grey around the middle of July, can't seem to find a breeder locally so im having him from a local pet shop who has had parrots for as long as i can remember and i'm 42( )I just read lovemygreys post on bringing home your baby(excellent advice) but how will I know if he's been lovingly hand reard so that I can handle him soon as get him home, I have asked at the shop and they say that all their parrots are hand reared, but isn't that what they going to say that as thats what people want a hand reared one? or am I being silly:unsure: i'm due to put a deposite on him next week and would love to have as much contact with him b4 i bring him home but because he's in a shop I will feel awkward poping in and out all the time:blink: what do you guys think it's really appriciated:)
