  1. this wasn't a toy EFGRIFFITH this was a food treat, and a well known name here in the uk too, needless to say i shan't be buying any more of them...just keep your eyes peeled guys  Post edited by: di2008, at: 2008/10/22 14:33<br><br>Post edited by: di2008, at: 2008/10/22 15:32
  2. those pics are great i love looking at people's photo's thanks for sharing them with us
  3. i have just watched monty totally destroy a parrot treat( a vitacraft twinis) he has had hanging on his java tree for a couple weeks. up till now he didnt seem interested but i was playing with it with him and he decided he liked it. as he got thorugh the bread type thing he noticed the wood it was attatched too and started to chew on that(because wood is more tasy than treats obviously:unsure:  ) and the to my horror i saw a staple wich attatched the wire to the wood, i was horrified that these should be used in the way, the other treats he's had have neen moulded around plastic.. surley they know that the parrot will have a go at chewing the wood once he's found it??? good job i was watching him:angry: here's a pic of what i found. this is the treat the wire is very sharp too.. thought i'd just mention it incase any other people give these to their birds, please supervise them..
  4. thanks shelia for your kind words, i do worry a little when doing things that he is not used to, but then again he is only just a little over 6 1/2 months so keep telling myself the vet is right and he will get used to it. i must say that i feel tonight 9.30 maybe a little too early and should maybe be 10pm. ive been up twice and checked on him creeped onto the landing and can hear him climbing around his cage:blink:  if i find that he's not settling and keeps us awake(i dont mind being kept awake just means that he's awake too tho) then he will just have to go back to normal in his big cage wat he's used to. but just feel that for his own sake even if i not happy with it then must do what the vet suggest.. thanks once again for your reply and previous kind words xx karma to you xx
  5. well vet suggested it , so i've done it  ive put monty upto bed at 9.30pm in a sleep cage in our bedroom until i get the spare room cleaned out next week.. i am so used to having him up till 11.30-12.00 im missing him already:( will he be ok?? am i doing the right thing?? will we disturb him when we go to bed?? i have covered him up too and he has never been covered up before.. wont all this new stuff stress him out?? sorry so many questions, but the vet suggested it as a means to help him not to start plucking...
  6. tok monty to the vets and she says she doesn't think he plucking, none of the feathers are chewed and in the usual areas where they start to pluck there is no sign of anything going on. she said to keep an eye on the situation and thinks it is a partial moult. he's got to have more cage time and more sleep:whistle: i tend to keep him up till i go bed(11.30-12ish) as i dont get in until 10pm from 2.30 in the afternoon so like to spend a bit of time with him:S  but she said he might develope attenion deficit desorder unless he learns to have time out... so really, all good news so far, got go back in 2 weeks, i am so relieved that hes not plucking, bless his little fluffy socks:kiss: <br><br>Post edited by: di2008, at: 2008/10/14 11:27

  8. an update on monty he is still losing small feathers at the rate of 1 or 2 a day, and has been for around 3 weeks now. these vary in size from 5-7cm to nexk size and then really tiny head feathers, he also still has the bald patches on his shoulder baldes where he scratches, not seen him pluck any feathers tho. got him booked in with the vet on monday morning just to be sure. he also seems to have gone off his food and has not eaten any fresh veggies or much fruit in the last 3 weeks too and has gone from 407 to 400 in weight in that time too..he is still a happy chappy tho and im misting and rubbing with the aloe vera until i see what the vet recomends..
  9. he is there in the first photo  honest
  10. has anyone seen monty??? oops there you are:laugh: looks like your having fun monty?? 'who me?? nerrr:P  :silly:
  11. oh no think he might be after all:( today he came out of his cage at 8.30am we had breakfast and he played for an hour while i cleaned up the breakast mess and his cage then we played together until 10.30 when he went back into his cage while i went food shopping, he has an avian light plenty of toys and the tv left on. i returned at 1pm it is now 5pm and he has been out since i got home we've have played, showered and he has done very little preening that i have seen, but about 4.20 has had a nap in the conservatory then awoke and started to preen it was then that i noticed 2 larger feathers than before one 5.5cm on the floor beneath him and the other 7cm he was chewing on:blink: he is now sitting on my shoulder while i type preening and i have just given him a scratch and yet another smaller gry feather has fallen out.. is he moulting do you think? at 6months or plucking? what can i do??i do have the heating on will the heat have any affect it's 25degrees at the moment in our house
  12. thanks caroline will do my best soon as he see the cam he flies to it
  13. hi all ive noticed this week some grey feathers when cleaning montys cage( approx 5 this week) they look about the size that they have around the neck area.. when i've brushed his other feathers aside on his neck there is a little bald patch:ohmy: ive never seen him plucking but he does do a lot lf preening and we get loads of the downy feathers about the place.. he has loads of out of cage time and when he is in his cage its usually bed time or time for work. he has lots of toys out of his cage and 8 hanging toys and foot toys in his (87cmx85cmx122cm)cage although we never see him playing in his cage beacause like i said usually bed time or out at work..he does do lots of sctratching tho  i mist him 2-3 times a week and occaionaly with pure aloe vera juice. he is about 6 months old so i thought he was too young to start moulting? any ideas please, could he have this bald patch from Scratching? how do i now if he's plucking if i never see him?
  14. phew!!! thanks guys thought i'd got a demented parrot on my hands:laugh: he/she is very good at flying already and although im scared he will fly into something he hasn't yet.. and it is fun to watch too i just stand and laugh and so gald its normal.. one other thing he does too is chew chew chew!! how can i stop him chewing the things i dont want him to?? like Zips oh my you cant enter a room if u got a zip  he's right on ya and other things in general like our computer chairs.. he bites the leather binding off:unsure: i've tried a firm NO!! and it works sometimes but then others he'll just keep chewing and if i try to take something off him there's just no way he will let go.. should be the anchor man in a tug of war:silly:
  15. i know somone already mentioned hissy fits but would like to mention monty throws these hissy fits at least once a day, and not always with his toys one minute he's sitting there clucking his baby noises, then the noises get louder and louder and they he's off on a mission flying hell for leather around and around the conservatory screeching and squarking he'll land on a perch for a few seconds then off again he does this for 5-10 mins or so then land back on a perch and start to preen, i just sit there and laugh now althought at first i did wonder if it was normal and was a little alarmed, oh and if he happens to land on YOU or a TOY while he's having a mad moment then gawd help ya i was wondering if something had spooked him but he does it daily so this is unlikley, does anyone elses bird do this, is this just a baby thing as he is 6 months will he grow out of it, i hope so im frightened of him flying at that speed into something
  16. i have had a bag of palm nuts in the freezer since having monty in july i have been trying him with these weekly but he wasnt having any..until today :woohoo: now i was wondering how many a day or week he can have ?

  20. rofl{Feel-good-0002006E} dan think i might rough up those branches but i'll give the shot gun a miss, my hubby usually helps doing these things and the temptaion might just be a little too strong lmao;) but thats the wtg rather than vet wrap
  21. okey dokey thanks guys
  22. monty is 6 months old and seems the same, alough he has to go in his cage around 2pm until 5pm as i go to work and he waits for my hubby to get home. i have never seen him playing with any of his cage toys but if take them out and hang the on his java trees then he will play.. and i also find myself feeling guilty when i have to put him in his cage when i have to pop to the shops,so then i rush back and dont do any browsing or window shopping any more. is it normal i wonder to feel this way with a new baby grey or should i just go shopping and take as long as i want:unsure: i know he has food and water and will be fine.... my cage is a large one too dustor (36x28x66)
  23. a couple more photos of monty doing what he does best:P  hope you like
  24. i recently spent £200 on a medium sized java tree for monty, he already has a table top one and he loves it:). the medium and large size are both recomended for greys, but i find some of the branches rather thick and monty cant get a grip on them as the java tree's are a really smooth wood too:blink: ..i was wandering would it be ok to wrap vet wrap around the thicker branches? as im fightened of him falling, and if so which is the best uk web site to get this from many thanks in advance
