i totally agree with siobha9, here in the uk there are no bird shops and everything i have bought for monty has been of the internet. bacause of this owning an exclussivly exotic bird shop would be my dream too, but there's no way i can afford to set one up i wish you all the best in your new venture.

monty has just had a fall in his cage, he's done this a few times im am always out of the room and just hear a flapping of wings then he's at the bottom..he's a grazed above his eye is there anything i should do? he hasn't broken the skin so there is no bleeding and it doesnt seem to be bothering him( just me:( )are they always this clumsy or is it just monty:blink: i have sent a pic to the vet via email and am awaiting her reply

haha!! judy if only:P i will try to get him to change his contact call, i thought this was what he was doing calling us. as for returning him to his cage i do this and leave him for 5 mins or so but he usually starts saying hello and what u doing the minute i put him in:blink: little monkey:P

monty has settled in wonderfully but has started to do this high pitched whistle/screech. he does it when you go out of the room and also when you're talking to him, im sure he thinks that he is calling you or answering you, i dont want him to think this so we have been ignoring him when he does it and even putting him back in his cage, but the moment i put him in his cage he goes into his talking voice saying hello:blink:  so then i take him back out and he screeches again bless him:laugh: has anyone got any suggestions on how to get him to stop screeching and talk back .. he is only 4 1/2 months old tho is he a bit to young to understand yet?

thanks for your replies folkes, monty is only a baby and he's a little darling:blink: he only seems to do this when he's climbing over his cage and after a footing to help him on his perch or swing, his swing has these chains on too but we've now threaded them with rope and now you can't even see the chain, as for his other toy i have aslo re-threaded them with rope so he should be fine:P think there might be a picture on my profile of his swing if you want to look.. thanks again xx

as you know i'v had monty home just a little over 2 weeks now and he is doing absolutly brilliant:) i just thought i'd ask every one about chains, the sort you get on toys like my pic. i have lots of toys with these chains on and they are all ment for african greys bought from 24parrot.com , and not cheap either i might add  but in the 2 weeks ive had monty he has cought his toe in them 3 times and id hate to think what would have happened if i'd not been there to free him, he screamed his little head off and im now so worried at leavning him in his cage with these toys when i go to work that i have coverd them all with rope.i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

thanks for all the replys guys i have been leaving monty for a few mins at a time and he seems fine about it, don't have any other pets so thats not a worry, its the fact he might fly to see where i am, but he is learning and he just seems to fly from play stand to cage if im in the kitchen and stands on top of his cage and trys to look around the corner into the kitchen:laugh: when i get a small stand i can wheel around with me, then i will take him in there too. we have a large conservatory too and he loves it in there but i dont have blinds up so worry about him flying into the glass, although 2 sides are frosted so only have the front thats plain, i have 3 perches with suckers on for him in there and a java tree so he has plenty to land on:) i dont leave him unattended in there tho..

i know we women hate the word 'housework' but it has to be done all the same. my question is when do you have time? owning a grey:blink: i have had monty a week now and because i work 2.30pm until 9.30pm i am determined to let him have as much time out of his cage during his hours with me, then my hubby is in around tea time and he has him out too, do you ladies out there pop from room to room i.e lounge kitchen, dinning room, whilst your bird is out of the cage?i am scared to leave him for 2 seconds:unsure: he is fully flighted, we have no other pets so will it be fine to leave him on his stand if i have to go into the kitchen?i wouldnt go upstairs or outside and leave him unattended. I have been on this site for a while prior to having monty but cant seem to find any threads on this topic. thanks

hi all an update on monty, he is such a cutie and has settled in fantastically:) he is eating more fruits and veggies now than when we first brought him home so i'm please about that, got a wellness check up with the vet in the morning so hope all goes well there, sure it will:unsure: , i have to leave him for the first time this afternoon cus gotta go back to work:( monty loves to fly and is getting better at it every day, i am really surprised how he fly's to me and back to his stand when he wants to, i thought it would take a few weeks to get him to do this, he also steps up on command too. he seems to adore my hubby to (more than me sometimes:angry:  )he is already trying to talk, sounds like 'hello' and the occasional 'what u doing' so all in all he seems at home i think oh and by the way he loves to sleep on his belly, on my belly, this is so cute, hope he doesnt grow out of that as we get lots of cuddles;)

no its not a fixed perch it's a swing and he loves it, he's got a java perch on the outside of his cage, and he's got a forked sandy perch, cholla perch, mineral perch and the normal dowel perch inside his cage, but he love his swing the most upto now
-
yey hope u like them:woohoo:
