    sneezing

My partner has owned a CAG and he keeps telling me its normal, i just wanted to get a second opinion  maybe I'm just being a bit of a neurotic new mom, but i want to be sure when it comes to my baby
  2. I'm South African and would just like to say that unfortunately there are many people just like that stupid woman here! And i have had a good yell at a few of them! It makes me really mad too! People are uneducated when it comes to there pets needs and dont understand the care and love that goes into caring for a grey. Alot (not all) of the people i know are surprised that i even let Shani out of her cage. I am just very grateful that i came across this resource because i was battling to find people who knew enough to be able to answer my questions. Thanks guys!

    sneezing

Sometimes its just one burst sometimes two... and several times a day sounds right. We have had her for about a week and she is around 4 months old. There isn't any discharge around the nostrils and eyes and she is eating and acting like normal. I think I'm going to schedule a vet visit anyway, she hasn't been to the vet before so maybe a general check up isn't a bad idea... Thanks :-)

    sneezing

Hi Guys... I'm hearing some sneezes coming from Shani every now and then. I read the post about the health warnings, and it does say one or two sneezes a day is completely normal. but Shani is sneezing about once every two hours or so? Should i be worried and take her to the vet?
  5. Here are some pics of Shani and her flock... http://shani.homedns.org/
  6. YAY! Second time out the cage was much better! She ran around everywhere exploring! No luck on teaching her to Step Up yet... but still working on it :-)
  7. Thanks guys! She wont step up onto my hand, only a wooden rod in front of her seems to work. But then when i move the rod, even really slowly, she jumps off. I think i need to give her time to trust me before i get too excited and let her out the cage again, she is still very new. Thanks for the link on Step up training, doing all the reading up i can squeeze into the nite :-) Shani is very friendly tonight tho... I was worried she would hold a grudge. She is the most intuitive loving creature, I have always heard about the greys intelligence but witnessing it first hand is quite and experience. Im falling in Love here!
  8. Hi all. Had abit of a scare this afternoon... We brought home the new family member this weekend. A female African Grey. We named her Shani and she is 4 months old. Today i decided to open the cage and let her roam around the bedroom. *Thanks for all the posts on parrot proofing a room* She came out of the cage by herself looking pretty confident and climbed straight to the top of her cage. She sat there for awhile and had a look around. Then after about 10 minutes started totally freaking out trying to get back in. She started flying into things and trying to guide her back into the cage was a nightmare. I think she is upset with me she keeps giving me this look  . I don't want to traumatize her more by taking her out again too soon but i dont want her to have a bad feeling about being out of her cage. Am i being neurotic or is this totally normal? Help please?
  9. Hi there :-) I will post some pics of her soon! Shani is and African name that means Marvelous! Will post more on my baby soon!
  10. Thanks :-) She is giving me so much joy already... Rushed home during my lunch break to spend time with her and she started chatting as i walked through the door. It took awhile but then i realized she kept saying "How much is this Bird?" Guess thats what she heard most in the pet shop. But i nearly fell off my chair laughing:lol:
  11. Hi all. Just came across the site while reading up all i could on my new baby. Just got a female Congo African Grey, named her Shani, walked into the pet store, she said hello and we fell in love. She is still adapting to her new home but is calm and friendly. Trying to learn all i can on the best ways to get her settled in her new environment and eventually adapted to being out of her cage. So glad i found you guys Lupa
